The high-kappa gate dielectrics, specifically amorphous films offer salient features such as exceptional mechanical flexibility, smooth surfaces and better uniformity associated with low leakage current density. In this work, similar to 35 nm thick amorphous ZrO2 films were deposited on silicon substrate at low temperature (300 degrees C, 1 h) from facile spin-coating method and characterized by various analytical techniques. The X-ray diffraction and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy reveal the formation of amorphous phase ZrO2, while ellipsometry analysis together with the Atomic Force Microscope suggest the formation of dense film with surface roughness of 1.5 angstrom, respectively. The fabricated films were integrated in metal-oxide-semiconductor (MOS) structures to check the electrical capabilities. The oxide capacitance (C-ox), flat band capacitance (C-FB), flat band voltage (V-FB), dielectric constant (kappa) and oxide trapped charges (Q(ot)) extracted from high frequency (1 MHz) C-V curve are 186 pF, 104 pF, 0.37V, 15 and 2 x 10(-11) C, respectively. The small flat band voltage 0.37V, narrow hysteresis and very little frequency dispersion between 10 kHz-1 MHz suggest an excellent a-ZrO2/Si interface with very less trapped charges in the oxide. The films exhibit a low leakage current density 4.7 x 10(-9)A/cm(2) at 1V. In addition, the charge transport mechanism across the MOSC is analyzed and found to have a strong bias dependence. The space charge limited conduction mechanism is dominant in the high electric field region (1.3-5 V) due to the presence of traps, while the trap-supported tunneling is prevailed in the intermediate region (0.35-1.3 V). Low temperature solution processed ZrO2 thin films obtained are of high quality and find their importance as a potential dielectric layer on Si and polymer based flexible electronics. The crystal structure of the N,N,N',N'-tetramethylethylenediammonium dithiocyanate salt has been examined by experimental charge density studies from high-resolution X-ray diffraction data. The corresponding results are compared with multipole refinements, using theoretical structure factors obtained from a periodic density functional theory calculation at the B3LYP level with a 6-31G** basis set. The salt crystallizes in space group P (1) over bar and contains only a single ion pair with an inversion center in the cation. The salt has thus one unique classical N+-H center dot center dot center dot(NCS)(-) hydrogen bond but also has six other weaker interactions: four C-H center dot center dot center dot S, one C-H center dot center dot center dot N, and one C-H center dot center dot center dot C-pi. The nature of all these interactions has been examined topologically using Bader's quantum theory of "atoms in molecules" and all eight of the Koch-Popelier criteria. The experimental and theoretical approaches agree well and both show that the inter-ion interactions, even in this simplest of systems, play an integrated and complex role in the packing of the ions in the crystal. Electrostatic potential maps are derived from experimental charge densities. This is the first time such a system has been examined in detail by these methods.

Phase-singular solid solutions of La0.6Sr0.4Mn1-yMeyO3 (0 <= y <= 0.3) [Me=Li1+, Mg2+, Al3+, Ti4+, Nb5+, Mo6+ or W6+] [LSMey] perovskite of rhombohedral symmetry (space group: R (3) over barc) have been prepared wherein the valence of the diamagnetic substituent at Mn site ranged from 1 to 6. With increasing y-content in LSMey, the metal-insulator (TM-I) transition in resistivity-temperature rho(T) curves shifted to low temperatures. The magnetization studies M(H) as well as the M(T) indicated two groups for LSMey. (1) Group A with Me=Mg, Al, Ti, or Nb which are paramagnetic insulators (PIs) at room temperature with low values of M (< 0.5 mu(B)/Mn); the magnetic transition [ferromagnetic insulator (FMI)-PI] temperature (T-C) shifts to low temperatures and nearly coincides with that of TM-I and the maximum magnetoresistance (MR) of similar to 50% prevails near T-C (approximate to TM-I). (2) Group-B samples with Me=Li, Mo, or W which are FMIs with M-s=3.3-3.58 mu(B)/Mn and marginal reduction in T-C similar to 350 K as compared to the undoped LSMO (T-C similar to 378 K). The latter samples show large temperature differences Delta T=T-c-TM-I, reaching up to similar to 288 K. The maximum MR (similar to 60%) prevails at low temperatures corresponding to the M-I transition TM-I rather than around T-C. High resolution lattice images as well as microscopy analysis revealed the prevalence of inhomogeneous phase mixtures of randomly distributed charge ordered-insulating (COI) bistripes (similar to 3-5 nm width) within FMI charge-disordered regions, yet maintaining crystallographically single phase with no secondary precipitate formation. The averaged ionic radius < r(B)>, valency, or charge/radius ratio < CRR > cannot be correlated with that of large Delta T; hence cannot be used to parametrize the discrepancy between T-C and TM-I. The M-I transition is controlled by the charge conduction within the electronically heterogeneous mixtures (COI bistripes+FMI charge disordered); large MR at TM-I suggests that the spin-ordered FM-insulating regions assist the charge transport, whereas the T-C is associated with the bulk spin ordered regions corresponding to the FMI phase of higher volume fraction of which anchors the T-C to higher temperatures. The present analysis showed that the double-exchange model alone cannot account for the wide bifurcation of the magnetic and electric transitions, contributions from the charge as well as lattice degrees of freedom to be separated from spin/orbital ordering. The heterogeneous phase mixtures (COI+FMI) cannot be treated as of granular composite behavior. (c) 2008 American Institute of Physics.

Promethazine picrate (C23H23N5O7S) crystallises in the triclinic space group P[unk] with a = 8.137(1), b = 8.144(3), c = 19.224(6) Å, α = 87.78(3), β = 79.97(2), γ = 70.57(2)° and two molecules per unit cell. The structure was solved by direct methods (MULTAN 80) using 2438 observed reflections [I > 2.5 σ(I)]. Refinement was carried out by block-diagonal least-squares methods to a final R = 0.052. The picrate group is planar and is almost perpendicular to the promethazine plane. The two groups are joined by a hydrogen bond. The pairs of molecules related by a centre of symmetry make a molecular arrangement where promethazine and picrate groups are packed in sheets in three dimensions.

The modularity of the supramolecular synthon is used to obtain transferability of charge density derived multipolar parameters for structural fragments, thus creating an opportunity to derive charge density maps for new compounds. On the basis of high resolution X-ray diffraction data obtained at 100 K for three compounds methoxybenzoic acid, acetanilide, and 4-methyl-benzoic acid, multipole parameters for O-H center dot center dot center dot O carboxylic acid dimer and N-H center dot center dot center dot O amide infinite chain synthon fragments have been derived. The robustness associated with these supramolecular synthons has been used to model charge density derived multipolar parameters for 4-(acetylamino)benzoic acid and 4-methylacetanilide. The study provides pointers to the design and fabrication of a synthon library of high resolution X-ray diffraction data sets. It has been demonstrated that the derived charge density features can be exploited in both intra- and intermolecular space for any organic compound based on transferability of multipole parameters. The supramolecular synthon based fragments approach (SBFA) has been compared with experimental charge density data to check the reliability of use of this methodology for transferring charge density derived multipole parameters.

Potassium disilicate glass and melt have been investigated by using a new partial charge based potential model in which nonbridging oxygens are differentiated from bridging oxygens by their charges. The model reproduces the structural data pertaining to the coordination polyhedra around potassium and the various bond angle distributions excellently. The dynamics of the glass has been studied by using space and time correlation functions. It is found that K ions migrate by a diffusive mechanism in the melt and by hops below the glass transition temperature. They are also found to migrate largely through nonbridging oxygenrich sites in the silicate matrix, thus providing support to the predictions of the modified random network model.

In this paper, a multilevel flying capacitor inverter topology suitable for generating multilevel dodecagonal space vectors for an induction motor drive, is proposed. Because of the dodecagonal space vectors, it has increased modulation range with the absence of all 6n +/- 1, (n=odd) harmonics in the phase voltage and currents. The topology, realized by flying capacitor three level inverters feeding an open-end winding induction motor, does not suffer the neutral point voltage imbalance issues seen in NPC inverters and the capacitors have inherent charge-balancing capability with PWM control using switching state redundancies. Furthermore, the proposed technique uses lesser number of power supplies compared to cascaded H-bridge or NPC based dodecagonal schemes and has better ride-through capability. Finally, the voltage control is obtained through a simple carrier-based space vector PWM scheme implemented on a DSP.

The layered double hydroxides (LDH) or anionic clays are an important class of ion-exchange materials. They consist of positively charged brucite-like inorganic sheets with charge-compensating exchangeable anions in the interlamellar space. Here we show how neutral TCNQ (7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane) molecules can be included within the galleries of an LDH. To do so, we exploit the fact that TCNQ is a good electron acceptor that forms donor acceptor complexes with a variety of donors. The electron donor aniline was intercalated into a Mg-Al LDH as p-aminobenzoate (AB) ions by a conventional ion-exchange reaction. We show here that neutral TCNQ molecules may be driven into the galleries of the layered solid by charge-transfer complex formation with the intercalated p-aminobenzoate anions. We use diffraction and spectroscopic measurements in combination with molecular dynamics simulations and quantum chemical calculations to establish the nature of interactions and arrangement of the charge-transfer complex within the galleries of the layered double hydroxide. Electrostatic interactions between the TCNQ molecules and the anchored AB ions, subsequent to charge transfer, are the driving force for the inclusion of TCNQ molecules in the galleries of the LDH.

We revisit the constraints on the parameter space of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM), from charge and color breaking minima in the light of information on the Higgs from the LHC so far. We study the behavior of the scalar potential keeping two light sfermion fields along with the Higgs in the pMSSM framework and analyze the stability of the vacuum. We find that for lightest stops a parts per thousand(2) 1 TeV and small mu a parts per thousand(2) 500 GeV, the absolute stability of the potential can be attained only for . The bounds become stronger for larger values of the mu parameter. Note that this is approximately the value of Xt which maximizes the Higgs mass. Our bounds on the low scale MSSM parameters are more stringent than those reported earlier in literature. We reanalyze the stau sector as well, keeping both staus. We study the connections between the observed Higgs rates and vacuum (meta)stability. We show how a precision study of the ratio of signal strengths, (mu (gamma gamma) /mu (ZZ) ) can shed further light.

In this article, we have presented ultrafast charge transfer dynamics through halogen bonds following vertical ionization of representative halogen bonded clusters. Subsequent hole directed reactivity of the radical cations of halogen bonded clusters is also discussed. Furthermore, we have examined effect of the halogen bond strength on the electron-electron correlation-and relaxation-driven charge migration in halogen bonded complexes. For this study, we have selected A-Cl (A represents F, OH, CN, NH2, CF3, and COOH substituents) molecules paired with NH3 (referred as ACl:NH3 complex): these complexes exhibit halogen bonds. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on purely electron correlation-and relaxation-driven ultrafast (attosecond) charge migration dynamics through halogen bonds. Both density functional theory and complete active space self-consistent field theory with 6-31+G(d, p) basis set are employed for this work. Upon vertical ionization of NCCl center dot center dot center dot NH3 complex, the hole is predicted to migrate from the NH3-end to the ClCN-end of the NCCl center dot center dot center dot NH3 complex in approximately 0.5 fs on the D-0 cationic surface. This hole migration leads to structural rearrangement of the halogen bonded complex, yielding hydrogen bonding interaction stronger than the halogen bonding interaction on the same cationic surface. Other halogen bonded complexes, such as H2NCl:NH3, F3CCl:NH3, and HOOCCl:NH3, exhibit similar charge migration following vertical ionization. On the contrary, FCl:NH3 and HOCl:NH3 complexes do not exhibit any charge migration following vertical ionization to the D-0 cation state, pointing to interesting halogen bond strength-dependent charge migration. This work grew out of an attempt to understand a conjectural remark made by Professor Kyoji Saito to the author about a possible link between the Fox-calculus description of the symplectic structure on the moduli space of representations of the fundamental group of surfaces into a Lie group and pairs of mutually dual sets of generators of the fundamental group. In fact in his paper [3] , Prof. Kyoji Saito gives an explicit description of the system of dual generators of the fundamental group.

Asymmetric tri-bridged diruthenium(III) complexes, [Ru2O(O(2)CR)(3)(en) (PPh(3))(2)](ClO4) (R = C6H4-p-X: X = OMe (1a), Me (1b); en=1,2-diaminoethane), were prepared and structurally characterized. Complex 1a 3CHCl(3), crystallizes in the triclinic space group P (1) over bar with a = 14.029(5), b = 14.205(5), c = 20.610(6) Angstrom, alpha= 107.26(3), beta = 101.84(3), gamma= 97.57(3)degrees, V= 3756(2) Angstrom(3) and Z = 2. The complex has an {Ru-2(mu-O)(mu-O(2)CR)(2)(2+)} core and exhibits [O4PRu(mu-O)RuPO2N2](+) coordination environments for the metal centers. The novel structural feature is the asymmetric arrangement of ligands at the terminal sites of the core which shows an Ru... Ru separation of 3.226(3) Angstrom and an Ru-O-Ru angle of 119.2(5)degrees. An intense visible band observed near 570 nm is assigned to a charge transfer transition involving the d pi-Ru(III) and p pi-mu-O Orbitals. Cyclic voltammetry of the complexes displays a reversible Ru-2(III,III) reversible arrow Ru-2(III,IV) couple near 0.8 V (versus SCE) in MeCN-0.1 M TBAP.

For point to point multiple input multiple output systems, Dayal-Brehler-Varanasi have proved that training codes achieve the same diversity order as that of the underlying coherent space time block code (STBC) if a simple minimum mean squared error estimate of the channel formed using the training part is employed for coherent detection of the underlying STBC. In this letter, a similar strategy involving a combination of training, channel estimation and detection in conjunction with existing coherent distributed STBCs is proposed for noncoherent communication in Amplify-and-Forward (AF) relay networks. Simulation results show that the proposed simple strategy outperforms distributed differential space-time coding for AF relay networks. Finally, the proposed strategy is extended to asynchronous relay networks using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing.

A detailed investigation of Y0.5Ca0.5MnO3 with a very small radius of the A-site cations ([r(A)] approximate to 1.13 Angstrom reveals the occurrence of a charge-ordering transition in the paramagnetic state, at a relatively high temperature of 260 K. The orthorhombic lattice distortion, as measured by the dimensionless index D, is large (similar to 1.75%) over the entire 300-100 K range, but the antiferromagnetic interactions become prominent only at low temperatures (< 160 K). The charge-ordering gap in Y0.5Ca0.5MnO3, measured by low-temperature vacuum tunnelling spectroscopy, is large (similar to 0.5 eV) and the charge-ordered state is unaffected by the application of a magnetic field of 6 T. The study indicates that the nature of charge-ordering in Y0.5Ca0.5MnO3 which is dominated by the cooperative Jahn-Teller effect and the associated lattice distortion is distinctly different from analogous manganates with larger [r(A)].
