A one pot synthesis of 6-alkylsalicylates and 6-alkyl-2,4- dihydroxybenzoates is described. Cycloaddition of 1-methoxycyclohexa-1,4- or 1,3-dienes with alkylpropiolic esters results in the regio-specific formation of 2-alkyl-6-methoxybenzoates. Thus, methyl 2-methoxy-6-methyl benzoate, methyl 2,4-dimethoxy-6-methylbenzoate, methyl 2,5-dimethoxy-6-methylbenzoate, methyl 2-methoxy-4,6-dimethylbenzoate, and ethyl 2-butyl-4,6-dimethoxybenzoate, have been prepared. By making use of this method, the synthesis of two dihydroisocoumarins namely (±)-mellein (12) and (±)-6-methoxy- mellein (14) is described. Employing a similar strategy, a novel route to 2,5-dialkylresorcinols has been developed. Stemphol (24b) and the antibiotic DB2073 (24d) have been synthesized.

There are two independent molecules in the asymmetric unit of the title compound, C11H9Cl2N, both of which are essentially planar [maximum deviations of 0.072 (5) and 0.072 (7) angstrom]. In the crystal structure, weak pi-pi stacking interactions [centroid-centroid distances = 3.791 (3) angstrom and 3.855 (3) angstrom] link pairs of molecules.

Single crystals of a symmetrically substituted molecule, 1,3,5-triazine-2,4,6-triaminehexaacetic acid, (TTHA) and its Ca2+ salt have been synthesized, the analysis of which reveals the existence of novel channel type cavities and helical packing organizations in the crystals.

2,4-Lutidine-1-oxide (2,4-LutO) complexes of lanthanide perchlorates of the formulae Ln2(2,4-LutO)13(ClO4)6 (Ln = Pr and Nd) and Ln2(2,4-LutO)15 (ClO4)6 (Ln = La, Tb, Dy, Ho and Yb) have been prepared and characterised by chemical analysis, IR, NMR, conductance and electronic spectral data. Proton NMR data along with the IR data show that the ligand coordinates to the metal ion through the oxygen. Conductance data of the complexes in acetone and nitrobenzene indicate that the perchlorate is not coordinated to the metal ion.

The title compound, C18H16N2O, crystallizes in the triclinic space group P1, with four independent molecules in the asymmetric unit wherein two molecules have an irregular -ac, -ac, +ap conformation (ap, antiperiplanar; ac, anticlinal), while the other molecules exhibit a different, +ac, +ac, +ap conformation. The planar (r.m.s. deviation = 0.006 A in each of the four molecules) quinoline ring systems of the four molecules are oriented at dihedral angles of 32.8 (2), 33.4 (2), 31.7 (2) and 32.3 (2)degrees with respect to the benzene rings. Intramolecular N-H...N interactions occur in all four independent molecules. The crystal packing is stabilized by intermolecular N-H...O and C-H...O hydrogen bonds, and are further consolidated by C-H...pi and pi-pi stacking interactions centroid-centroid distances = 3.728 (3), 3.722 (3), 3.758 (3) and 3.705 (3) A].

Separated Local Field (SLF) spectroscopy is a powerful tool for the determination of structure and dynamics of oriented systems such as membrane proteins oriented in lipid bilayers and liquid crystals. Of many SLF techniques available, Polarization Inversion Spin Exchange at Magic Angle (PISEMA) has found wide application due to its many favorable characteristics. However the pulse sequence suffers from its sensitivity to proton resonance frequency offset. Recently we have proposed a new sequence named 2(4)-SEMA (J. Chem. Phys. 132 (2010) 134301) that overcomes this problem of PISEMA. The present work demonstrates the advantage of 2(4)-SEMA as a highly sensitive SLF technique even for very large proton offset. 2(4)-SEMA has been designed for obtaining reliable dipolar couplings by switching the magic-angle spin-lock for protons over four quadrants as against the use of only two quadrants in PISEMA. It is observed that for on-resonance condition, 2(4)-SEMA gives rise to signal intensity comparable to or slightly higher than that from PISEMA. But under off-resonance conditions, intensities from 2(4)-SEMA are several fold higher than those from PISEMA. Comparison with another offset compensated pulse sequence, SAMPI4, also indicates a better intensity profile for 2(4)-SEMA. Experiments carried out on a single crystal of N-15 labeled N-acetyl-DL-valine and simulations have been used to study the relative performance of the pulse sequences considered. In the cation of the title compound, C14H13N2S+center dot Br-, the essentially planar benzimidazole system (r.m.s. deviation = 0.0082 angstrom) is substituted with a 4-methylsulfanylphenyl ring. The dihedral angle between the benzimidazole system and the 4-methylsulfanylphenyl ring is 2.133 (2)degrees. The crystal structure is characterized by strong and highly directional intermolecular N-H center dot center dot center dot Br hydrogen bonds involving the bromide ion. Moreover, C-H center dot center dot center dot S interactions result in chains of molecules along the c axis. The supramolecular assembly is further stabilized by pi-pi stacking interactions between the benzimidazole system and 4-methylsulfanylphenyl rings centroid-centroid distance = 3.477 (4) angstrom].

In the racemic title compound, [PtCl2(C23H20NO2P)-(C6H15P)].CH2Cl2, the platinum(II) ion, which has approximately square-planar coordination geometry, is coordinated to two different monophosphorus ligands in a cis arrangement along with two chloride ions. A significant shortening of the P-N bond [1.604(7) Angstrom] relative to that in phosphinoamines and their complexes was observed.

The asymmetric unit of the title compound, (C14H13N2S)(2)CuBr4]center dot 2H(2)O, contains two cations, one anion and two solvent water molecules that are connected via O-H center dot center dot center dot Br, N-H center dot center dot center dot Br and N-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonds into a two-dimensional polymeric structure. The cations are arranged in a head-to-tail fashion and form stacks along 100]. The central Cu-II atom of the anion is in a distorted tetrahedral environment.

In the title molecule, C(16)H(15)ClO(4)S, the chlorothiophene and trimethoxyphenyl rings make a dihedral angle of 31.12 (5)degrees. The C = C double bond exhibits an E conformation. In the crystal, C-H center dot center dot center dot O interactions generate bifurcated bonds, linking the molecules into chains along the b axis.

We propose a Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) architecture for power scalable receiver front end (FE) for Zigbee. The motivation for power scalable receiver is to enable minimum power operation while meeting the run-time performance needed. We use simple models to find empirical relations between the available signal and interference levels to come up with required Noise Figure (NF) and 3rd order Intermodulation Product (IIP3) numbers. The architecture has two independent digital knobs to control the NF and IIP3. Acceptable input match while using adaptation has been achieved by using an Active Inductor configuration for the source degeneration inductor of the LNA. The low IF receiver front end (LNA with I and Q mixers) was fabricated in 130nm RFCMOS process and tested.
