On the unreasonable effectiveness of Gutzmer's formula

In this article we plan to demonstrate the usefulness of `Gutzmer's formula' in the study of various problems related to the Segal-Bargmann transform. Gutzmer's formula is known in several contexts: compact Lie groups, symmetric spaces of compact and noncompact type, Heisenberg groups and Hermite expansions. We apply Gutzmer's formula to study holomorphic Sobolev spaces, local Peter-Weyl theorems, Paley-Wiener theorems and Poisson semigroups.

Computer-Based Design Synthesis Research: An Overview

One of the hallmarks of engineering design is the design synthesis phase where the creativity of the designer most prominently comes into play as solutions are generated to meet underlying needs. Over the past decades, methodologies for generating concepts and design solutions have matured to the point that computation-based synthesis provides a means to explore a wider variety of solutions and take over more tedious design tasks. On the mass flow rate from silos with lateral exit holes

The mass flow rate, (m) over dot, associated with the lateral outflow of dry, cohesionless granular material through circular orifices of diameter D made in vertical walls of silos was measured experimentally in order to determine also the influence of the wall thickness of the silo, w. Geometrical arguments, based on the outflow happening, are given in order to have a general correlation for (m) over dot embracing both quantities, D and w. The angle of repose appears to be an important characterization factor in these kinds of flows.
