[Committee report], 1780 May 16

One-page report signed by Hollis Professor Samuel Williams and Tutor William Bentley examining the complaint made by "Kendall" (probably Samuel Kendal, a member of the Class of 1782) of a "great abuse he received after Commons" on May 9, 1780 from Fortescue Vernon (Class of 1780) and Edward Sohier (Class of 1781). The report finds Vernon guilty and recommends a light punishment. Williams and Bentley then propose six regulations intended to keep order after breakfast and dinner service in the dining hall.

Copy of resolves of the Overseers relative to the Disturbances at the Coll. ye beginning of Apr 1768, 1768 April 12

Handwritten copy of six resolves and one vote passed by the Board of Overseers regarding the behavior of undergraduates, copied by Andrew Eliot, secretary to the Board of Overseers, and entered into the College Book No. 7, page 177. The resolves reflected on the insubordination of Harvard students, declared the support of the Overseers towards the efforts of the College government to maintain order, and proclaimed the expulsion of guilty students a "just punishment." The Overseers voted to have the President read the resolves in the College Chapel, which was done by President Edward Holyoke on April 12, 1768.

Brief handwritten note to Loammi Baldwin from his son requesting a written excuse to be sent to the Harvard President for his absence on election day.

Absence notes, 1797-1800

Five short handwritten notes from Loammi Baldwin to the Harvard Faculty excusing his son for absences from College. The excuses were written on September 9, 1797 for sickness; September 23, 1797; February 10, 1798; February 19, 1799 due to the illness of Mrs. Baldwin; and March 23, 1800 due to weather.

[Letter from Thomas Clap to Royal Tyler,] 1764 August 1

One-page handwritten letter from Thomas Clap to Royal Tyler acknowledging his return of "Mr. Sewals Hebrew Grammar" to Tyler and noting that the work is "best especially for beginners." The letter is torn into three pieces and some text is missing. A portion of the missing text can be found in Box 4.

Professor Sewall's Lectures on the Hebrew and Oriental Languages, Vol. 2d, 1767-1780

This volume contains lectures delivered by Sewall to Harvard students. The first lecture in the volume, Lecture XV, was read on March 9, 1767; October 8, 1770, August 22, 1774, and December 13, 1778. The last lecture in the volume, Lecture XXVII, was read on June 13, 1768; May 4, 1772; July 29, 1776; and June 5, 1780.
