Este estudio tiene como objetivo analizar los resultados de la matriz de competitividad y sus implicaciones para la economía costarricense, mediante la aplicación del Analysis of Nations (CAN), el cual es un instrumento computacional y base de datos de comercio internacional.Dentro de los resultados se observó, que en el mercado meta “países del mundo”, los trece productos seleccionados, representaron un 45,3 % del valor total de exportaciones en 1998. Adicionalmente el 17,2% de este porcentaje, se clasificaron como dinámicos y competitivos, el 48,9 % se catalogaron como estacionarios y no competitivos, el 5,8 % son estacionarios competitivos, y los dinámicos no competitivos representaron el 28,1%. El índice de adaptabilidad muestra que esta economía ha disminuido su nivel de especialización y su cuota de mercado, lo cual indica que los productos analizados no se adaptaron bien a las condiciones imperantes en el mercado mundial. ABSTRACTThis paper analyzes the results of the competitiveness array and its implications for Costa Rican Economy, after applying the Competitive Analysis of Nations (CAN), a software for international trade database. This instrument makes a diagnosis of the competitiveness situation in Costa Rica and it’s a fundamental base, so it can be make a competitiveness indicator for the economy.The results showed that the thirteen selected products represented a 45,3% of the 1998 total exports. Additionally, 17,2% of these products were classify as dynamic and competitive sectors, 48,9% are steady and no competitive sectors and 5.8% are steady and competitive. Finally, the dynamics products that are no competitive represent a 28.1%. Additionally, the adaptability index shows that the economy has decrease its level of specialization and its market share. This result indicates that these products does not have a good adaptation to the market conditions.

ResumenCon el presente artículo se pretende, por un lado, caracterizar la dinámica de la productividad agrícola en una región en proceso mismo de colonización, como era el caso de la región norte de Costa Rica; y por otro lado, aportar insumos de carácter regional que permitan posteriormente, elaborar análisis comparativos que ayuden a esclarecer las verdaderas dimensiones de la especialización o diversificación del agro costarricense.AbstractThis article is aimed, on the one hand, at pointing out the changes in agricultural productivity in a region undergoing a settlement process, as was the case of the northern region of Costa Rica; and on the other hand, at providing data at the regional level that will allow for subsequent comparative analyses that will help clarify the real scope of specialization or diversification of the Costa Rican agricultural activities.

This article analyzes the relationship between the admission exams from the Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica (UNA) and the performance of students during their first two courses of specialization in the field of Teaching Mathematics.In this analysis, the following variables were considered: individual result at the admission exam, average performance during high school and during the first two Mathematics courses of the career. To determine the relation between the variables, Pearson’s correlation coefficient was used.The results reveal that the different modules of the admission exams show a low correlation with the performance in both courses. Therefore, the research concluded that the current process of selection of students, based on an admission exam, is not a tool that can be considered adequate to detect the previous knowledge to guarantee the success in the university career

We point out in this article centered on Education the main principles that shape the educational model of the industrial age. Those principles were explained by Alvin Toffler in his book The Third Wave. They are: standardization, specialization, synchronization, concentration, maximization and centralization. After emphasizing them and showing how each one of them leaves its mark in the formal education in the industrial age, we defend the thesis that the new education is originated and configures itself in a process of dismantling and replacement of the principles of the industrialism by the new principles of the raising post-industrial society, also called Society of the Knowledge.

Recibido 28 de setiembre de 2011 • Aceptado 24 de octubre de 2011 • Corregido 06 de noviembre de 2011     Se plantea una reflexión acerca de la experiencia de integración curricular realizada por académicos y académicas universitarias, del primer nivel de diplomado de la carrera de Licenciatura en Pedagogía con énfasis en Educación Preescolar, de la División de Educación Básica de la Universidad Nacional, durante el primer semestre del año 2011. La integración ha sido concebida por el equipo del nivel como un proceso de crecimiento personal y profesional, para generar oportunidades que permitan el fortalecimiento de equipos docentes y de los cursos del nivel, en procura de brindar mayores oportunidades para el desarrollo estudiantil.
