The self-diffusion properties of pure CH4 and its binary mixture with CO2 within MY zeolite have been investigated by combining an experimental quasi-elastic neutron scattering (QENS) technique and classical Molecular dynamics simulations. The QENS measurements carried out at 200 K led to an unexpected self-diffusivity profile for Pure CH4 with the presence of a maximum for a loading of 32 CH4/unit cell, which was never observed before for the diffusion of apolar species in azeolite system With large windows. Molecular dynamics simulations were performed using two distinct microscopic models for representing the CH4/NaY interactions. Depending on the model, we are able to fairly reproduce either the magnitude or the profile of the self-diffusivity.Further analysis allowed LIS to provide some molecular insight into the diffusion mechanism in play. The QENS measurements report only a slight decrease of the self-diffusivity of CH4 in the presence of CO2 when the CO2 loading increases. Molecular dynamics simulations successfully capture this experimental trend and suggest a plausible microscopic diffusion mechanism in the case of this binary mixture.

Direct methanol synthesis from CH4 and O2 has been experimentally studied using pulsed discharge plasma in concentric-cylinder-type reactors. The methanol production becomes efficient with an increase in the average electric field strength of the reactor. A combination of the pulsed discharge and catalysts was tested and was proved to be effective in increasing both the production and selectivity of methanol. In the present stage, about 2% of CH4 can be converted into other hydrocarbons, and a methanol yield of around 0.5% and selectivity of 38% can be obtained when a catalyst of V2O5+SiO2 is combined with the pulsed discharge plasma

Conversion of hydrocarbon fuels to methanol promoted their efficient utilization as methanol can easily be converted to hydrogen gas, which has higher available energy. In this regard, nonthermal plasma approach using electrical discharges is gaining significance to improve the conversion process of methanol. The efficiency of this nonthermal plasma chemical reaction is affected by various chemical and electrical parameters. This paper presents some important results of the parametric study carried out in methanol synthesis with the aim of reducing energy losses associated with the conventional method. The parameters include the concentration of the reactants, corona electrode configurations, gas mixtures, etc. Further, an attempt was made to study the combined effect of catalysts and electrical discharges on methanol synthesis. Main emphasis was laid on the electrical aspects like electric field, power transfer efficiency, etc. The gas analysis was carried out under carefully maintained laboratory conditions

The detection efficiency of a gaseous photomultiplier depends on the photocathode quantum efficiency and the extraction efficiency of photoelectrons into the gas. In this paper we have studied the performance of an UV photon detector with P10 gas in which the extraction efficiency can reach values near to those in vacuum operated devices. Simulations have been done to compare the percentage of photoelectrons backscattered in P10 gas as well as in the widely used neon-based gas mixture. The performance study has been carried out using a single stage thick gas electron multiplier (THGEM). The electron pulses and electron spectrum are recorded under various operating conditions. Secondary effects prevailing in UV photon detectors like photon feedback are discussed and its effect on the electron spectrum under different operating conditions is analyzed. New molecular beam scattering experiments have been performed to measure the total ( elastic plus inelastic) cross sections as a function of the velocity in collisions between water and hydrogen sulfide projectile molecules and the methane target. Measured data have been exploited to characterize the range and strength of the intermolecular interaction in such systems, which are of relevance as they drive the gas phase molecular dynamics and the clathrate formation. Complementary information has been obtained by rotational spectra, recorded for the hydrogen sulfide-methane complex, with a pulsed nozzle Fourier transform microwave spectrometer. Extensive ab initio calculations have been performed to rationalize all the experimental findings. The combination of experimental and theoretical information has established the ground for the understanding of the nature of the interaction and allows for its basic components to be modelled, including charge transfer, in these weakly bound systems. The intermolecular potential for H2S-CH4 is significantly less anisotropic than for H2O-CH4, although both of them have potential minima that can be characterized as `hydrogen bonded'.
