ABSTRACT: Being a nurse involves dealing with the science of caring. However, increasingly there is a concern that these professionals also should be well-taken care of. The quality of working life must be transversal to all the professions and all the workers, including assuring health, security and hygiene at work, as well as the good relationship between the colleagues, an excellent working environment and prevention of psychosocial risks; so that the quality of working life occurs within the workplace, the organization must have as its objective the fulfillment of workers in their profession. Intrinsic to this quality of life, motivation assumes a preponderant role in the decision making of the workers, and, in particular the nurses- the impulse exists to lead people to perform certain acts, attitudes or functions. ln this context, it was developed a study that involved the nurses in the Hospital do Espírito Santo de Évora E.P.E., presenting as its main objective the verification of motivation as a variable determining the quality of working life of these same professionals. We used a case study, involving a mixed methodology to validate or not the hypotheses, consequentially a non-experimental method in this research. With this research it is intended to create an instrument to support the management of the hospital in study, as well as the influential institutions in the area of Évora.

As a part of a multidisciplinary and integrated research, including conservation sciences and history, a proposal is presented for the historical reconstitution and the virtual restoration of the mannerist altarpiece of the main altar at the Espírito Santo Church, in Évora. The collected data is abundant and the scientific information, because of its technicality, is less prone to be easily understood by the general public, thus becoming less accessible. Web-based infographics are explored as privileged forms of disseminating results and raising awareness to Cultural Heritage. The project materializes as an Internet platform where data and a reconstitution proposal are shared in a visual and interactive way. In addition to the digital virtual reconstitution (2D), some tridimensional models (3D) are presented of various elements of the altarpiece, obtained using methods of computer graphics and digital photogrammetry

/ABSTRACT - Nowadays volumetric methods for bioaerosols sampling constitute the main methods to monitor the aeroallergens whereas “Hirst" methodology is the most dominant method to monitor airborne pollen. Recently some methodological advances have been introduced in this area matching biochemical and immunological technologies and so a study was accomplished in order to compare a "Cyclone” technology, developed under the scope of a European project - the LFE program -, with the mentioned standard method in terms of efficiency of airborne pollen sampling and detection of aeroallergens. Methods: Air samples from the outdoor environment were collected during the pollination period, along the year 2006 and 2007 with a "Hirst"-t3pe collector (Burkard® Seven Day Recording Volumetric Spore Trap®) and a "Cyclone"-type collector (Aeolus®, Coriolis® Bertin Technologies), placed side by side. They were installed on a meteorological platform situated at the center of Évora, 17m above ground level. Samples were analyzed according to the established protocols by each method. In a complementary way a data correlation was done between the symptomatologic inquiries fiom volunteers of the Immunoallergology external consultations at the Hospital Espírito Santo, in Évora. Everyone declaring breathing complaints during the spring season had done modified skin 'Trick" tests to the most usual aeroallergens of the region Results: It is waited from this study to test the efficiency of a new methodology for detection and analysis of bioaerossols, comparatively with the standard methodology and and its relation with the atopic simptomatologic breathing

ABSTRACT; This study aims to, by way of a comparative analysis between two hospitais, describe and identify aspects that are able to prove that the school activities developed in hospitals can help to ease the suffering of hospitalized children as well as contribute to their full development. Over the last decades, the type of support given to hospitalized children has been changing due to the influence of studies conducted in the medical, human and social sciences fields. With these conceptions as a basis, perspectives have been created regarding how to provide better support to children during their stay at the hospital, clarifying and helping the professionals whose fundamental goal is the child's welfare at all levels: physical, pedagogical, social, emotional and psychological. Within the hospital walls, a classroom suited to the needs and situation of each child greatly benefits their socialization recovery through a process of inclusion, thereby permitting a continuation of the learning process. ln carrying out this research, the participation of the Portuguese Institute of Oncology and of the Évora Hospital was essential, wherein I was granted access to their pediatric services and to all the persons involved in this context. A qualitative analysis was conducted using data extracted from bibliographic research as well as from speeches gathered during interviews performed within the research framework. The substantial amount of information allows me to ratify the considerable importance and success of the pedagogic and educational activities in the development of hospitalized children, allowing, as was said before, to ease this difficult stage of children’s.

Temporary ponds are seasonal wetland habitats subjected to extreme and unstable ecological conditions. Some are classified as priority habitats for conservation by the European Union Habitats Directive. Our study area was the coastal plain of southwest Portugal, which spans across 100km north to south and hosts a large number of temporary ponds as a consequence of climatic and edaphic characteristics. Field sampling of floristic and edaphic data was carried out in 24 temporary ponds every spring between 2005 and 2008. We recorded a total of 174 plant species identified within visually homogeneous plots. We included the data in a geographic information system and classified ponds according to their floristic composition, using a biotic regionalization analysis based on species presence/absence, which is a practical and unambiguous criterion. We found three significantly different groups of ponds which corresponded to an eco-physiognomic pond typology: Mediterranean temporary ponds, marshlands, and disturbed ponds. For the first two pond types we defined characteristic or indicator plant species. We searched also for relationships between pond type and a series of large-scale climatic, geographic, and geological variables, as well as local-scale physical and chemical properties of the soil. Pond type was distinguished by a complex combination of some of these variables, including environmental energy, soil texture, nitrogen content of the soil and pH. A practical way of discriminating between different

Background and Aim: Although grasses and olive are the most relevant allergenic species in the Alentejo region, aggravation of allergic symptoms in the early spring, unrelated with those species pollen seasons, has been reported, particularly in urban environment. Plane trees, hence pollen, are highly abundant in the city of Évora, nonetheless allergen pollen profile has not yet been evaluated. The aim of this work was to characterize the allergen profile of pollen from Platanus hybrida, one of the most representative species in Evora showing pollination prior to the main pollen season in Alentejo. Methods: Pollen from Platanus hybrida and Dactylis glomerata was extracted with ammonium bicarbonate buffer, lyophilized and stored at -80ºC until analysis. Protein content was determined by the Bradford method. SDS-PAGE followed by western blot, using allergic patient sera (obtained from the Hospital do Espírito Santo de Évora – HESE), were performed to evaluate the allergen profile of the pollen. Sensitization and cross-reactivity was assessed by solid phase immunoblot. Results: Half of the patient exhibited sensitization to pollen extracts of P. Hybrida. Western blot have shown several immunoreactive bands in the Mr 10-90 kDa range. Immunoreactive bands were also observed in the protein profile according to the pI in the pI range 4.0-6.1. Cross-reactivity of P. hybrida with D. glomerata was found. Although several bands are common to D. glomerata, a band with ~50kDa was observed in P. hybrida but not in D. glometata. Conclusion: These results evidenced allergens found in P. hybrida pollen. Moreover, cross–reactivity between P. hybrida and highly allergenic species such as D. glomerata was found which probably contributes for aggravation of pollinosis in the early spring. Background and Aim: Grasses and olive are the most relevant allergenic species in the Alentejo region. However, aggravation of allergic symptoms has been reported in the early spring, before grass and olive pollen seasons. Quercus pollen is the most abundant pollen type in the early spring in Alentejo, nonetheless its allergen profile has not yet been evaluated. The aim of this work was to characterize the allergen profile of pollen from Quercus rotundifolia among the most representative species showing pollination in April, prior to the main pollen season in Alentejo. Methods: Pollen from Quercus rotundifolia, Olea europaea and Dactylis glomerata was extracted with ammonium bicarbonate buffer, lyophilized and stored at -80ºC until analysis. Extract from Quercus ilex pollen was kindly offered by Bial. Results: Most of the patient evidenced sensitization to pollen extracts of Q. rotundifolia. Protein profile of Q. rotundifolia has shown several bands in the Mr 10-90 kDa, mostly overlapping with Q. ilex. Western blot have shown several immunoreactive bands. Immunoreactive bands were also observed in the protein profile according to the pI in the range 4.0-6.1. Cross-reactivity between Q. rotundifolia with O. europaea and D. glomerata was found. Conclusion: These results evidenced allergens found in Q. rotundifolia pollen. It also shows that protein profile of Q. rotundifolia and Q. ilex are mostly alike suggesting that similarities in allergen profile are expected. Moreover, cross–reactivity between Q. rotundifolia and highly allergenic species such as O. europaea and D. glomerata was found which probably contributes to the aggravation of pollinosis in the early spring. Acknowledgments: This work was supported by FEDER through the “Programa Operacional Fatores de Competitividade – COMPETE” (Strategic projects of ICAAM and ICT 2013-2015). We also aknowledge Bial-Aristegui for supplying pollen and extract samples of Q. ilex.

ABSTRACT: ln the actual business context, with growmg market competitiveness and complexity, marketing has been getting higher relevance in company development, regardless the sector in which these companies operate. The areas of geriatrics and healthcare aren't an exception, although sometimes in some SME's the marketing strategies that shall regulate some of the company's decisions, aren't clearly defined. So, it becomes not only important, as a dire need, that, just like financial decisions, also marketing decisions, are made in an explicit and strategic way, so it becomes clear the path that the organization should follow. This work will focus on the marketing campaign of a company which acts on a business branch emerging in Portugal, the Integrated Continuous Care and Assisted Living Facilities, having as its objective the sustainability and expansion of this organization. Like most small companies, L Nostrum S.A., does not have a marketing plan, being of extreme significance the elaboration and implementation of a project of this nature. So, the proposal here presented has as its main objective the development of a short term marketing plan for the company L Nostrum S.A.
