Thank you for inviting me to be here today. I truly appreciate this opportunity to visit with you. I've been asked to tell you about some of the recent successes of the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources, to talk about opportunities for the Institute in Nebraska's future, and to talk, also, about extension's role in that.

2006 East Campus Arbor Day Celebration

It cannot be lost on those of us present here today that Nebraska, the land of tall skies and wide prairies, where early settlers saw grass roll to the horizon broken only by the call of the lark, is the home of Arbor Day. Nebraska is, indeed, the tree planter state.

Those of us in the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources at your land-grant university view ourselves as partners with Nebraska. Taking the resources of this great university to the citizens of our state is a mission we take very, very seriously. We work hard to apply the university's resources in a diverse number of ways to benefit Nebraska. Today it is my very great pleasure to have this opportunity to provide a brief report to you, our partners, on some of the ways we are returning your investment in us to benefit our state.

Nebraska Hall of Agricultural Achievement Dinner

It is my pleasure to be with you tonight celebrating the accomplishments of these wonderful and worthy new additions to the Nebraska Hall of Agricultural Achievement. I'm delighted to have this opportunity to help recognize these individuals so deserving of their honors. What a pleasure to say, “well done and thank you” to people who make such significant contributions to the world, who live their lives meaningfully in the way they choose to put their talents and energies to work.

Omaha Agri-Business Club Leadership Award Presentation

It is a real pleasure to present the 2006 Omaha Agri- Business Club Leadership Award this evening during National Agriculture Week. I commend the Omaha Agri-Business Club for establishing this fine award. We always need to celebrate the accomplishments of individuals whose leadership efforts contribute to our agricultural industry which is the backbone of Nebraska and our nation.

48th Annual Nebraska Agri-Business Association Meeting

Thank you so very much for this opportunity to speak today at this 48th Annual Nebraska Agri-Business Association meeting. Dr. Kyle Hoagland, Water Center Director in the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and I are particularly pleased to be asked to talk with you today about water, a key concern in our state and in our world. New water regulations affecting Nebraska's agricultural producers, numerous legislative discussions, and stories of neighbors contesting water use by neighbors have been in the news and on our minds. We all know that will continue.

ABN Summer Meeting

It is such a pleasure to have you on campus with us today. While we couldn't do anything to turn the heat down outside, at least we've had some hot topics to go right along with it! I sincerely hope you've enjoyed the wide variety of information we've shared with you today. It is our pleasure to have this opportunity to host you here on campus, and I thank everyone who has been part of presenting and putting this day's program together. I also thank each of you, and every member of ABN, for all you do in support of Nebraska agriculture, the Institute, and the university.

Good morning. It's my very great pleasure to welcome you to this third annual mini-symposium in Redox Biology.

Wagonhammer Dedication

What a tremendous pleasure it is to be here today to dedicate our new Wagonhammer Education Center and the Ray (Boo-ee) Bohy Conference. Room it contains. I look at this building and I think of all the ways it can and will enhance education, learning, and research conducted here at the Gudmundsen Sandhills Laboratory. That thought delights me, both on behalf of the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the work we do here, and on behalf of the Nebraskans and others who come here to learn, and to grow their knowledge and skills for the future.
