It is well known that control systems are the core of electronic differential systems (EDSs) in electric vehicles (EVs)/hybrid HEVs (HEVs). However, conventional closed-loop control architectures do not completely match the needed ability to reject noises/disturbances, especially regarding the input acceleration signal incoming from the driver's commands, which makes the EDS (in this case) ineffective. Due to this, in this paper, a novel EDS control architecture is proposed to offer a new approach for the traction system that can be used with a great variety of controllers (e. g., classic, artificial intelligence (AI)-based, and modern/robust theory). In addition to this, a modified proportional-integral derivative (PID) controller, an AI-based neuro-fuzzy controller, and a robust optimal H-infinity controller were designed and evaluated to observe and evaluate the versatility of the novel architecture. Kinematic and dynamic models of the vehicle are briefly introduced. Then, simulated and experimental results were presented and discussed. A Hybrid Electric Vehicle in Low Scale (HELVIS)-Sim simulation environment was employed to the preliminary analysis of the proposed EDS architecture. Later, the EDS itself was embedded in a dSpace 1103 high-performance interface board so that real-time control of the rear wheels of the HELVIS platform was successfully achieved.

The proportion of Plasmodium vivax-infected subjects that carry mature gametocytes, and thus are potentially infectious, remains poorly characterized in endemic settings. Here, we describe a quantitative reverse transcriptase (RI) real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) that targets transcripts of the mature gametocyte-specific pvs25 gene. We found mature gametocytes in 42 of 44 (95.4%) P. vivax infections diagnosed during an ongoing cohort study in northwestern Brazil. SYBR green qRT-PCR was more sensitive than a conventional RT-PCR that targets the same gene. Molecular detection of gametocytes failed, however, when dried bloodspots were used for RNA isolation and complementary DNA synthesis. Estimating the number of pvs25 gene transcripts allowed for examining the potential infectiousness of gametocyte carriers in a quantitative way. We found that most (61.9%) gametocyte carriers were either asymptomatic or had subpatent parasitemias and would have been missed by routine malaria control strategies. However, potentially undiagnosed gametocyte carriers usually had low-density infections and contributed a small fraction (up to 4%) to the overall gametocyte burden in the community. Further studies are required to determine the relative contribution to malaria transmission of long-lasting but low-density gametocytemias in asymptomatic carriers that are left undiagnosed and untreated. The main objective of this work is to present an efficient method for phasor estimation based on a compact Genetic Algorithm (cGA) implemented in Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). To validate the proposed method, an Electrical Power System (EPS) simulated by the Alternative Transients Program (ATP) provides data to be used by the cGA. This data is as close as possible to the actual data provided by the EPS. Real life situations such as islanding, sudden load increase and permanent faults were considered. The implementation aims to take advantage of the inherent parallelism in Genetic Algorithms in a compact and optimized way, making them an attractive option for practical applications in real-time estimations concerning Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs).
