Annotated almanac, 1748

Almanac containing calendar pages with sporadic annotations of unidentified measurements and interleaved pages with short handwritten entries about Winthrop's daily activities, and astronomical and meteorological observations. The entries include personal notes about travel, his wife's travels, the weather, vegetable planting, the hiring and dismissal of servants, and the birth of Winthrop's son Adam (November 1748).

Annotated almanac, 1752

Almanac containing calendar pages with sporadic annotations of unidentified measurements and interleaved pages with short handwritten entries about Winthrop's daily activities, and astronomical and meteorological observations. The entries include personal notes about travel, the weather, vegetable planting, and the birth of Winthrop's fourth son James (March 28) and taking him to wet nurses (March 31 and August 31). Throughout the volume there are entries about the smallpox epidemic including statistics about the disease's affect in Boston and family inoculations. At the end of the volume, there is a bill of mortality for Charlestown for 1752 with a chart of deaths according to age ranges.

Annotated almanac, 1753

Almanac containing calendar pages with sporadic annotations of measurements and small one-word notes. The only handwritten entries are on the December page: "Buried in Boston 418 W 63 B in all 481 / Baptized 396," and a note on the April page of the birth of Winthrop's fifth son Adam on April 19th.

[Copy of a letter from Mehetabel Preble to her son Stephen Sewall], 1768 January 23

Handwritten copy of a January 23, 1768 letter from Mehetabel Preble to her son Stephen Sewall transcribed by Sewall. The bottom of the page is cut off and some text is missing. In the letter, Preble mentions Sewall's news of the birth of her granddaughter, the death of one of her sons, and discusses her health and approaching death, and the absence of God's "divine light." The item includes the note: "NB. The above letter was rec'd 18th March, 1768. My mother died the 4th day of the same month," and an extract from a February 29, 1768 letter from "Brother Crosby" regarding Preble's illness and anticipation of death.

Rood, Sarah, autographed letter signed to John Winthrop, 1 side (2 pages), undated

Correspondence requesting Winthrop's advice for treating a condition Rood describes as a "falling out of [the] wome" (prolapsed uterus) that occurred after her first childbirth and has worsened with the birth of her second child.
