Annotated almanac, 1756

Almanac containing two laid-in leaves and calendar pages with sporadic annotations of measurements, on the May page an annotation listing towns where Winthrop lodged. The first laid-in leaf has a short entry with structural measurements relating to an inclination of Old Stoughton College (January 21), and the second laid-in leaf has entries including notes on deaths in the community, the weather, an outbreak of dysentery (September 4), and the raising of a new Cambridge meeting house (November 12-17).

[Letter presenting Judge Lowell's Eulogy of Governor Bowdoin, 1791]

One leaf containing an unsigned draft of a letter presenting John Lowell's published eulogy of Governor James Bowdoin to the recipient by the order of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. The eulogy had been delivered by John Lowell on January 26, 1791.

A Book of Accounts beginning Feb. 26 1791, 1791-1799

The marbled-hardcover book contains three sections: a two column debit and credit entry section for students and tutors, a list of "the Bills of the Senior Class calculated" for 1793 and 1794, and at the end of the volume a personal accounting of expenses from February 1797 through January 1799 kept by Shapleigh during the time he was Harvard's Librarian, for services including mending, wood hauling, and "To Miss Morie for cleaning windows & washing sheets," as well as purchases such as books, coffee, and theater tickets.

Bills Dr. to Tho. Adams late Coll. Butler, 1791

The paper-covered book contains a two column debit and credit entry section for students created by Thomas Adams and updated by Samuel Shapleigh for the Classes of 1792 through 1794. The final page includes the note, "The above is the Balance due to me as Butler of College- Cambridge Novr 15, 1791--Tho Adams." The book includes annotations made at a later date noting students not found in other College records. The cover of the book features an engraving of a young woman in profile.
