Książka stanowi plon 2-letniego projektu badawczego zrealizowanego na Wydziale Neofilologii UAM przez zespół złożony z psychologa i filologów aż czterech specjalności językowych. Prezentuje zagadnienia ogólne (m.in. specyfilę komunikacji ustnej, kształtowanie postaw proautonomicznych i osobistej kompetencji komunikacyjnej) oraz sprawozdania z badań (dotyczące m.in. kształtowania samooceny, wrażliwości językowej, umiejętności argumentacyjnych i postawy podmiotowej).

Palaeontology of the Middle Turonian limestones of the Nysa Kłodzka Graben (Sudetes, SW Poland): biostratigraphical and palaeogeographical implications

The ammonites Lewesiceras peramplum Mantell and ?Lewesiceras sp. are reported from the Upper Cretaceous in the Nysa Kłodzka Graben; they date from the Middle Turonian and ?Coniacian, respectively. The Middle Turonian limestones of the Stara Bystrzyca quarry contain an abundant assemblage of inoceramids (Inoceramus cuvieri Sowerby and I. lamarcki Parkinson) and other bivalves, including oysters, as well as brachiopods and trace fossils. Micropalaeontological data show the presence of foraminifers and siliceous sponge spiculae, bryozoans, ostracods and fragments of bivalves and gastropods. The Middle Turonian calcareous deposits belongs to the upper part of the Inoceramus lamarcki Zone (late Middle Turonian) and were deposited on a shallow, subtidal offshore shelf. They overlie the Middle Turonian Bystrzyca and Długopole Sandstones, which represent foreshore-shoreface delta deposits. The fossil assemblage suggests a moderate- to low-energy, normal-salinity environment with occasionally an oxygen deficit.

The article focuses on teaching and learning conversational actions in English as a FL in direct instruction based on the guided discovery observation of discourse models such as transcribed video discus-sions and conversations. The aim of the task is to develop students’ communicative awareness, which in turn allows them to find in dis-course those communicative actions which suit their communicative style and contribute to the development of their personal communicative competence. Discourse observation tasks are accompanied by project tasks such as classroom role plays and discussions and interviews with a foreigner in which students are expected to produce the observed communicative actions. The paper is based on a case study of one student’s performance in the selected two types of tasks, discourse observation tasks and an interview with a foreigner.

Teaching Competences and their Development Via Video-Recording

The article deals with use of case studies for professional preparation of teachers to be. One of the suitable ways to develop professional teaching competences is to apply the method of a case study. A case study means a complex and creative solution for a given teaching situation in simulated teaching conditions. It is based on interactive and situational education and decision taking. A case study improves not only professional and teaching competences for becoming teachers – it also fulfi ls the task to develop at students their auto-evaluating and auto-refl exing skills. To increase professional competences it is mandatory to do a complex analysis of the video-record for the implemented study. A complex analysis is a subject of the research project of a student grant agency at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen.

O interdyscyplinarności komparatystyki

For the past fifty years, the interest in issues beyond pure philology has been a watchword in comparative literary studies. Comparative studies, which by default employ a variety of methods, run the major risk – as the experience of American comparative literature shows – of descending into dangerous ‘everythingism’ or losing its identity. However, it performs well when literature remains one of the segments of comparison. In such instances, it proves efficacious in exploring the ‘correspondences of arts’, the problems of identity and multiculturalism as well as contributes to the research into the transfer of ideas. Hence, it delves into phenomena which exist on the borderlines of literature, fine arts and other fields of humanities, employing strategies of interpretation which are typical for each of those fields. This means that in the process there emerges a “borderline methodology”, whose distinctive feature is heterogeneity of conducting research. This, in turn, requires the scholar to be both ingenious and creative while selecting topics as well as to possess competence in literary studies and the related field.

Herod Wielki i „nowa” Jerozolima

Summary: Herod the Great (73-4 B.C.E.) was a Roman client king of the small Jewish state Judaea in the last three decades before the common era. An essential aspect of Herod's reign was his role as a builder. Remarkably innovative, he created an astonishing record of architectural achievement, not only in Judaea but also throughout Greece and the Roman East. Herod’s own inclinations caused him to engage in a building program that paralleled that of his patron, Augustus. The most famous and ambitious project was the expansion of Jerusalem and rebuilding of the Second Temple. Josephus Flavius, a 1st-century Jewish historian, in his descriptions of the visual structure of Jerusalem delivers the picture of the Jewish society in the latter Second Temple Judaea, who were fundamentally antagonistic toward images. For Josephus, Roman iconography, such as Herod’s eagle from the Jerusalem Temple, represents not only political domination but also an unambiguous religious abomination. Visual conservatism in the public realm finds important verification in the excavated remains of Jerusalem’s Temple Mount and the Herodian Quarter (Upper City). Geometric patterns and forms predominate on the floor mosaic, stone furniture, in architectural detail and funerary remains. No human imagery is present in the Jewish context. However, Herodian structures in Jerusalem reflect the architectural and visual vocabulary of their time which contains popular elements of Roman domination in the ancient world.

Przywództwo Niemiec i Francji w Unii Europejskiej w XXI w. Problemy i wyzwania

Autor w pracy stawia tezę, że „francusko-niemiecki motor” odegrał pozytywną rolę w procesie integracji europejskiej w XX w. Dzięki bliskiej współpracy francusko-niemieckiej możliwa była realizacja unii walutowo-gospodarczej, Wspólna Polityka Zagraniczna i Bezpieczeństwa oraz stworzenie w UE „obszaru wolności, bezpieczeństwa i sprawiedliwości”. W XXI w. trudna sytuacja gospodarcza Francji i napięcia społeczne spowodowały spadek jej znaczenia w Unii Europejskiej. Kryzys finansowy strefy euro oraz problem uchodźców wykreowały Niemcy na samotnego lidera w Unii Europejskiej. Jednakże współpraca francusko-niemiecka nie załamała się, gdyż oba państwa wzajemnie się potrzebują i zapewniają równowagę w Europie. Zdaniem wielu ekspertów, ze względu na ogólne nastroje w Europie, w Berlinie i Paryżu brakuje nowych idei ukazujących perspektywy rozwojowe Unii Europejskiej na najbliższe lata.
