A prayer to Christ, undated

Short handwritten poem beginning, "Suffer me not Oh Christ to be..."

Annotated almanac, 1775

Almanac containing one laid-in leaf and interleaved pages with entries in John Winthrop's hand. The interleaved pages include entries include brief, nearly daily notes of social engagements and travel by Winthrop during the year the Winthrops were forced to evacuate Cambridge because of the Revolutionary War. The short entries include notes of the Battle of Concord (April 19), a fire in Boston (May 17), the Battle of Bunker Hill (June 17), the choosing of councillors at Concord (June 21), and the notable entries "wth Genl Washington (August 12)" and "All day packg up Apparatus & Library" (June 16). The laid-in leaf contains an account of household purchases made while the Winthrops were living with Nehemiah Abbot Andover from May to June and later in Concord. The laid-in leaf is written on a note beginning "Mr. Winthrop presents his most respectful compliments to the Hon'ble Col. Hancock and to the rest of the Gentlemen Select-men..."

Syriac grammar notebook, completed March 24, 1778

This volume, in Parmele's hand, is written in Syriac and English. It, too, appears to have been passed to Polly Parmele upon his death.

Chaldee verb notebooks, ca. 1778

These three small volumes, written in Chaldean Aramaic and English, are in Parmele's hand.

Notes/Observations on the Trinity by William Jones, ca. 1784

These appear to be Parmele's notes on a work by the scholar William Jones (1726-1800) regarding the Catholic doctrine of the Trinity.

Journal on religious matters, 1782-1783

Parmele appears to have been in Virginia when he made these journal entries.

Letters to George Simpson, 1796, 1806

Two letters to the cashier of the Bank of the United States requesting that funds be transferred to Andrew Bayard in Philadelphia, so that Paterson could receive his salary as associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.

Letters from Condy Raguet,

Four letters containing news of Royalist Army officers, including Vice Roy José de la Serna, arriving in Rio de Janeiro after their defeat at the Battle of Ayacucho. Raguet also writes of the public reaction to Bolívar’s victory.

Battlefield of Antietam, Sharpsburg, Maryland and vicinity, ca. 1862 (Raster Image)

This layer is a georeferenced raster image of the historic paper map: Map of the battlefield of Antietam, prepared by Wm. H. Willcox, Top. Off. & A.A.D.C. on Brig. Genl. Doubleday's staff from actual surveys ; J.G. Shoemaker, engr. 4th ed. It was published ca. 1862 by Lith. of P.S. Duval & Son. Scale [ca. 1:13,300]. Covers area in Washington County, Maryland including the Sharpsburg region and the Antietam National Battlefield. The image inside the map neatline is georeferenced to the surface of the earth and fit to the Maryland State Plane Coordinate System (in Meters) (Fipszone 1900). All map collar and inset information is also available as part of the raster image, including any inset maps, profiles, statistical tables, directories, text, illustrations, or other information associated with the principal map. This map shows features such as roads and streets, houses, fences, vegetation, drainage, and artillery and Union and Confederate troop positions, and more. Relief shown by hachures.
