To solve a health and safety problem on a waste treatment facility, different multicriteria decision methods were used, including the PROV Exponential decision method. Four alternatives and ten attributes were considered. We found a congruent solution, validated by the different methods. The AHP and the PROV Exponential decision method led us to the same options ordering, but the last method reinforced one of the options as being the best performing one, and detached the least performing option. Also, the ELECTRE I method results led to the same ordering which allowed to point the best solution with reasonable confidence. This paper demonstrates the potential of using multicriteria decision methods to support decision making on complex problems such as risk control and accidents prevention.

Poly(vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene)/NaY zeolite composite membranes were prepared by solvent casting and evaluated as a suitable drug release platform through the evaluation of loading and release of ibuprofen. The membranes were characterized at the morphological, structural and mechanical levels. The 1H-NMR spectra indicate that only the membranes with 16 and 32 % of NaY were useful for IBU encapsulation and the drug release was followed by UV-Vis spectroscopy. The release profile is independent of the zeolite content and can be described by the Korsmeyer-Peppas model. The membrane with 32 % zeolite content releases more than double IBU amount when compared with the membrane with 16 % showing that zeolite content allows tailoring membrane drug release content for specific applications. The drug release platform developed in this work is suitable for other drugs and applications.

Extreme value models are widely used in different areas. The Birnbaum–Saunders distribution is receiving considerable attention due to its physical arguments and its good properties. We propose a methodology based on extreme value Birnbaum–Saunders regression models, which includes model formulation, estimation, inference and checking. We further conduct a simulation study for evaluating its performance. A statistical analysis with real-world extreme value environmental data using the methodology is provided as illustration.
