This brief note from Samuel Gerrish to library keeper Joshua Gee is dated only as "Thursday Evening" and refers to payment issues related to the printing of the Library Catalogue. Gee refers to the note in his December 24, 1723, letter to President Leverett (UAIII 50.27.14 Box 1, Folder 7).

Receipt signed by Joshua Gee, [1723/4] January 14

This receipt acknowledges payment from the Harvard College Treasurer Edward Hutchinson for Joshua Gee's service in preparing the Library Catalogue. The receipt is dated as January 14, 1723, but presumably follows the December 25, 1723, vote of the Harvard Corporation to pay Gee for his services and refers to January 14, 1723/4.

Letter from Daniel White to his preceptor at Atkinson Academy, July 13, 1793

The name of Jabez Kimball is written on the verso, though it seems unlikely that he was White's preceptor, as they graduated in the same class from Harvard College.

IV. Reminiscences of life as an undergraduate at Harvard College from 1793 to 1797, 1837

This memoir, written by White in 1837, describes his undergraduate years at Harvard from 1793 to 1797. It contains lengthy passages about a wide variety of experiences White had as a student. He wrote about his classes and professors, student life, American politics, politics in the world at large, food, his classmates, and many other topics. The memoir includes passages from a diary that White seems to have kept as a student, as well as reflections clearly written later in life. White wrote this memoir in 15 separate notebooks, each embossed with "Platner & Porter, Congress" in the upper left-hand corner. Platner & Porter was the manufacturer of the notebooks.

Ledger for the Classes of 1723-1731, 1719-1755

The volume, bound in a modern leather binding, contains accounts for the Classes of 1723-1731. Leaves 108-118 list the Steward's account with Harvard College arranged monthly for the years 1721-1729.

Parchment hardcover bound volume arranged into two parts: Quarter bill book and the Steward's ledger. The Quarter bill book contains quarter bill tallies for the Classes of 1689-1723 arranged by seniority, and covers the bill period ending on October 21, 1687 through the period ending March 11, 1720.

IV. Promissory Notes, 1790-1793

This series consists of handwritten slips written by the borrower with the promise of repayment with interest to a specified lender. Some of the notes reflect loans made to the Butler by members of the community, and others are promissory notes to Adams signed by Harvard students.
