Contiene información abundante basada en cifras sobre la situación alarmante de la violencia contra las mujeres en diversos países del mundo, lo cual evidencia que es un problema muy grave que conlleva femicidio y morbilidad. La autora hace una excitativa a todas las personas a la autorrefl exión y a la promoción de cambios socioculturales, principalmente a los y a las agentes educativos para contrarrestar prejuicios y costumbres que se basen en la inferioridad o superioridad de cualquiera de los géneros o en los papeles estereotipados para hombres y para mujeres que legitiman o exacerban la violencia contra las mujeres. El texto ofrece una serie de definiciones sobre las diferentes formas de violencia contra las mujeres, así como aclaraciones sobre mitos y realidades asociados a cada una de ellas, para promover la sensibilización que tanto está urgiendo.

Sensitization and Disposition to Change Facing the Challenges of the New Educational Circumstances

This article is about the necessity of an up to date vision in teachers’ training. It starts with the latest studies and advances surrounding learning-along-life term. It presents a set of topics inspired in the contributions of new fields of study connected to learning. Such contributions, as neuroscience, should be considered in the decisions related to future teachers’ training, thus favoring the transformation of the pedagogical practice. Awareness and disposition to change are essential requirements for teacher trainers who will drive investigative processes and pedagogical proposals generation; all of this according to the new and dynamic knowledge society.

Proposal for Academic Achievement and Permanence of Students in the 7th Grade (1)

This paper analyzes the impact of change processes experienced by many student populations when completing primary education (1st-6th grade) and starting secondary education (7th-11th grade). Based on the research conducted, this paper describes situations and aspects that may result in conditional factors for the student’s adjustment at this level: time-space changes, as well as organizational and dynamic changes that would set the new educational environment and social context in which this new stage will be developed. Such conditional factors that affect learning in incoming students: programs, teaching methodology, learning styles and new evaluation methods will be discussed. As a result of this research, a proposal is presented to facilitate transition from primary to the secondary education. This proposal includes guidelines for awareness and strengthening of pedagogical mediation, which would contribute to the permanence of students from all types of institutions in the education system.  (1) [Translator’s note: The Costa Rican education system is composed of primary education (1st-6th grade) and secondary education (7th-11th grade).]

Raising Awareness on Teacher Training Changes: Perspectives and Challenges

One of the numerous challenges in the educational processes is teacher training, particularly in the framework of neo-liberal global societies ruled by the competitiveness of regular and continuous education programs in teacher training. It is a matter of concern and, therefore, a matter of analysis, if we consider the deep impact in all contexts. Accordingly, this paper discusses the situation from a descriptive perspective as a basic requirement to go beyond the analysis on the urgency of having clear educational policies related to the variety and quality of curricular programs; and, above all, a strong awareness from teacher trainers to see themselves as the critical creative mass from which change can be made, based on socially human proposals.  

Programa de Atención Integral de la Persona Adulta Mayor (PAIPAM)

El Programa de Atención Integral de la Persona Adulta Mayor, PAIPAM, del Centro de Estudios Generales de la Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica, tuvo su origen con un curso de sensibilización sobre el proceso de envejecimiento y la etapa de la vejez dirigido a jóvenes estudiantes universitarios(as), en 1996. Este Programa integra todas las áreas del quehacer universitario, a saber: la docencia, la extensión, la investigación, la producción y la vinculación externa con el fin de contribuir al mejoramiento de la calidad de vida de las personas adultas mayores, con actividades y proyectos que facilitan la convivencia amorosa entre las distintas generaciones y desde valores como la comprensión, el respeto y la solidaridad Abstract The integrated project named Programme of Comprehensive Care for Seniors (PAIPAM as per its acronym in Spanish) had its starting point in an awareness course on aging and elderly taught to freshmen students of the Humanities Department back in 1996. By the year 2000 the course had became a regular programme of the Humanities Department at the Universidad Nacional. It integrates all the academic areas of the University; namely, teaching, extension, research, production and external linkage. PAIPAM seeks to contribute to theimprovement of the quality of life of senior citizens by means of activities and projects that further facilitate a caring coexistence between generations while growing the values of understanding, respect and solidarity.
