This layer is a georeferenced raster image of the historic paper map entitled: Plan of Boston comprising a part of Charlestown and Cambridge, published by George G. Smith, engraver, 1846. Scale [ca. 1:7,310]. Covers Boston proper (Shawmut Peninsula and Boston Neck) with small portions of Charlestown, Cambridge, and South Boston. The image inside the map neatline is georeferenced to the surface of the earth and fit to the Massachusetts State Plane Coordinate System, Mainland Zone (in Feet) (Fipszone 2001). All map collar and inset information is also available as part of the raster image, including any inset maps, profiles, statistical tables, directories, text, illustrations, or other information associated with the principal map. This map shows features such as roads, railroads, wharves, drainage, churches, schools, selected public buildings, parks, cemeteries, city ward boundaries and more. Relief is shown by hachures. Includes insets: Plan of South Boston from a drawing by S.P. Fuller. Scale [ca. 1:17,600] -- Plan of East Boston from actual survey by R.H. Eddy. Scale [ca. 1:17,000]. Includes also indexes to points of interest and streets. This layer is part of a selection of digitally scanned and georeferenced historic maps of Massachusetts from the Harvard Map Collection. These maps typically portray both natural and manmade features. The selection represents a range of regions, originators, ground condition dates (1755-1922), scales, and purposes. The digitized selection includes maps of: the state, Massachusetts counties, town surveys, coastal features, real property, parks, cemeteries, railroads, roads, public works projects, etc.

Catharine Waugh McCullouch papers in the Mary Earhart Dillon collection, 1869-1945

Collection primarily documents McCulloch's research on women's legal status, and her work with the Illinois Equal Suffrage Association, the National American Woman Suffrage Association, and the League of Women Voters. There is also documentation of women in the legal profession, of McCulloch's friendships with the other women suffragists and lawyers, and some biographical material. The papers contain little information about her family or social life.

Quarter bill book for the Classes of 1757-1773, 1757-1769

Parchment hardcover bound volume containing quarter bill tallies for the Classes of 1757-1773 arranged first by seniority, and later alphabetically, and covering the bill period ending on March 11, 1759 through the period ending December 8, 1769. Billing categories are occasionally added or removed in the volume, including a Hebrew Grammar category in 1764, and one for the Hancock Professor in 1765. After each quarter's tallies, an additional section provides the totals for all students in each of the categories, and deductions for building repairs.

Annotated almanac, 1769

Almanac with one laid-in folded leaf and annotations made by John and Hannah Winthrop. The calendar pages are minimally annotated with a note about household activities such as bringing the horse to pasture. The laid-in leaf contains entries on firing the household chimneys, baptisms and deaths in the community, and a bill of mortality for 1769 in John Winthrop's hand.

A Translation of the oration deliver'd at the funeral of Rev'd. President Holyoke, by Mr. Sewall, Professor of ye Languages, at Cambridge, 1769 June 25

This small 11-page pamphlet contains a handwritten English translation of Professor Sewall's funeral oration for President Edward Holyoke on June 25, 1769. The translation begins, "Whereas the Summer advancing when we survey the Earth mantled in green..." The copy includes a small number of edits.

Lists of books which came to the Library on May 10, 1769

Lists purchased books which arrived in two trunks, as well as books sent by Dr. Winthrop. All the books listed were entered into the catalog in October 1770.
