A new `generalized model predictive static programming (G-MPSP)' technique is presented in this paper in the continuous time framework for rapidly solving a class of finite-horizon nonlinear optimal control problems with hard terminal constraints. A key feature of the technique is backward propagation of a small-dimensional weight matrix dynamics, using which the control history gets updated. This feature, as well as the fact that it leads to a static optimization problem, are the reasons for its high computational efficiency. It has been shown that under Euler integration, it is equivalent to the existing model predictive static programming technique, which operates on a discrete-time approximation of the problem. Performance of the proposed technique is demonstrated by solving a challenging three-dimensional impact angle constrained missile guidance problem. The problem demands that the missile must meet constraints on both azimuth and elevation angles in addition to achieving near zero miss distance, while minimizing the lateral acceleration demand throughout its flight path. Both stationary and maneuvering ground targets are considered in the simulation studies. Effectiveness of the proposed guidance has been verified by considering first order autopilot lag as well as various target maneuvers.

A new generalized model predictive static programming technique is presented for rapidly solving a class of finite-horizon nonlinear optimal control problems with hard terminal constraints. Two key features for its high computational efficiency include one-time backward integration of a small-dimensional weighting matrix dynamics, followed bya static optimization formulation that requires only a static Lagrange multiplier to update the control history. It turns out that under Euler integration and rectangular approximation of finite integrals it is equivalent to the existing model predictive static programming technique. In addition to the benchmark double integrator problem, usefulness of the proposed technique is demonstrated by solving a three-dimensional angle-constrained guidance problem for an air-to-ground missile, which demands that the missile must meet constraints on both azimuth and elevation angles at the impact point in addition to achieving near-zero miss distance, while minimizing the lateral acceleration demand throughout its flight path. Simulation studies include maneuvering ground targets along with a first-order autopilot lag. Comparison studies with classical augmented proportional navigation guidance and modern general explicit guidance lead to the conclusion that the proposed guidance is superior to both and has a larger capture region as well.

Two novel supersonic nozzles Tip Ring Supersonic Nozzle and Elliptic Sharp Tipped Shallow (ESTS) Lobed Nozzle have been developed to enhance mixing at high speeds which is beneficial to supersonic ejectors. A circular ring protruding at the exit of a conical nozzle forms the tip ring nozzle. The innovative ESTS lobed nozzle comprising of four elliptic lobes with sharp tips that do not protrude deep into the core supersonic flow is produced by a novel yet simple methodology. A comparative experimental study is conducted between a conical nozzle, an ESTS lobed nozzle and a tip ring nozzle with exit Mach number of 2.3. For the first time, the three dimensional flow structure from ESTS lobed nozzle and tip ring nozzle is revealed from laser scattering flow visualization experiments on the free jet. A doubling of jet spreading rate is observed in the ESTS lobed nozzle. When applied to a supersonic ejector, both nozzles achieve a 30% increase in entrainment of secondary flow. The loss of compression ratio is 15% for the ESTS lobed nozzle while it is 50% for the tip ring nozzle. Further, the behavior of wall static pressure profile corroborates mixing enhancement. Pyrazinoic acid, the active form of the antitubercular pro-drug Pyrazinamide, is an amphiprotic molecule containing carboxylic acid and pyridine groups and therefore can form both salts and cocrystals with relevant partner molecules. Cocrystallization of pyrazinoic acid with isomeric pyridine carboxamide series resulted in a dimorphic mixed-ionic complex with isonicotinamide and in eutectics with nicotinamide and picolinamide, respectively. It is observed that with alteration of the carboxamide position, steric and electrostatic compatibility issues between molecules of the combination emerge and affect intermolecular interactions and supramolecular growth, thus leading to either cocrystal or eutectic for different pyrazinoic acid-pyridine carboxamide combinations. Intermolecular interaction energy calculations have been performed to understand the role of underlying energetics on the formation of cocrystal/eutectic in different combinations. On the other hand, two molecular salts with piperazine and cytosine and a gallic acid cocrystal of the drug were obtained, and their X-ray crystal structures were also determined in this work.

Several papers have studied fault attacks on computing a pairing value e(P, Q), where P is a public point and Q is a secret point. In this paper, we observe that these attacks are in fact effective only on a small number of pairing-based protocols, and that too only when the protocols are implemented with specific symmetric pairings. We demonstrate the effectiveness of the fault attacks on a public-key encryption scheme, an identity-based encryption scheme, and an oblivious transfer protocol when implemented with a symmetric pairing derived from a supersingular elliptic curve with embedding degree 2.

This paper describes a university based system relevant to doctoral students who have problems with themselves, their peers and research supervisors. Doctoral students have various challenges to solve and these challenges contribute to delays in their thesis submission. This tool aims at helping them think through their problem in a pre-counseling stage. The tool uses narratives and hypothetical stories to walk a doctoral student through options of responses he or she can make given the situation in the narrative. Narratives were developed after a preliminary survey (n=57) of doctoral students. The survey indicated that problems they experienced were: busy supervisors, negative competition from peers and laziness with self. The narrative scenarios in the tool prompt self-reflection and provide for options to chose from leading to the next scenario that will ensue. The different stages of the stimulus-response cycles are designed based on Thomas-Kilmann conflict resolution techniques (collaboration and avoidance). Each stimulus-response cycle has a score attached that reflects the student's ability to judge a collaborative approach. At the end of all the stages a scorecard is generated indicating either a progressive or regressive outcome of thesis submission.

We hypothesized that the AAV2 vector is targeted for destruction in the cytoplasm by the host cellular kinase/ubiquitination/proteasomal machinery and that modification of their targets on AAV2 capsid may improve its transduction efficiency. In vitro analysis with pharmacological inhibitors of cellular serine/threonine kinases (protein kinase A, protein kinase C, casein kinase II) showed an increase (20-90%) on AAV2-mediated gene expression. The three-dimensional structure of AAV2 capsid was then analyzed to predict the sites of ubiquitination and phosphorylation. Three phosphodegrons, which are the phosphorylation sites recognized as degradation signals by ubiquitin ligases, were identified. Mutation targets comprising eight serine (S) or seven threonine (T) or nine lysine (K) residues were selected in and around phosphodegrons on the basis of their solvent accessibility, overlap with the receptor binding regions, overlap with interaction interfaces of capsid proteins, and their evolutionary conservation across AAV serotypes. AAV2-EGFP vectors with the wild-type (WT) capsid or mutant capsids (15 S/T -> alanine A] or 9 K -> arginine R] single mutant or 2 double K -> R mutants) were then evaluated in vitro. The transduction efficiencies of 11 S/T -> A and 7 K -> R vectors were significantly higher (similar to 63-90%) than the AAV2-WT vectors (similar to 30-40%). Further, hepatic gene transfer of these mutant vectors in vivo resulted in higher vector copy numbers (up to 4.9-fold) and transgene expression (up to 14-fold) than observed from the AAV2-WT vector. One of the mutant vectors, S489A, generated similar to 8-fold fewer antibodies that could be cross-neutralized by AAV2-WT. This study thus demonstrates the feasibility of the use of these novel AAV2 capsid mutant vectors in hepatic gene therapy.

The problem of cooperative beamforming for maximizing the achievable data rate of an energy constrained two-hop amplify-and-forward (AF) network is considered. Assuming perfect channel state information (CSI) of all the nodes, we evaluate the optimal scaling factor for the relay nodes. Along with individual power constraint on each of the relay nodes, we consider a weighted sum power constraint. The proposed iterative algorithm initially solves a set of relaxed problems with weighted sum power constraint and then updates the solution to accommodate individual constraints. These relaxed problems in turn are solved using a sequence of Quadratic Eigenvalue Problems (QEP). The key contribution of this letter is the generalization of cooperative beamforming to incorporate both the individual and weighted sum constraint. Furthermore, we have proposed a novel algorithm based on Quadratic Eigenvalue Problem (QEP) and discussed its convergence.

Nanocrystalline Mn0.4Zn0.6SmxGdyFe2-(x+y)O4 (x = y = 0.01, 0.02, 0.03, 0.04 and 0.05) were synthesized by combustion route. The detailed structural studies were carried out through X-ray diffractometer (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The results confirms the formation of mixed spine phase with cubic structure due to the distortion created with co-dopants substitution at Fe site in Mn-Zn ferrite lattice. Further, the crystallite size increases with an increase of Sm3+-Gd3+ ions concentration while lattice parameter and lattice strain decreases. Furthermore, the effect of Sm-Gd co-doping in Mn-Zn ferrite on the room temperature electrical (dielectric studies) studies were carried out in the wide frequency range 1 GHz-5 GHz. The magnetic studies were carried out using vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) under applied magnetic field of 1.5T and also room temperature electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectra's were recorded. From the results of dielectric studies, it shows that the real and imaginary part of permittivities are increasing with variation of Gd3+ and Sm3+ concentration. The magnetic studies reveal the decrease of remnant, saturation magnetization and coercivity with increasing of Sm3+-Gd3+ ion concentration. The g-value, peak-to-peak line width and spin concentration evaluated from EPR spectra correlated with cations occupancy. The electromagnetic properties clearly indicate that these materials are the good candidates which are useful at L and C band frequency. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
