Synthesis, infrared spectra and thermoanalytical properties of transition metal sulfite hydrazine hydrates

Transition metal sulfite hydrazine hydrates, MSO3·xN2H4·yH2O whereM=Mn, Fe, Co, Ni and Zn have been prepared and characterized by chemical analysis, infrared spectra, thermoanalytical and combustion studies. The colours,x andy parameters of the complexes varied depending upon the preparation conditions. Thermal decomposition characteristics differ from metal to metal yielding metal oxides at relatively low temperatures.Mittels chemischer Analyse, IR-Spektren, thermoanalytischen und Verbrennungsstudien wurden die Hydrazinhydrate der hergestellten Übergangsmetallsulfite MSO3·xN2H4·yH2O mitM=Mn, Fe, Co, Ni und Zn beschrieben. Farbe sowie die Parameterx undy der Komplexe hängen von den Herstellungsbedingungen ab. Die thermische Zersetzung, bei der bei relativ niedrigen Temperaturen Metalloxide entstehen, ist von Metall zu Metall verschieden.

Sacrificial photolysis of water on TiO2 fine powders prepared by the hydrothermal method

The often discussed role of surface hydroxylation of TiO2 particles as an essential characterestics for their photocatalytic activity can be verified by preparing TiO2 powders by hydrothermal method since hydroxylated surface layers will be better retained on these particles formed in superheated water. Thus, fine powders of TiO2 (rutile) with high degree of crystallinity are formed from titanium oxychloride in the mixed solvent of water and 2-propanol at 160–230°C and 20–120 atm. The anatase phase is produced from the same medium when sulfate ion impurity is present, with Image . TiO2 powders are washed free of anions and 2-propanol by ultrafiltration and are Pt mounted by a photochemical method. Aqueous suspensions of both forms of TiO2 neither as such nor after Pt-loading, do not produce H2 on band gap illumination whereas, H2 is generated in presence of hole scavengers such as EDTA, TEOA, sulfite or hypophosphite. The effects of hole scavenger concentration, Pt : TiO2 ratio, particulate suspension density and the nature of hole scavengers on H2 production are presented. Platinised rutile powders are equally active as anatase in sacrificial systems.

Preparation, characterisation and thermal properties of hydrazinium derivatives. Part III

Hydrazinium acetate, metavanadate, sulfite, sulphamate and thiocyanate have been prepared by the reaction of corresponding ammonium salts with hydrazine hydrate. The compounds were characterised by chemical analysis and infrared spectra. Thermal behaviour of these hydrazinium derivatives have been investigated using thermogravimetry and differential thermal analysis.

In our effort to explore the use of the sulfite ion to design hybrid and open-framework materials, we have been able to prepare, under hydrothermal conditions, zero-dimensional [Zn(C12H8N2)(SO3)]center dot 2H(2)O, I (a = 7.5737(5) angstrom, b = 10.3969(6) angstrom, c = 10.3986(6) angstrom, alpha = 64.172(1)degrees, beta = 69.395(1)degrees, gamma = 79.333(1)degrees, Z = 2, and space group P (1) over bar), one-dimensional [Zn-2(C12H8N2)(SO3)(2)(H2O)], II (a = 8.0247(3) angstrom, b = 9.4962(3) angstrom, c = 10.2740(2) A, alpha = 81.070(1)degrees, beta = 80.438(1)degrees, gamma = 75.66(5)degrees, Z = 2, and space group P (1) over bar), two-dimensional [Zn-2(C10H8N2)(SO3)(2)]center dot H2O, III (a = 16.6062(1) angstrom, b = 4.7935(1) angstrom, c = 19.2721(5) angstrom, beta = 100.674(2)degrees, Z = 4, and space group C2/c), and three-dimensional [Zn-4(C6H12N2)(SO3)(4)(H2O)(4)], IV (a = 11.0793(3) angstrom, c = 8.8246(3) angstrom, Z = 2, and space group P42nm), of which the last three are coordination polymers. A hybrid open-framework sulfite-sulfate of the composition [C2H10N2][Nd(SO3)(SO4)(H2O)](2), V (a = 9.0880(3) angstrom, b = 6.9429(2) angstrom, c = 13.0805(5) A, beta = 91.551(2)degrees, Z = 2, and space group P2(1)/c), with a layered structure containing metal-oxygen-metal bonds has also been described.
