This folder contains four documents with undated notes about the College's holdings of the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London.

Vote related to the wearing of hats in Chapel, 1801 July 17

Handwritten copy of a vote of the Harvard Faculty on one leaf prohibiting the wearing of hats in Chapel. The document is signed by President Joseph Willard, and also includes a note that Joseph Emerson was selected as a Tutor.

Measures of hall and chapel, [ca. 1800]

This note, likely in the hand of President Willard, directs Mr. [Josiah] Moore and Mr. [John] Walton measure the length, width, and height of the chapel, hall, and library in Harvard Hall. Includes each room's measurements.

Copy of William Watson's account for painting and glazing of Holden Chapel, September 1801

Contains an itemized list of costs for painting and glazing tasks to be completed and supplies needed by Watson for Holden Chapel. Tasks include painting Doctor Warren's room twice, painting window sashes and shutters, transporting glass from Boston, and setting each window pane. Supplies needed include oil, white lead, and putty.

Pen and ink drawings with measurements of the interior ground plot, arch, and side of Holden Chapel.

Floor plan and notes for proposed building with chapel and hall, [ca. 1799]

Possibly drawn and written in the hand of President Joseph Willard. The proposed building would house a chapel, halls, chambers for scholars, and was to be built on the site of the first Stoughton Hall which was torn down in 1781.

Calculations of stone work in new dining halls and chapel, [ca. 1814]

Estimate for $10,189.62 to complete stone work in University Hall. This includes the front basement, end basement, window stools, door ports, and stairs.

Sc[h]edule of work for finishing inside of dining halls & chapel, [ca. 1814]

Detailed list of twelve interior projects that need to be completed in University Hall. The list includes hinging doors, completing architraves, and installing windows. Appears to be simplified version of Memoranda of contract with carpenters, Moore, and others, in Box 1, Folder 42.

Proposal for remaking the chapel in University Hall, 1835

Pen and ink drawing of proposed alterations to the chapel in University Hall which were completed in August 1835. Includes measurements to scale.

Method of preventing disorders at chapel, church &c., 1797 November 25

Three-page draft of a report presented to the "executive government" of Harvard College by the "committee appointed to prepare a plan for the suppression of certain disorders during the public services in the chapel & in the meeting house."

Address to the students read in the Chapel, 1805 April 23

2-page handwritten copy of an address by Eliphalet Pearson relaying the votes of the Faculty recommending that students avoid "mixing with the inhabitants of the town" on election days following the students disruption of town election meetings on April 1, 1805.

[Letter from Thomas Clap to Royal Tyler,] 1764 August 1

One-page handwritten letter from Thomas Clap to Royal Tyler acknowledging his return of "Mr. Sewals Hebrew Grammar" to Tyler and noting that the work is "best especially for beginners." The letter is torn into three pieces and some text is missing. A portion of the missing text can be found in Box 4.

The royal charter of King Charles the Second to William Penn, esquire, proprietor of the province of Pennsylvania, 1701

A copy of the charter giving William Penn land in the colonies. Also contains Penn's "Frame of the Government of Pennsylvania in America", the laws he established, and the charter of the city of Philadelphia.
