What a great pleasure it is to welcome you to our campus today. We are so very glad to have you here with us in beef country. I'm sure you are all very well aware beef is big business in our powerhouse agricultural state. And as a connoisseur of the product, let me tell you - it's very good beef!

LEAD Presentation

Thank you for inviting us to share with you some information about the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources, and what we are doing for Nebraska. As a stakeholder in Nebraska's land-grant university, you and every other Nebraskan have every right at any time to ask us what we've done for you and your neighbors lately. We welcome the question. There is so much excellent work being accomplished on this campus and throughout Nebraska that I am delighted each time I have the opportunity to talk about it. The biggest problem I find is stopping - there's always so much more to say - than there is time to say it in!

Ribbon Cutting at Kimmel Education and Research Center

It is marvelously fitting that we gather here in Nebraska City on this lovely fall afternoon to officially celebrate this wonderful new center. Fall is a traditional-time of harvest in Nebraska, and for many of us there is a deep and abiding satisfaction in bringing a good crop to fruition. Apple harvests at Nebraska City orchards long have brought visitors here each year for fresh fruit and cider.

IANR Recognition Luncheon, Dinsdale Family Faculty Awards, and IANR Team Award Presentations

What a pleasure it is to come together to recognize and celebrate Outstanding work of members of our IANR community. Today we celebrate excellence as we present two Dinsdale Family Faculty Awards, as well as our IANR Team Award.

Distinguished Fellowship Awards Luncheon

What a terrific day this is! First, we have the pleasure of recognizing those of you who are receiving fellowship awards, and that always is a treat. Second, we are so very pleased today to initiate the Darrell Nelson Excellence in Graduate Student Advising Award, named in honor of our recently retired Agricultural Research Division dean and director. Yes, this is a very good day!

Barta Brothers Building Dedication

What a treat it is to be here today to dedicate this new building at the Barta Brothers Ranch. First off, it provides a wonderful opportunity to gather here in the heart of north central Nebraska's Sandhills.

ARDC 10th Anniversary/Building Renaming

Thank you for being with us today as we celebrate both the 10th anniversary of this great building and its new name.

Ag at the Crossroads

Good afternoon. It is always a pleasure to take part in Ag at the Crossroads. I am particularly pleased today to be asked to talk about one of our Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources' strategic plan priorities and that is water. One of our four strategic plan priority goals is to, "Develop an integrated, multi-disciplinary, multi-functional water resources program addressing Nebraska's needs that provides statewide, national, and international leadership in water quality and quantity management in the next decade."

Presentation for Neal E. Harlan

Our first Public Service To Agriculture Award this evening will be presented posthumously to Neal E. Harlan who gained recognition throughout Nebraska and the Midwest in grain merchandising combined with a lifelong interest in the progress of agriculture through education and research.

Folks, it's a great treat to have this opportunity to share with you how we in the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources are at work for Nebraska. I want to talk with you a little bit today about that work, our land-grant university history, and where our vision for Nebraska's future is taking us.

Omtvedt Innovation Award Presented to Allen G. Blezek

It is such a pleasure to honor innovation and accomplishment in the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources today through this 2007 Omtvedt Innovation Award. This award is made possible because of the generosity of Leone and the late Neal Harlan, great friends of the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources. The Harlans had the vision and the foresight to realize the importance of recognizing and supporting outstanding and innovative work in the Institute. They honored Irv Omtvedt on his retirement as Vice Chancellor of the Institute with a generous gift of funds to support the Omtvedt Innovation Awards. These awards recognize areas of strength and promise within the Institute, as well as innovative research and programming by our faculty, staff, and students.
