One leaf containing a handwritten draft of queries about the salaries of Professors later incorporated into a 1794 memorial signed by Professors Pearson, Webber, and Tappan and presented to a joint Board of Overseers and Corporation Committee appointed to inquire into the state of the College Treasury.

Butler's accounts for the Classes of 1789-1794, 1789-1799

The marbled-paper-covered book contains two sections written by Butlers Thomas Adams and Samuel Shapleigh: a two column debit and credit entry section for students in the Classes of 1789 through 1794, with additions made through June 1791, and at the end of the volume a two page "Account of monies paid out as Atty. to T. Adams" for 1791 with lenders' names and amounts.

[Power of attorney between Stephen Sewall and Thomas Wigglesworth], 1794 August 21

This one-page printed form appoints Thomas Wigglesworth as the "true and lawful Attorney" for Stephen Sewall. The form is notarized by Samuel Barrett and witnessed by Barrett and his daughter Peggy Barrett.

II. Butler bills, 1788-1794

The Butler's bills are printed quarterly bill forms that the Butler completed with his name, the name of the student, the specific quarter and its ending date, and the total owed for "permitted articles." In some years the form included a space to input the amount for "Wines and other permitted Liquors."
