This layer is a georeferenced raster image of the historic paper map entitled: Plan géometral de la ville et de la montagne de Gibraltar : nouvellement corrigé d'après les originaux anglais, par L. Denis, géographe et auteur du Conducteur Francais, 1781. It was published by chès Basset in [1781]. Scale [ca. 1:1,111]. Covers Gibraltar. Map in French. The image inside the map neatline is georeferenced to the surface of the earth and fit to the European Datum 1950, UTM Zone 30N coordinate system. All map collar and inset information is also available as part of the raster image, including any inset maps, profiles, statistical tables, directories, text, illustrations, index maps, legends, or other information associated with the principal map. This map shows features such as roads, drainage, ship routes of attack, built-up areas and selected buildings, fortification and defenses, ship lines of fire, and other places of military interest for the Siege of Gibraltar, 1779-1783, ground cover, and more. Relief is shown by hachures; depths shown by soundings. Includes index. This layer is part of a selection of digitally scanned and georeferenced historic maps from The Harvard Map Collection as part of the Imaging the Urban Environment project. Maps selected for this project represent major urban areas and cities of the world, at various time periods. These maps typically portray both natural and manmade features at a large scale. The selection represents a range of regions, originators, ground condition dates, scales, and purposes.

Handwritten mathematical notebook of Ephraim Eliot, kept in 1779 while he was a student at Harvard College. The volume contains rules, definitions, problems, drawings, and tables on arithmetic, geometry, trigonometry, surveying, calculating distances, and dialing. Some of the exercises are illustrated by unrefined hand-drawn diagrams, as well as a sketch of a mariner’s compass. The sections on navigation, mensuration of heights, and spherical geometry are titled but not completed. The ink of the later text, beginning with Trigonometry, is faded.

Small printed daily pocket journal repurposed by both John and Hannah between 1766 and 1779 to record household accounts including livestock pasturing, income received, and payments to servants, merchants, and tradesmen for food, livestock, clothing, linen, etc. Many of the pages are unused. The January-April pages contain account records from 1766-1779, one page in June has a few accounting notes from September 1779, the rest of June-November is empty, and three books are listed on a November page. The last three calendar pages contain lists of books in Hannah's handwriting dated 1773 and August 1768.

Almanac containing interleaved pages and sporadic annotations of household activities on the calendar pages by John Winthrop. The front inside cover has some accounting entries. The interleaved pages contain entries with almost daily notes of social engagements and travel for January through May 1, a list of the "Agents in Middlsesx 1779 & Comrs," and a list of citations made in January-April in Winthrop's capacity as a Judge of Probate. There is also a laid-in leaf with some accounting figures.

The folded interleaved leaf contains entries about household activities in Hannah Winthrop's hand, notes of burials and baptisms for Cambridge in 1779 begun in John Winthrop's hand and finished by Hannah Winthrop. Hannah's entries include, "died May the 3 Honorable Dr Winthrop 6h 1/2 Languishment Buried the 8."
