VI. Harvard College Papers, 1st series, Volume 6, 1809-1811

The sixth volume of College Papers contains original documents dating from 1809 to 1811, spanning the tenures of presidents Samuel Webber and John Thornton Kirkland, and treasurers Jonathan Jackson and John Davis. Much of the volume consists of general administrative correspondence exchanged between Kirkland and Davis.

The eleventh volume of College Papers contains original documents from 1824 to 1825, spanning the tenures of president John Thornton Kirkland and treasurer John Davis. Much of the volume consists of general administrative correspondence exchanged between Kirkland and Davis, as well as correspondence between Davis and Steward Stephen Higginson.

Harvard College Master of Arts diploma of Samuel Mather, 1701 July 3

This diploma was awarded to Samuel Mather on July 3, 1701, when he received an A.M. from Harvard College. It is signed by Increase Mather (then-President of Harvard), Samuel Willard, Henry Flynt, Jabez Fitch, and Nathaniel Saltonstall.

One-page sheet with handwritten essay titled, "Know then thyself, presume not God to scan, The proper study of mankind is man," composed by graduate Ward Cotton for the July 17, 1793 Harvard University Commencement. The essay begins with the quote "'Man is a being composed of an organized body, and a rational soul.'"
