Context sensitive pointer analyses based on Whaley and Lam’s bddbddb system have been shown to scale to large Java programs. We provide a technique to incorporate flow sensitivity for Java fields into one such analysis and obtain an escape analysis based on it. First, we express an intraprocedural field flow sensitive analysis, using Fink et al.’s Heap Array SSA form in Datalog. We then extend this analysis interprocedurally by introducing two new φ functions for Heap Array SSA Form and adding deduction rules corresponding to them. Adding a few more rules gives us an escape analysis. We describe two types of field flow sensitivity: partial (PFFS) and full (FFFS), the former without strong updates to fields and the latter with strong updates. We compare these analyses with two different (field flow insensitive) versions of Whaley-Lam analysis: one of which is flow sensitive for locals (FS) and the other, flow insensitive for locals (FIS). We have implemented this analysis on the bddbddb system while using the SOOT open source framework as a front end. We have run our analysis on a set of 15 Java programs. Our experimental results show that the time taken by our field flow sensitive analyses is comparable to that of the field flow insensitive versions while doing much better in some cases. Our PFFS analysis achieves average reductions of about 23% and 30% in the size of the points-to sets at load and store statements respectively and discovers 71% more “caller-captured” objects than FIS.

Image fusion is a formal framework which is expressed as means and tools for the alliance of multisensor, multitemporal, and multiresolution data. Multisource data vary in spectral, spatial and temporal resolutions necessitating advanced analytical or numerical techniques for enhanced interpretation capabilities. This paper reviews seven pixel based image fusion techniques - intensity-hue-saturation, brovey, high pass filter (HPF), high pass modulation (HPM), principal component analysis, fourier transform and correspondence analysis.Validation of these techniques on IKONOS data (Panchromatic band at I m spatial resolution and Multispectral 4 bands at 4 in spatial resolution) reveal that HPF and HPM methods synthesises the images closest to those the corresponding multisensors would observe at the high resolution level.

Three model dipeptides containing a dehydroalanine residue (Ala) at the C-terminal, Boc-X-Ala-NHCH3 [X = Ala, Val, and Phe,] have been synthesized and their solution conformations investigated by 1H-NMR, IR, and CD spectroscopy. NMR studies on these peptides in CDCl3 clearly indicate that the NH group of dehydroalanine is involved in an intramolecular hydrogen bond. This conclusion is supported by IR studies also. Nuclear Overhauser effect (NOE) studies are also accommodative of an inverse -turn-type of conformation that is characterised by conformational angles of -70° and +70° around the X residue, and a C[stack i+1 ]H-Ni+2H interproton distance of 2.5 Å. It appears that unlike dehydrophenylalanine or dehydroleucine, which tend to stabilize -turn type of structures occupying the i + 2 position of the turn, dehydroalanine favors the formation of an inverse -turn, centered at the proceeding L-residue in such solvents as CDCl3 and (CD3)2SO. A comparison of solution conformation of Boc Val-Ala-NHCH3 with the corresponding saturated analogue, Boc-Val-Ala-NHCH3, is also presented and shows that dehydroalanine is responsible for inducing the turn structure. It may be possible to design peptides with different preferred conformations using the suitable dehydroamino acid.

This paper presents a study of kinematic and force singularities in parallel manipulators and closed-loop mechanisms and their relationship to accessibility and controllability of such manipulators and closed-loop mechanisms, Parallel manipulators and closed-loop mechanisms are classified according to their degrees of freedom, number of output Cartesian variables used to describe their motion and the number of actuated joint inputs. The singularities in the workspace are obtained by considering the force transformation matrix which maps the forces and torques in joint space to output forces and torques ill Cartesian space. The regions in the workspace which violate the small time local controllability (STLC) and small time local accessibility (STLA) condition are obtained by deriving the equations of motion in terms of Cartesian variables and by using techniques from Lie algebra. We show that for fully actuated manipulators when the number ofactuated joint inputs is equal to the number of output Cartesian variables, and the force transformation matrix loses rank, the parallel manipulator does not meet the STLC requirement. For the case where the number of joint inputs is less than the number of output Cartesian variables, if the constraint forces and torques (represented by the Lagrange multipliers) become infinite, the force transformation matrix loses rank. Finally, we show that the singular and non-STLC regions in the workspace of a parallel manipulator and closed-loop mechanism can be reduced by adding redundant joint actuators and links. The results are illustrated with the help of numerical examples where we plot the singular and non-STLC/non-STLA regions of parallel manipulators and closed-loop mechanisms belonging to the above mentioned classes. Copper(II) hydrazine carboxylate monohydrate, Cu(N2H3COO)2·H2O and chromium (II, III) hydrazine carboxylate hydrates, Cu(N2H3COO)2·H2O and Cu(N2H3COO)2·3H2O have been prepared and characterised by chemical analysis, IR, visible spectra and magnetic measurements. Thermal analysis of the copper complex yields a mixture of copper metal and copper oxide. Chromium complexes on thermal decomposition yield Cr2O3 as residue. Decomposition of chromium(HI) complex under hydrothermal conditions yield CrOOH, a precursor to CrO2.

The objective of the present paper is to select the best compromise irrigation planning strategy for the case study of Jayakwadi irrigation project, Maharashtra, India. Four-phase methodology is employed. In phase 1, separate linear programming (LP) models are formulated for the three objectives, namely. net economic benefits, agricultural production and labour employment. In phase 2, nondominated (compromise) irrigation planning strategies are generated using the constraint method of multiobjective optimisation. In phase 3, Kohonen neural networks (KNN) based classification algorithm is employed to sort nondominated irrigation planning strategies into smaller groups. In phase 4, multicriterion analysis (MCA) technique, namely, Compromise Programming is applied to rank strategies obtained from phase 3. It is concluded that the above integrated methodology is effective for modeling multiobjective irrigation planning problems and the present approach can be extended to situations where number of irrigation planning strategies are even large in number. A method for total risk analysis of embankment dams under earthquake conditions is discussed and applied to the selected embankment dams, i.e., Chang, Tapar, Rudramata, and Kaswati located in the Kachchh region of Gujarat, India, to obtain the seismic hazard rating of the dam site and the risk rating of the structures. Based on the results of the total risk analysis of the dams, coupled non-linear dynamic numerical analyses of the dam sections are performed using acceleration time history record of the Bhuj (India) earthquake as well as five other major earthquakes recorded worldwide. The objective of doing so is to perform the numerical analysis of the dams for the range of amplitude, frequency content and time duration of input motions. The deformations calculated from the numerical analyses are also compared with other approaches available in literature, viz, Makdisi and Seed (1978) approach, Jansen's approach (1990), Swaisgood's method (1995), Bureau's method (1997). Singh et al. approach (2007), and Saygili and Rathje approach (2008) and the results are utilized to foresee the stability of dams in future earthquake scenario. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. Four model dipeptides containing a Z-dehydrophenylalanine residue (ΔZPhe) at the C-terminal, Boc-X-ΔZ Phe-NHMe (X = Ala (1), Gly (2), Pro (3), and Val (4)), have been synthesised and their solution conformations investigated by 270 MHz 1H n.m.r. and i.r. spectroscopy. N.m.r. studies on these peptides clearly show the presence of intramolecularly hydrogen bonded structures in CHCl3 solutions while such structures appear to be absent in the corresponding saturated peptides. This conclusion is also supported by i.r. studies. Studies of the nuclear Overhauser effect provided evidence for the occurrence of a significant population of β-turn structures in solvents like CDCl3 and (CD3)2SO. The observed NOES are consistent with a major contribution from Type II β-turn structure in CDCl3, while in (CD3)2SO solutions there is evidence of a partially extended structure also.

Quantum mechanical calculations at all valence complete neglect of differential overlap (CNDO/2) and self-consistent charge extend Huckel (SCC-EH) and the Pi electron Pariser-Parr-Pople with limited configuration interaction (PPP-LCI) levels of approximation have been accomplished for monothiobiuret and dithiobiuret. From the calculated results, a discussion of the electronic structure, photoelectron and electronic spectra and the conformational stability are given. The electronic and1H nmr spectra are also reported. A trans-cis-CONHCS-structure is found to be the stable conformation for monothiobiuret consistent with other evidences.

Mechanical joints in composites can be tailored to achieve improved performance and better life by appropriately selecting the laminate parameters. In order to gain the best advantage of this possibility of tailoring the laminate, it is necessary to understand the influence of laminate parameters on the behaviour of joints in composites. Most of the earlier studies in this direction were based on simplified assumptions regarding load transfer at the pin-plate interface and such studies were only carried out on orthotropic and quasi-isotropic laminates. In the present study, a more rigorous analysis is carried out to study pin joints in laminates with anisotropic properties. Two types of laminates with (0/ + ?4/90)s and (0/ ± ?2/90)s layups made out of graphite epoxy T300/5208 material system are considered. The analysis mainly concentrates on clearance fit in which the pin is of smaller diameter compared to the hole. The main aspect of the analysis of pin joints is the changing contact between the pin and the plate with increasing load levels. The analysis is carried out by an iterative finite element technique and a computationally efficient routine is developed for this purpose. Numerical studies indicate that the location and magnitude of the peak stresses along the hole boundary are functions of fibre angle and the overall anisotropic properties. It is also shown that the conventional assumption of cosine distribution for the contact pressure between pin and the plate in the analysis lead to underestimation of bearing failure load and overestimation of shear and tensile failure loads in typical (0/905)s cross-ply laminates.

A performance prediction procedure is presented for low specific speed submersible pumps with a review of loss models given in the literature. Most of the loss theories discussed in this paper are one dimensional and improvements are made with good empiricism for the prediction to cover the entire range of operation of the low specific speed pumps. Loss correlations, particularly in the low flow range, are discussed. Prediction of the shape of efficiency-capacity and total head-capacity curves agrees well with the experimental results in almost the full range of operating conditions. The approach adopted in the present analysis, of estimating the losses in the individual components of a pump, provides means for improving the performance and identifying the problem areas in existing designs of the pumps. The investigation also provides a basis for selection of parameters for the optimal design of the pumps in which the maximum efficiency is an important design parameter. The scope for improvement in the prediction procedure with the nature of flow phenomena in the low flow region has been discussed in detail.

Experiments have repeatedly observed both thermodynamic and dynamic anomalies in aqueous binary mixtures, surprisingly at low solute concentration. Examples of such binary mixtures include water-DMSO, water-ethanol, water-tertiary butyl alcohol (TBA), and water-dioxane, to name a few. The anomalies have often been attributed to the onset of a structural transition, whose nature, however, has been left rather unclear. Here we study the origin of such anomalies using large scale computer simulations and theoretical analysis in water-DMSO binary mixture. At very low DMSO concentration (below 10%), small aggregates of DMSO are solvated by water through the formation of DMSO-(H2O)(2) moieties. As the concentration is increased beyond 10-12% of DMSO, spanning clusters comprising the same moieties appear in the system. Those clusters are formed and stabilized not only through H-bonding but also through the association of CH3 groups of DMSO. We attribute the experimentally observed anomalies to a continuum percolation-like transition at DMSO concentration X-DMSO approximate to 12-15%. The largest cluster size of CH3-CH3 aggregation clearly indicates the formation of such percolating clusters. As a result, a significant slowing down is observed in the decay of associated rotational auto time correlation functions (of the S = O bond vector of DMSO and O-H bond vector of water). Markedly unusual behavior in the mean square fluctuation of total dipole moment again suggests a structural transition around the same concentration range. Furthermore, we map our findings to an interacting lattice model which substantiates the continuum percolation model as the reason for low concentration anomalies in binary mixtures where the solutes involved have both hydrophilic and hydrophobic moieties.
