Catharine Waugh McCullouch papers in the Mary Earhart Dillon collection, 1869-1945

Collection primarily documents McCulloch's research on women's legal status, and her work with the Illinois Equal Suffrage Association, the National American Woman Suffrage Association, and the League of Women Voters. There is also documentation of women in the legal profession, of McCulloch's friendships with the other women suffragists and lawyers, and some biographical material. The papers contain little information about her family or social life.

Note from William Croswell to President Kirkland and the Corporation of Harvard College, 1817-1821

This folder contains six documents: three drafts of a brief March 10, 1817, note to Harvard President John Kirkland, with two of the drafts followed by an October 25, 1819, note to the Harvard College Corporation concerning Croswell's work on Harvard's Library Catalogue.

Letter from Steward Caleb Gannett to President and Fellows, [1780]

This letter from Gannett, written shortly after he assumed the duties of the Steward, contains questions to the President and Fellows regarding his duties as Steward. He also discusses the impact of the post-Revolutionary War economic situation, describing the rapid rise of prices of goods.

Draft of President Leverett's Harvard College charter, [ca. 1723]

Two folio-sized leaves and two octavo-sized leaves containing a handwritten draft of a Harvard Charter in President Leverett's hand. Following a salutation to King George, the text begins, "Whereas there hath been for more than seventy years past in the Town of Cambridge..."

Council's Proceedings on the petition of the President and Fellows of Harvard College, 1743 March 7

Handwritten copy, signed by Josiah Willard, of a March 7, 1743 Council vote ordering further work by a Committee considering a petition by the Harvard Corporation related to ferry fares, and a half-page response by Francis Foxcroft suggesting that the Committee recommend certain fare rates and ferryman percentages.

Letter from Levi Hedge to President John Kirkland, [ca. 1823]

Levi Hedge, Professor of Logic and Metaphysics, wrote Harvard president John Kirkland requesting renovations to the house which he occupied. Hedge's house was situated on North Street (now Massachusetts Avenue). He notes that the kitchen has a leaky sink, loose and unusable shelves, and is insufficiently insulated.

One slip of paper containing a handwritten question in the hand of President Joseph Willard. The question is on the verso of a note dated March 2, 1790.

Annotated almanac, 1755

Almanac containing calendar pages with sporadic annotations of measurements and small one-word notes. Winthrop often corrected the almanac's printed chart for the rising and setting of the sun. There are a few handwritten entries including a note in Latin about Winthrop's mother. An unattached sheet of paper folded into the almanac has burial and baptism statistics for Boston and Charleston, and entries about General Braddock's defeat by the French (July 9), a battle between General Johnson and the French and Indians under the Baron de Dieskau (September 8), the execution of two slaves for murdering their master (September 18), and a note that President Holyoke preached the Dudleian lecture (November 25).
