INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION & RESEARCH FOR OH. Experiences of international networks for collaborative education and research using the One Health approach.

The Authors describe first-hand experiences carried out within the framework of selected International projects aimed at developing collaborative research and education using the One Health (OH) approach. Special emphasis is given to SAPUVETNET, a series of projects co-financed under the EU-ALFA program, and aimed to support an International network on Veterinary Public Health (VPH) formed by Veterinary Faculties from Latin-America (LA) and Europe (EU). SAPUVETNET has envisaged a series of objectives/activities aimed at promoting and enhancing VPH research/training and intersectoral collaboration across LA and EU using the OH approach, as well as participating in research and/or education projects/networks under the OH umbrella, namely EURNEGVEC-European Network for Neglected Vectors & Vector-Borne Infections, CYSTINET-European Network on Taeniosis/Cysticercosis, and NEOH-Network for Evaluation of One Health; the latter includes expertise in multiple disciplines (e.g. ecology, economics, human and animal health, epidemiology, social and environmental sciences, etc.) and has the primary purpose of enabling quantitative evaluation of OH initiatives by developing a standardized evaluation protocol. The Authors give also an account of the ongoing creation of OHIN-OH International Network, founded as a spin-off result of SAPUVETNET. Finally, some examples of cooperation development projects characterised by an OH approach are also briefly mentioned.

Prática de ensino supervisionada em educação pré-escolar e ensino do 1º ciclo do ensino básico: conceções alternativas em ciência

O presente relatório tem como finalidade apresentar o trabalho realizado no âmbito das unidades curriculares da Prática de Ensino Supervisionada em Pré-Escolar e em 1.º Ciclo do Ensino Básico, inseridas no Mestrado em Educação Pré-Escolar e Ensino do 1.º Ciclo do Ensino Básico na Universidade de Évora, com enfoque na temática: “Conceções Alternativas em Ciência”. A PES decorreu em dois contextos distintos, sendo primeiramente realizada numa sala de Educação Pré-Escolar na Escola Básica Galopim de Carvalho e por fim, numa turma de 2.º ano do 1.º Ciclo do Ensino Básico, na Escola Básica dos Canaviais. Ambas pertencem ao Agrupamento n.º 4 de Évora. A investigação realizada consistiu em identificar e valorizar as conceções alternativas das crianças/alunos; promover a construção de conhecimentos a partir das conceções alternativas; usar estratégias de mudança concetual que visassem criar um confronto entre as conceções alternativas e os conceitos científicos. Esta investigação permitiu a confirmação de que é importante, no ensino das ciências, serem promovidas atividades de mudança concetual, apesar de alguns investigadores afirmarem que estas conceções alternativas podem ser um obstáculo na aprendizagem de novos conhecimentos; ABSTRACT: This report aims to present the work done within the course units of “Supervised Teaching Practice in Pre-School and 1st Basic Education” in Masters in “Pre-School Education and Training of 1st Basic Education” at the University of Évora, focusing on the theme “Alternative conceptions in Science”. The PES held in two different contexts: first performed in a pre-school education classroom at “Escola Básica Galopim de Carvalho” and second in a second year class of 1st Basic Education at “Escola Básica dos Canaviais”. Both schools belong to “Agrupamento n. º 4 of Évora”. The research was carried out to identify and value the alternative conceptions of children/students; promote the construction of knowledge from alternative conceptions; use conceptual change strategies which aimed to create a confrontation between alternative conceptions and scientific concepts. This investigation has confirmed that it is important in science education to promote conceptual change activities, as some researchers claim that these alternative conceptions can be an obstacle in learning/developing new skills.
