Chlorine NQR in 2,6-dichloropyridine has been investigated in the temperature range 77 K to room temperature and a single resonance line has been observed throughout. Using this data, torsional frequencies of the molecule have been evaluated on the basis of both the Bayer theory and the modified Bayer theory incorporating Tatsuzaki correction.

A 35Cl NQR study of 2-chloro-3-pyridinol showed the presence of four NQR signals at 77 K. One of the lines showed a positive temperature coefficient of the NQR frequency. 1H NMR studies showed the presence of intramolecular hydrogen bonding, and the anomalous NQR temperature dependence has been explained in terms of Bayer and hydrogen bond effects. The room temperature x-ray structure and the low-temperature NQR data suggest the presence of a phase transition.

Temperature dependence of 35Cl nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) frequencies has been studied in 3-amino-2-chloropyridine and 2-chloro-5-nitropyridine from 77 to 298 K. The data were analysed and the torsional frequencies regarding internal motions in the molecules evaluated in the above temperature range using Bayer's theory and Brown's method.

35Cl NQR has been investigated in two cyclotriphosphazene derivatives N3P3Cl4Ph2 and N3P3Cl4(NMe2)2. The observed frequencies are assigned to the various chlorines and the temperature variation of the NQR frequencies studied in the range from 77 K to 300 K. The results are analysed using the Bayer-Kushida-Brown approach. Torsional (librational) frequencies are found to fall in the range 10–25 cm−1 and are found to be only slightly temperature dependent.

The temperature variation of the 3’Cl n.q.r. frequencies in 3,5- and 2,3- dichloroanisoles has been reported here. Both compounds show two lines each, and these have been assigned to the two chlorines in the same molecule with the help of the additive model for the substituent effect. The temperature dependence has been analysed in terms of Bayer-Kushida-Brown model.The torsional frequencies and their temperature dependence have been calculated numerically under a two-mode approximation. 0.n comparing the results in 3,5-dichloroanisole with those in 3,5-dichlorophenol it can be seen that they show similar behaviour owing to the absence of hydrogen bonding in both.

Chlorine-35 n.q.r, has been observed for the first time in 6-chloropyridin-2-ol and its temperature dependence has been studied from 77 K to room temperature. The torsional frequencies and their temperature dependences have been calculated by using Bayer's theory with and without Tatsuzaki's modification.

The frequencies and variable-temperature behaviour of 35Cl nuclear quadrupole resonance in three aminocyclophosphazene derivatives are reported. The observed frequencies and multiplicity are correlated with the disposition of the substituents and the crystal structure. The temperature-dependence data are discussed in the framework of Bayer-Kushida-Brown equations and low-lying torsional (librational) frequencies and their average temperature coefficients are estimated. Brown's parabolic equation provides a good fit to the experimental data. Variable-temperature proton FT-NMR measurements (at 270 MHz) have also been carried out. The results are consistent with the NQR data and indicate the presence of two-site chemical exchange of the -NH protons and hydrogen bonding.

Es wird die Temperaturabhiingigkeit der CI35-Kernquadrupolresonanz in Natriumchlorat und Kupferchlorat im Temperature von 77 bis 300 °K untersucht. Es wird gezeigt, daß die Annahmen, die in der Theorie von Bayer gemacht werden, fur Chlorate gelten. Die Frequenz der Torsionsschwingungen der ClO3-Gruppe wird folglich mit dieser Theorie berechnet. Der berechnete Wert der Torsionsfrequenz stimmt gut mit vorhandenen Werten der Ramanspektroskopie überein.

Two resonances have been observed throughout the temperature range, corresponding to the two chemically inequivalent chlorine sites. Using Bayer's theory and Brown's method torsional frequencies and their temperature dependence in this range are estimated.

N.q.r. in sodium chloroacetate has been investigated at temperatures from 77 K to room temperature (c.300 K). A single line has been observed throughout this temperature range. Torsional frequencies of the molecule have been calculated in the above temperature range from Bayer's theory. Also the temperature coefficient of the torsional frequencies has been calculated by Brown's method.

Chlorine has been substituted at the 2- and 4-positions in the pyridine and quinoline rings of the corresponding N-oxides and 35Cl n.q.r. spectra have been studied in the temperature range 77–300 K. The change in the n.q.r. frequencies in N-oxides as compared to their parent compounds are interpreted in terms of the conjugative effect and the inductive effect of the N+—O– group. The negative temperature coefficients of the resonance frequencies in chloropyridine-N-oxides have been analysed using the Bayer, Kushida and Brown equations. The calculated torsional frequencies, which are in the range 52–78 cm–1, are found to be only slightly temperature dependent.

This paper presents the case history of the construction of a 3 m high embankment on the geocell foundation over the soft settled red mud. Red mud is a waste product from the Bayer process of Aluminum industry. Geotechnical problems of the site, the design of the geocell foundation based on experimental investigation and the construction sequences of the geocell foundations in the field are discussed in the paper. Based on the experimental studies, an analytical model was also developed to estimate the load carrying capacity of the soft clay bed reinforced with geocell and combination of geocell and geogrid. The results of the experimental and analytical studies revealed that the use of combination of geocell and the geogrid is always beneficial than using the geocell alone. Hence, the combination of geocell and geogrid was recommended to stabilize the embankment base. The reported embankment is located in Lanjigharh (Orissa) in India. Construction of the embankment on the geocell foundation has already been completed. The constructed embankmenthas already sustained two monsoon rains without any cracks and seepage.
