When administered orally, Phyllanthus emblica, an excellent source of vitamin C (ascorbate), has been found to enhance natural killer (NK) cell activity and antibody dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC) in syngeneic BALB/c mice, bearing Dalton's lymphoma ascites (DLA) tumor. P. emblica elicited a 2-fold increase in splenic NK cell activity on day 3 post tumor inoculation. Enhanced activity was highly significant on days 3, 5, 7 and 9 after tumor inoculation with respect to the untreated tumor bearing control. A significant enhancement in ADCC was documented on days 3, 7, 9, 11 and 13 in drug treated mice as compared to the control. An increase in life span (ILS) of 35% was recorded in tumor bearing mice treated with P. emblica. This increased survival was completely abrogated when NK cell and killer (K) cell activities were depleted either by cyclophosphamide or anti-asialo-GM, antibody treatment. These results indicate: (a) an absolute requirement for a functional NK cell or K cell population in order that P. emblica can exert its effect on tumor bearing animals, and (b) the antitumor activity of P. emblica is mediated primarily through the ability of the drug to augment natural cell mediated cytotoxicity.

Streszczenie angielskie: Using solid oxide galvanic cells of the type: MnO + Sm2O3 + SmMnO3 / O-2/ Ni + NiO and Mn3O4 + SmMnO3 + SmMn2O5 / O-2 / air the equilibrium oxygen pressure for three-phase equilibria described by the following reactions of formation of ternary phases: MnO + 1/2Sm2O3 + 1/4O2 = SmMnO3 1/3Mn3O4 + SmMnO3 + 1/3O2 = SmMn2O5 was determined in the temperature range from 1173 to 1450 K. From the obtained experimental data the corresponding Gibbs free energy change for above reactions of phases formation was derived: ΔG0f,SmMnO3(+/ - 250J) = -131321(+/ - 2000) + 48.02(+/ - 0:35)T / K ΔG0f,SmMn2O5(+/ - 2000 J) = -107085(+/ - 2200) + 69.74(+/ - 1:70)T / K Using obtained results and available literature data, thermodynamic data tables for the two ternary phases have been compiled from 298.15 to 1400 K. Here, we demonstrate an uninterrupted galvanic replacement reaction (GRR) for the synthesis of metallic (Ag, Cu and Sn) and bimetallic (Cu M, M=Ag, Au, Pt and Pd) sponges/dendrites by sacrificing the low reduction potential metals (Mg in our case) in acidic medium. The acidic medium prevents the oxide formation on Mg surface and facilitates the uninterrupted reaction. The morphology of dendritic/spongy structures is controlled by the volume of acid used for this reaction. The growth mechanism of the spongy/dendritic microstructures is explained by diffusion-limited aggregate model (DLA), which is also largely affected by the volume of acid. The significance of this method is that the yield can be easily predicted, which is a major challenge for the commercialization of the products. Furthermore, the synthesis is complete in 1-2 minutes at room temperature. We show that the sponges/dendrites efficiently act as catalysts to reduce 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) to 4-aminophenol (4-AP) using NaBH4-a widely studied conversion process.
