This paper proposes a new five-level inverter topology for open-end winding induction motor (IM) drive. The popular existing circuit configurations for five-level inverter include the NPC inverter and flying capacitor topologies. Compared to the NPC inverter, the proposed topology eliminates eighteen clamping diodes having different voltage ratings in the present circuit. Moreover it requires only one capacitor bank per phase, whereas flying capacitor schemes for five level topologies require six capacitor banks per phase. The proposed topology is realized by feeding the phase winding of an open-end induction motor with two-level inverters in series with flying capacitors. The flying capacitor voltages are balanced using the switching state redundancy for full modulation range. The proposed inverter scheme is capable of producing two-level to five-level pulse width modulated voltage across the phase winding depending on the modulation range. Additionally, in case of any switch failure in the flying capacitor connection, the proposed inverter topology can be operated as a three-level inverter for full modulation range. The proposed scheme is experimentally verified on a four pole, 5hp induction motor drive.

The combustion technique produces ionically dispersed Ag on a nano-crystalline CeO2 surface. The catalysts thus produced were characterized by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Catalytic properties towards NO reduction, CO and hydrocarbon oxidation have been investigated using the temperature programmed reaction technique in a packed bed tubular reactor. These results are compared with alpha-Al2O3 supported finely divided Ag metal particles synthesized by the same method. Both oxidation and reduction reactions over Ag/CeO2 have been observed to occur at lower temperatures compared to Ag/Al2O3. The rate and turnover frequency of the NO+CO reaction over 1% Ag/CeO2 are 56.3 mu mol g(-1) s(-1) and 0.97 s(-1) at 225 degrees C respectively. Activation energy (E-a) values are 71 and 67 kJ mol(-1) for CO+O-2 and NO+CO reactions, respectively, over 1% Ag/CeO2 catalyst.

The dimensions of the ester unit, which is a component of the depsipeptide unit has been obtained by analysing the data on crystal structures of compounds having the ester unit. The dimensions indicate that this unit is slightly different from the peptide unit both as far as the bond length and bond angles are concerned.

Utilizing a circuit model [1, 2] of an induction motor, a simplified analysis of steady state performance of a voltage controlled induction motor (VCIM) drive is described in this paper. By solving a set of nonlinear algebraic equations which describe the VCIM drive under steady operation, the operating variables such as constant components of torque, rotor flux linkages, fundamental components of stator voltage and current and phase angle are obtained for any given value of slip, triggering angle and supply voltage.

We demonstrate the activity of Ce0.78Sn0.2Pt0.02O2-delta, a new catalyst, towards water-gas shift (WGS) reaction. Over 99.5% CO conversion to H-2 is observed at 300 +/- 25 degrees C. Based on different characterization techniques we found that the present catalyst is resistant to deactivation due to carbonate formation and sintering of Pt on the surface when subjected to longer duration of reaction conditions. The catalyst does not require any pre-treatment or activation between start-up/shut-down reaction operations. Formation of side products such as methane, methanol, formaldehyde, coke etc. was not observed under the WGS reaction conditions indicating the high selectivity of the catalyst for H-2. Temperature programmed reduction of the catalyst in hydrogen (H-2-TPR) shows reversible reduction of Ce4+ to Ce3+, Sn4+ to Sn2+ and Pt4+ to Pt-0 oxidation state with oxygen storage capacity (OSC) of 3500 mu mol g(-1) at 80 degrees C. Such high value of OSC indicates the presence of highly activated lattice oxygen. CO oxidation in presence of stoichiometric O-2 shows 100% conversion to CO2 at room temperature. The catalyst also exhibits 100% selectivity for CO2 at room temperature towards preferential oxidation (PROX) of residual CO in presence of excess hydrogen in the feed. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. The d.c. conductivity of phosphomolybdate and phosphotungstate glasses is discussed. The conductivity of these glasses is due to the hopping of electrons between two valence states (Mo5+ to Mo6+ or W5+ W6+). In some of the glasses, the activation energy itself is found to be a function of temperature. This appears to be due to thermally activated and variable-range hopping mechanisms operating in different temperature regimes. The relation between conductivity and the [M5+]/[Mtotal](M ≡ Mo, W) ratio does not show any systematic variation. This anomaly can be understood using the structural models of these glasses. In contrast, Mott's theory and the Triberis and Friedman model have been used to obtain conductivity parameters such as the percolation distance Rij and 2agrRij (agr is the tunnelling probability). The conductivity parameter 2agrRij is quite useful to resolve the controversy regarding the tunnelling term exp(2agrRij) existing in the literature. For low values of 2agrRij, it is shown that the exp (2agrRij) term is very significant.

This paper presents a five-level inverter scheme with four two-level inverters for a four-pole induction motor (IM) drive. In a conventional three-phase four-pole IM, there exists two identical voltage-profile winding coil groups per phase around the armature, which are connected in series and spatially apart by two pole pitches. In this paper, these two identical voltage-profile pole-pair winding coils in each phase of the IM are disconnected and fed from four two-level inverters from four sides of the windings with one-fourth dc-link voltage as compared to a conventional five-level neutral-point-clamped inverter. The scheme presented in this paper does not require any special design modification for the induction machine. For this paper, a four-pole IM drive is used, and the scheme can be easily extended to IMs with more than four poles. The proposed scheme is experimentally verified on a four-pole 5-hp IM drive.

Acetohydroxyacid synthase (AHAS) is an enzyme involved in the biosynthesis of the branched chain amino acids viz, valine, leucine and isoleucine. The activity of this enzyme is regulated through feedback inhibition by the end products of the pathway. Here we report the backbone and side-chain assignments of ilvN, the 22 kDa dimeric regulatory subunit of E. coli AHAS isoenzyme I, in the valine bound form. Detailed analysis of the structure of ilvN and its interactions with the catalytic subunit of E. coli AHAS I will help in understanding the mechanism of activation and regulation of the branched chain amino acid biosynthesis.

The optimization of a photovoltaic pumping system based on an induction motor driven pump that is powered by a solar array is presented in this paper. The motor-pump subsystem is analyzed from the point of view of optimizing the power requirement of the induction motor, which has led to an optimum u-f relationship useful in controlling the motor. The complete pumping system is implemented using a dc-dc converter, a three-phase inverter, and an induction motor-pump set. The dc-dc converter is used as a power conditioner and its duty cycle is controlled so as to match the load to the array. A microprocessor-based controller is used to carry out the load-matching.

The barrier height of MIS tunnel diodes is studied considering the effect of deep impurities. It is shown that the barrier height of a given MIS-system can be controlled by changing the density and the activation energy of the defect level. The study leads to the conclusion that deep impurities of character opposite to shallow impurities enhance the barrier height. On the other hand, the barrier height is lowered when the type of the deep impurities is the same as that of shallow impurities.

Significant destruction (68%) of liver microsomal cytochrome P-450 and homogeneous cytochrome P-450 purified from PB-treated rats is noticed upon incubation with 10 mM pulegone at 37-degrees-C for 30 min. There is also a concomitant loss of heme. The destructive phenomenon does not require metabolic activation of pulegone. The destruction of purified cytochrome P-450 is time-dependent and saturable. Structure-activity studies suggest that an alpha-isopropylidine ketone unit with a methyl positioned para to the isopropylidine group as in pulegone is necessary for the in vitro destruction of cytochrome P-450. SKF-525A at a concentration of 4-mM obliterates the destruction of cytochrome P-450 by pulegone. Experiments with C-14-pulegone suggest that pulegone or its rearranged product binds covalently to the prosthetic heme of cytochrome P-450.

In this paper, a new five-level inverter topology for open-end winding induction-motor (IM) drive is proposed. The open-end winding IM is fed from one end with a two-level inverter in series with a capacitor-fed H-bridge cell, while the other end is connected to a conventional two-level inverter. The combined inverter system produces voltage space-vector locations identical to that of a conventional five-level inverter. A total of 2744 space-vector combinations are distributed over 61 space-vector locations in the proposed scheme. With such a high number of switching state redundancies, it is possible to balance the H-bridge capacitor voltages under all operating conditions including overmodulation region. In addition to that, the proposed topology eliminates 18 clamping diodes having different voltage ratings compared with the neutral point clamped inverter. On the other hand, it requires only one capacitor bank per phase, whereas the flying-capacitor scheme for a five-level topology requires more than one capacitor bank per phase. The proposed inverter topology can be operated as a three-level inverter for full modulation range, in case of any switch failure in the capacitor-fed H-bridge cell. This will increase the reliability of the system. The proposed scheme is experimentally verified on a four-pole 5-hp IM drive.

Earlier studies in this laboratory had implicated heme to function as a positive modulator of phenobarbitonemediated activation of CYPIIB1/B2 gene transcription in rat liver. However, recent reports have indicated that succinylacetone, a specific inhibitor of δ-aminolevulinate dehydrase, does not affect this process. The present studies indicate that succinylacetone does inhibit the phenobarbitone-mediated increase in CYPIIB1/B2 mRNAs and their transcription in rat liver at early time points (45 min to 3 h), but the inhibition is not pronounced at later time points (16 h). Succinylacetone is a weaker inhibitor of heme biosynthesis than CoCl2, 3-amino-1,2,4-triazole, or thioacetamide used earlier in this laboratory. Succinylacetone induces δ-aminolevulinate synthase, whereas the other compounds depress the levels of the enzyme. There is a good correlation between the amount of freshly synthesized nuclear heme pool and the activation of CYPIIB1/B2 transcription by phenobarbitone. A model implicating a nuclear heme pool regulating the transcription of δ-aminolevulinate synthase, CYPIIB1/ B2, and heme oxygenase genes is proposed.
