This study aimed to identify the parameters related to the expression of the reactivity in horses during handling and based on that proposed and validated a scale of composite measure reactivity score to characterize horse's reactivity. To this end, the first stage (S1) proposed the scale and the second (S2) validated it. In S1, 364 Lusitano horses were evaluated, 188 were adult breeding mares (4–12 years old), and 176 were foals (males/females, aged from 2 months to 2 years). During hooves trimming, vermifuge application, palpation scores were assigned to behaviors of movement, ears and eyes position, breathing, vocalization, and urination. A response parameter called reactivity was attributed to each animal, ranging from score 1 (nonreactive/calm) to score 4 (very reactive/aggressive). The verification of the possible parameters (age, behavior), which explains the response parameter (reactivity), was taken using ordinal proportional odds model. Movement, breathing, ears and eyes position, vocalization, and age appear to explain the reactivity of horses during handling (P < .01). Therefore, based on these parameters, it was possible to propose two scales of composite measure reactivity score: one to characterize the mares and another the foals. On S2, the proposed scale was validated by the simultaneous application of Forced Human Approach Test, another commonly used test to evaluate the reactivity in horses, with a correlation of 0.97 (P < .05). The assessment of the reactivity of horses during handling by a composite measure reactivity score scale is valid, and easy to apply, without disrupting daily routine and override the impact of individual differences.

ABSTRACT; Multi-beam swath bathymetry carried out in NW Gulf of Cadiz revealed several intriguing features, lying at depths between -4300 and- 4700 m. These features display kilometric crescent escarpments up to 100 m high with slopes between 6 and 27 degrees, in an area characterized by very shallow general slope gradients (0,5 °). The internal part of a Crescent consists of a depression filled up with upslope prograding drift developing towards the scarp. These features are interpreted as the coupled result of sedimentary and tectonic processes. It is proposed that the Crescents formed when a local morphologic irregularity, corresponding to the bathymetric expression of movement on an underlying thrust, is enhanced by the erosional activity of turbidity and bottom currents. The drift results from the re-deposition of the eroded material in the same location.

A avaliação do projeto demonstrou que ainda existem práticas a serem melhoradas, sendo a sua continuidade vantajosa para profissionais e parturientes; ABSTRACT: TITLE: Move to Better Birth - Freedom of Movement and Upright Positions in First Stage of Labor. The World Health Organization highlights ambulation and adoption of vertical position by the woman, as demonstrated beneficial practices and should be encouraged by obstetric nurses in the conduct of obstetric labor and normal delivery, in low risk situations. The project advocated for the promotion of ambulation and encouragement for the adoption of vertical positions in the active phase of labor. Nursing interventions to promote these practices were evaluated in the obstetric nurses team of Obstetric and Gynecological Emergency Department from Hospital Center Barreiro-Montijo, Business Public Entity, and in a group of women in labor, through the use of questionnaires. The needs of obstetric nurses and women in labor determined the realization of training and educacional activities and the development of information materials to support the care practice. The project evaluation demonstrates that there are still practices to be improved, and its continuity being advantageous for professionals and women in labor.

The late Paleozoic collision between Gondwana and Laurussia resulted in the polyphase deformation and magmatism that characterizes the Iberian Massif of the Variscan orogen. In the Central Iberian Zone, initial con- tinental thickening (D1; folding and thrusting) was followed by extensional orogenic collapse (D2) responsible for the exhumation of high-grade rocks coeval to the emplacement of granitoids. This study presents a tectonometamorphic analysis of the Trancoso-Pinhel region (Central Iberian Zone) to ex- plain the processes in place during the transition froman extension-dominated state (D2) to a compression-dom- inated one (D3).Wereveal the existence of low-dipping D2 extensional structures later affected by several pulses of subhorizontal shortening, each of them typified by upright folds and strike-slip shearing (D3, D4 and D5, as identified by superimposition of structures). The D2 Pinhel extensional shear zone separates a low-grade domain from an underlying high-grade domain, and it contributed to the thermal reequilibration of the orogen by facil- itating heat advection from lower parts of the crust, crustal thinning, decompression melting, and magma intru- sion. Progressive lessening of the gravitational disequilibrium carried out by this D2 shear zone led to a switch from subhorizontal extension to compression and the eventual cessation and capture of the Pinhel shear zone by strike-slip tectonics during renewed crustal shortening. High-grade domains of the Pinhel shear zone were folded together with low-grade domains to define the current upright folded structure of the Trancoso-Pinhel re- gion, the D3 Tamames-Marofa-Sátão synform. Newdating of syn-orogenic granitoids (SHRIMP U\\Pb zircon dat- ing) intruding the Pinhel shear zone, together with the already published ages of early extensional fabrics constrain the functioning of this shear zone to ca. 331–311 Ma, with maximum tectonomagmatic activity at ca. 321–317 Ma. The capture and apparent cessation of movement of the Pinhel shear zone occurred at ca. 317– 311 Ma.
