This paper describes the fabrication of thin films of porphyrin and metallophthalocyanine derivatives on different substrates for the optochemical detection of HCl gas and electrochemical determination of L-cysteine (CySH). Solid state gas sensor for HCl gas was fabricated by coating meso-substituted porphyrin derivatives on glass slide and examined optochemical sensing of HCl gas. The concentration of gaseous HCl was monitored from the changes in the absorbance of Soret band. Among the different porphyrin derivatives, meso- tetramesitylporphyrin (MTMP) coated film showed excellent sensitivity towards HCl and achieved a detection limit of 0.03ppm HCl. Further, we have studied the self-assembly of 1,8,15,22-tetraaminometallophthalocyanine (4-MTAPc; M = Co and Ni) from DMF on GC electrode. The CVs for the self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) of 4-CoIITAPc and 4-NiIITAPc show two pairs of well-defined redox couple corresponding to metal and ring. Using the 4-CoIITAPc SAM modified electrode, sensitive and selective detection of L-cysteine was demonstrated. Further, the SAM modified electrode also successfully separates the oxidation potentials of AA and CySH with a peak separation of 320mV.

Silica coated Ag nanoparticles with defined surface plasmon resonances are used to selectively detect and analyze protein cofactors in solution and on interfaces via surface enhanced resonance Raman spectroscopy. The silica coating has a surprisingly small effect on optical amplification but minimizes unwanted interactions between the protein and the nanoparticle.

This article describes the highly sensitive and selective determination of epinephrine (EP) using self-assembled monomolecular film (SAMF) of 1,8,15,22-tetraamino-phthalocyanatonickel(II) (4-NiIITAPc) on Au electrode. The 4-NiIITAPc SAMF modified electrode was prepared by spontaneous adsorption of 4-NiIITAPc from dimethylformamide solution. The modified electrode oxidizes EP at less over potential with enhanced current response in contrast to the bare Au electrode. The standard heterogeneous rate constant (k) for the oxidation of EP at 4-NiIITAPc SAMF modified electrode was found to be 1.94102 cm s1 which was much higher than that at the bare Au electrode. Further, it was found that 4-NiIITAPc SAMF modified electrode separates the voltammetric signals of ascorbic acid (AA) and EP with a peak separation of 250mV. Using amperometric method the lowest detection limit of 50nM of EP was achieved at SAMF modified electrode. Simultaneous amperometric determination of AA and EP was also achieved at the SAMF modified electrode. Common physiological interferents such as uric acid, glucose, urea and NaCl do not interfere within the potential window of EP oxidation. The present 4-NiIITAPc SAMF modified electrode was also successfully applied to determine the concentration of EP in commercially available injection.

Electropolymerized film of 3,3,3,3-tetraaminophthalocyanatonickel(II) (p-NiIITAPc) on glassy carbon (GC) electrode was used for the selective and stable determination of 3,4-dihydroxy-l-phenylalanine (l-dopa) in acetate buffer (pH 4.0) solution. Bare GC electrode fails to determine the concentration of l-dopa accurately in acetate buffer solution due to the cyclization reaction of dopaquinone to cyclodopa in solution. On the other hand, p-NiIITAPc electrode successfully determines the concentration of l-dopa accurately because the cyclization reaction was prevented at this electrode. It was found that the electrochemical reaction of l-dopa at the modified electrode is faster than that at the bare GC electrode. This was confirmed from the higher heterogeneous electron transfer rate constant (k0) of l-dopa at p-NiIITAPc electrode (3.35 102 cm s1) when compared to that at the bare GC electrode (5.18 103 cm s1). Further, it was found that p-NiIITAPc electrode separates the signals of ascorbic acid (AA) and l-dopa in a mixture with a peak separation of 220 mV. Lowest detection limit of 100 nM was achieved at the modified electrode using amperometric method. Common physiological interferents like uric acid, glucose and urea does not show any interference within the potential window of l-dopa oxidation. The present electrode system was also successfully applied to estimate the concentration of l-dopa in the commercially available tablets.

We fabricated high performance supercapacitors by using all carbon electrodes, with volume energy in the order of 103 Whcm3, comparable to Li-ion batteries, and power densities in the range of 10 Wcm3, better than laser-scribed-graphene supercapacitors. All-carbon supercapacitor electrodes are made by solution processing and filtering electrochemically-exfoliated graphene sheets mixed with clusters of spontaneously entangled multiwall carbon nanotubes. We maximize the capacitance by using a 1:1 weight ratio of graphene to multi-wall carbon nanotubes and by controlling their packing in the electrode film so as to maximize accessible surface and further enhance the charge collection. This electrode is transferred onto a plastic-paper-supported double-wall carbon nanotube film used as current collector. These all-carbon thin films are combined with plastic paper and gelled electrolyte to produce solid-state bendable thin film supercapacitors. We assembled supercapacitor cells in series in a planar configuration to increase the operating voltage and find that the shape of our supercapacitor film strongly affects its capacitance. An in-line superposition of rectangular sheets is superior to a cross superposition in maintaining high capacitance when subject to fast charge/discharge cycles. The effect is explained by addressing the mechanism of ion diffusion into stacked graphene sheets.

-Conjugated polymers are the most promising semiconductor materials to enable printed organic thin film transistors (OTFTs) due to their excellent solution processability and mechanical robustness. However, solution-processed polymer semiconductors have shown poor charge transport properties mainly originated from the disordered polymer chain packing in the solid state as compared to the thermally evaporated small molecular organic semiconductors. The low charge carrier mobility, typically < 0.1 cm2 /V.s, of polymer semiconductors poses a challenge for most intended applications such as displays and radio-frequency identification (RFID) tags. Here we present our recent results on the dike topyrrolopyrrole (DPP)-based polymers and demonstrate that when DPP is combined with appropriate electron donating moieties such as thiophene and thienothiophene, very high charge carrier mobility values of ~1 cm2/V.s could be achieved.

Organisations at the centre of the states industry, such as Screen Queensland, have undergone substantial and ongoing changes in the last five years. Other organisations funded by Screen Queensland, such as QPIX, Queenslands only film development centre, have recently closed. The Brisbane International Film Festival has been restructured to become the Brisbane Asia Pacific Film Festival as of 2014. In an uncertain industry currently characterised by limited funding and diminishing support structures, local emerging filmmakers require significant initiatives and a sophisticated understanding of how to best utilise fledgling distribution models as part of a tailored strategy for their content. This essay includes interviews with emerging Brisbane filmmakers who have used a combination of traditional and contemporary approaches to exhibition and distribution thus far in their careers. It argues that for these filmmakers, while film festivals do function as crucial platforms for exposure, in the current digital market they cannot be relied upon as the only platform in securing further mainstream or commercial release. They can, however, be incorporated into an alternative distribution model that shows awareness of the contemporary situation in Australia. The research findings are arguably indicative of the challenges faced by filmmakers statewide, and suggest that further support strategies need to be considered to revive Queenslands film culture and provide immediate support for emerging filmmakers. Queenslands film sector is currently in the midst of significant change.

This volume examines how disruptive innovations are reshaping industry boundaries and challenging conventional business models and practices in the industries for film, video and photography. The thirteen chapters provide a rich and diverse account of these processes from a wide range of country contexts. The book fills the gap between the study of disruption by innovation scholars in business schools and the recognition of disruption by academics and practitioners from non-business school disciplines and contexts, including the broader social sciences.

A new imaging methodology is described to visualise the post lens tear film (PLTF) during contact lens wear. A rotating-Scheimpflug camera in combination with sodium fluorescein allows evaluation of the PLTF for different contact lens modalities, including mini-scleral, rigid gas permeable (RGP) and soft contact lenses. This imaging technique provides an extension of the instruments current functionality. The potential advantages and limitations of the technique are discussed.

In 2012, the Brisbane International Film Festival officially came of age, celebrating its twenty-first birthday. The festival has emerged from a tumultuous adolescence and redefined its position on the Australian festival circuit as an advocate of locally made films and documentary filmmaking in particular. Brisbanes International Film Festival opened in 1992 and has since been attended by more than 400,000 filmgoers. The festival is held annually and showcases a diverse range of feature films, documentaries, short films, animation and experimental work, childrens films and retrospectives.

This chapter begins by outlining the dynamics of contemporary international film production and the inherent tension between design interest and location interest. A history of the promotion of particular places as filmmaking locations (including Hollywood) is presented, prior to the establishment of the first film commissions. The creation of international associations and their role in professionalization, norm setting and the standardization of offerings and activities, is then described. The chapter concludes with a discussion of commissions work, the emergent discourse of film friendliness, and the differences between location marketing and other kinds of destination marketing.

A significant media city globally , Sydney is the production and design centre for the Australian media system and a subsidiary node of larger international systems principally headquartered in Los Angeles and London. Its media cluster is undergoing transformations to improve its position internationally by increasing capabilities and ties to other Australian and international production clusters. Sydneys media cluster is a collection of suburbs forming an arc along major transport corridors stretching from Macquarie Park in the north to Sydney airport in the south. As a dispersed rather than tightly bound cluster, it is defined by the functional proximity provided by automobile and telecommunication networks Sydneys media cluster is considered here along two dimensionsthat of Sydneys place within the ecology of Australian and international media and that of its internal organization within the geographical space of metropolitan Sydney. The first examines Sydneys media cluster at the level of the metropolitan area of Sydney within its state, national and international contexts; while the second digs below this level to explore its working out in urban space.

Australian copyright law is broken, and the Australian Government isnt moving quickly to fix it. Borrowing, quoting, and homage are fundamental to the creative process. This is how people are inspired to create. Under Australian law, though, most borrowing is copyright infringement, unless it is licensed or falls within particular, narrow categories. This year marks five years since the very real consequences of Australias restrictive copyright law for Australian artists were made clear in the controversial litigation over Men at Works 1981 hit Down Under. The band lost a court case in 2010 that found that the songs iconic flute riff copied some of the 1934 childrens song Kookaburra Sits in the Old Gumtree. A new book and documentary tell us more about the story behind the anthem and the court case. The book, Down Under by Trevor Conomy, and the documentary, You Better Take Cover by Harry Hayes, bring renewed interest and new perspectives on the tragic story.
