Eight receipts from Abiel Holmes for room and board dated October 19, 1796; January 3, 1797; February 20, 1797; April 19, 1797; July 14, 1797; October 10, 1797; April 17, 1798; and July 12, 1798.

Receipt for medical services, 1799 September

Two copies of a handwritten receipt signed by Dr. William Gamage (Harvard AB 1767) for "medicine and attendance" for Loammi Baldwin's son in September 1799.

Records of the Debating Club of Resident Graduates, 1792-1793

This journal contains minutes from meetings held from February 1792 through October 1793. These minutes include the names of participants and the questions and arguments which were debated, including: whether or not French slaves in the West Indies should be emancipated; whether or not reading novels was beneficial; whether sermons were more effective when memorized than when simply read; whether theater contributed to corrupt morals; whether drunkenness or gambling was more detrimental to society; and whether or not French assistance to the colonies in their Revolutionary War provided sufficient cause for the United States to join with France in its own wars. Most of the topics of debate centered on religion, government and education. Several entries also include notes on related topics of discussion, including the reasons for Native American tribes' hostilities against federal authorities, and there are several references to published works which were cited and consulted in the course of debate.

Eulogy of Samuel Shapleigh, April 1800

White entitled this document: Oration occasioned by the death of Samuel Shapleigh Esq. who died at Cambridge April 18th, 1800. The eulogy honors Samuel Shapleigh, who graduated with the Harvard College class of 1789 and served as both the Butler and Librarian of Harvard before his death in 1800.

Measures of hall and chapel, [ca. 1800]

This note, likely in the hand of President Willard, directs Mr. [Josiah] Moore and Mr. [John] Walton measure the length, width, and height of the chapel, hall, and library in Harvard Hall. Includes each room's measurements.

Agreement between John Lowell and John Walton, Thomas Mason, Joseph Holmes, and Samuel Mason to finish the basement of University Hall, 7 June 1814

This contract includes stipulations for finishing the two kitchens, windows, and floors in University Hall by the first of August 1815.

Acknowledgment of Atkins, Dexter, Hall 1, 1780 March 22

One-page handwritten letter to "the Reverent the President, Professors, and Tutors of Harvard College," signed with the last names of Dudley Atkins, Samuel Dexter, and Joseph Hall, asking the President and Tutors for their pardon.
