Challenges for a shared European countryside of uncertain future. Towards a modern community based landscape perspective

This paper addresses current changes in the highly diverse European landscape, and the way these transitions are being treated in policy and landscape management in the fragmented, heterogeneous and dynamic context of today’s Europe. It appears that intersecting driving forces are increasing the complexity of European landscapes and causing polarising developments in agricultural land use, biodiversity conservation and cultural landscape management. On the one hand, multifunctional rural landscapes, especially in peri-urban regions, provide services and functions that serve the citizens in their demand for identity, support their sense of belonging and offer opportunities for recreation and involvement in practical landscape management. On the other hand, industrial agricultural production on increasingly large farms produces food, feed, fibre and energy to serve expanding international markets with rural live ability and accessibility as a minor issue. The intermediate areas of traditionally dominant small and family farms in Europe seem to be gradually declining in profitability. The paper discusses the potential of a governance approach that can cope with the requirement of optimising land-sharing conditions and community-based landscape development, while adapting to global market conditions.

BRINGING STREET ART TO SCHOOL: OPEN TO INCLUDE

Inclusive Education values differences by reducing barriers to learning and promoting active participation and positive interactions between all members of school community. Nowadays, school faces numerous children/adolescents who for several reasons have developed challenging behaviours and high risk of dropping out school. They come often from socio-cultural-economic minority groups and have sometimes a repeated course of academic failure. Art has had the ability to bring together the interests of all, even of the most unsuitable. In this paper, the authors present an intervention through street art/graffiti done in a secondary school, with a ninth grade class covered by PIEF Programme. The project aimed to understand if the integration of graffiti art in educational process had impact on challenging behaviour. The study, with a qualitative methodology, shows contributions of artistic experience as an asset to educational development of students with challenging behaviours contributing to a better school and inclusion.

Uma interpretação da participação a partir da sistematização de experiência

A presente dissertação de mestrado relata sobre os resultados de uma sistematização de experiências, que foi realizada para ser o meu trabalho final de conclusão do X Curso de Mestrado em Sociologia (2005/2006) da Universidade de Évora em Portugal. A sistematização de experiências é uma ferramenta metodológica, que auxilia promotores e educadores populares para aperfeiçoarem e melhorarem a prática dos trabalhos de campo na execução de processos de desenvolvimento comunitário. Particularmente, neste trabalho, o eixo de sistematização, que adotamos foi para fazer uma interpretação da participação em um caso experimental da Metodologia da Capacitação Massiva - MCM, que é um método de formação de atores sociais para a gestão e produção coletiva. ABSTRACT; The present master degree dissertation describes the results of a systematization of experiences, that was prepared and presented as my final work in the conclusion of the X Master Degree Course in Sociology (2005/2006) of the University of Évora, in Portugal. The systematization of experiences is a methodological tool, which assists popular facilitators and educators to improve their fieldwork practices during the execution of processes of community development. For the preparation of this thesis, in particular, we adopted a systematization axis in order to make an interpretation of community participation in an experimental case of the so-called Massive Qualification Methodology- MCM. That it is a method of formation of social actors for the management and collective production.

Desenvolvimento e espiritualidade: Percursos de vida dos ministros ordenados da Igreja Católica

Este estudo procurou conhecer em que medida a espiritualidade se relaciona com o desenvolvimento ao longo da vida adulta. A amostra é constituída por, 4 Ministros ordenados da Igreja Católica, com idades compreendidas entre os 42 e 66 anos. A abordagem teórica foi conduzida em duas vertentes: 1) serviu-se das teorias de desenvolvimento e 2) incidiu sobre o estudo da espiritualidade e a forma como ela se relaciona com o desenvolvimento humano. Na parte metodológica, estudaram-se quatro histórias de vida, recolhidas inicialmente sob a forma escrita e depois completadas através de entrevistas abertas, que foram analisadas através da análise de conteúdo. Nos casos estudados verificou-se a presença da espiritualidade no percurso de vida e também que a mesma influenciou significativamente o seu desenvolvimento, onde os fatores comuns, que permitem relacionar a espiritualidade com desenvolvimento são visíveis e imprescindíveis para que o crescimento no sentido da vida plena aconteça com normalidade. ABSTRACT: This study intends to understand how spirituality is related to human development throughout adult life. The sample consists of four Catholic Ministers, with ages between 42 and 66 years old. The theoretical approach was conducted in two parts: 1) based on development theories and 2) focused on the study of spirituality and its relation with human development. ln the methodological part four life stories were studied, initially collected in written form and then completed by open interviews, analyzed through content analysis. ln the studied cases, spirituality was noticed in the life journey of ministers and it strongly affected its development. Moreover, common factors of association between spirituality and development are also visible and essential so that the path towards life fulfillment and full life happens normally.
