Ni0.4Zn0.2Mn0.4Fe2O4 nanopowders were prepared by auto-combustion method. The as-synthesized powders were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and thermo-gravimetric-differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA), and the powders were densified at different temperatures 400 degrees C, 500 degrees C, 600 degrees C and 700 degrees C/4 hrs using conventional sintering method. The sintered samples were characterized by XRD and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The bulk densities of the samples were increased with an increase of sintering temperature. The grain sizes of all the samples vary in between 18 nm to 30 nm. The hysteresis loops show high saturation magnetization and low coercivity, indicates that it is a soft material. The incremental permeability (permeability with magnetic field superposition) was influenced by both Delta M and H-c. A sample with higher initial permeability and favoured the attainment of a higher incremental permeability. The Q-factor was mainly determined by the sintered density and microstructure. To summarize, a uniform and dense microstructure with relatively small average grain size is favourable for obtaining better dc-bias-superposition characteristics, including permeability and Q-factor.

The production of H-2 via photocatalytic water splitting reaction has attracted a great attention as a clean and renewable energy for next generation. Despite tremendous efforts, the present challenge for materials scientist is to develop highly active photo catalysts for splitting of water at low cost. This article reports the synthesis of TiO2-reduced graphene oxide hybrid nanomaterials through ionothermal method using functionalized ionic liquid for the enhanced hydrogen generation via water splitting reaction. The structural and morphological properties of the samples were investigated by XFtD, Raman spectroscopy, TG-DTA, UV-vis spectroscopy and TEM. A substantial increase of H-2 evolution was observed for TiO2-reduced graphene oxide hybrid nanomaterials. This is due to the high migration efficiency of photo-induced electrons and the inhibition of charge carrier recombination due to the electronic interaction between TiO2 and reduced graphene oxide. i.e, reduced graphene oxide acts as an electron-acceptor which effectively hinders the electron hole pair recombination of TiO2. Ammonium perchlorate (AP) has been coated with polystyrene (PS), cellulose acetate (CA), Novolak resin and polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) by a solvent/nonsolvent method which makes use of the coacervation principle. The effect of polymer coating on AP decomposition has been studied using thermogravimetry (TG) and differential thermal analysis (DTA). Polymer coating results in the desensitization of AP decomposition. The observed effect has been attributed to the thermophysical and thermochemical properties of the polymer used for coating. The effect of polystyrene coating on thermal decomposition of aluminium perchlorate trihydrazinate and ammonium nitrate as well as on the combustion of AP-CTPB composite propellants has been studied.

The effect of some experimental parameters, namely sample weight, particle size and its distribution, heating rate and flow rate of inert gas, on the fractional decomposition of calcium carbonate samples have been studied both experimentally and theoretical. The general conclusions obtained from theoretical analysis are corroborated qualitatively by the experimental data. The analysis indicates that the kinetic compensating effect may be partly due to the variations in experimental parameters for different experiments.

Metal acetate hydrazinates, M(CH3COO)2(N2H4)2 (M = Mn, Co, Ni, Zn, Cd) have been prepared and characterized by chemical analysis and infrared absorption spectra. Thermal decomposition of the complexes has been studied using simultaneous TG-DTG-DTA technique. Metal acetate hydrazinates decompose exothermically through metal acetate intermediates to the respective metal oxides.

Thermal decomposition of ethyl and isopropyl amine perchlorates has been studied by methods such as DTA, TG, isothermal weight loss measurements and the decomposition products have been analyzed in a mass spectrometer. Activation energy values for thermal decomposition have been calculated fromagr-t plots. The proton transfer dissociation mechanism proposed for the thermal decomposition of ammonium perchlorate (AP) has been extended to explain the decomposition products of these twosubstituted amine perchlorates.

The thermal decomposition characteristics of rice husk have been investigated by dynamic thermoanalytical techniques: DTA, TG, DTG and isothermal heating. The observed thermal behaviour is explained on the basis of a superposition of the decomposition of cellulose and lignin, which are the major organic constituents of rice husk. Morphological features of silica in husk as well as the ash are examined by scanning electron microscopy. Silica in the residual ash has been characterised by X-ray diffraction and infrared spectroscopy. Controlled thermal decomposition of rice husk has been shown to be a convenient method for the liberation of silica.

Thermal decomposition and combustion of lithium perchlorate ammine:ammonium perchlorate (LPA:AP) and magnesium perchlorate ammine:ammonium perchlorate (MPA:AP) pellets have been studied using DTA, TG, and strand burner techniques. The DTA results of the ammine:AP pellets show that the addition of ammines lowers the ignition temperature of AP. However, isothermal TG of the ammine:AP pellets show that in the case of LPA:AP pellets the extent of decomposition increases with the increase in the concentration of LPA; whereas in the case of MPA:AP pellets the extent of decomposition decreases with the increase in the concentration of MPA. Similarly, LPA:AP pellets show higher burning rates compared to AP pellets. On the other hand, MPA:AP pellets show lower burning rates compared to AP pellets. Increasing the concentration of MPA in MPA:AP pellets completely suppresses the combustion. These results are explained on the basis of the thermal characteristics of the additives and their decomposition products.

Hydrazinium magnesium sulfate, (N2H5)2Mg(SO4)2, has been prepared by dissolving magnesium powder in a solution of ammonium sulfate in hydrazine hydrate, by the reaction of ammonium magnesium sulfate with hydrazine hydrate, and by the cocrystallisation of dihydrazinium sulfate and magnesium sulfate. The product has been characterized by chemical analysis and infrared spectra. Thermal analysis of (N2H5)2Mg(SO4)2 by TG and DTA show exothermic decomposition at 302°C giving Mg(N2H4)SO4 as an intermediate and an endother-mic decomposition at 504°C producing MgSO4.

The effect of a particle size distribution on the fractional reaction has been analysed. The analysis shows that for non-isothermal TG the activation energy and frequency factor evaluated from the fractional reaction by conventional method depend on the particle size distribution, and this may lead to a kinetic compensating effect. Particle size distribution may also lead to an erroneous conclusion about the change in the mechanism of reaction.

STUDIES on potassium perchlorate/polystyrene (KP/PS) propellant systems have been carried out by using such techniques as thermogravimetry (TG), differential thermal analysis (DTA), and mass spectrometry (MS). It has been found that the thermal decomposition (TD) behavior of the KP/PS propellant is similar to that of the AP/PS propellant studied earlier.! It has also been observed that the TD of KP in the melt has a correlation with the burning rate (r) of KP/PS propellant at atmospheric pressure.

Oligonucleotides containing alternating purines-pyrimidines with AT base pairs have been shown to exist in the Z-form preferably in solid state. We report that oligodeoxyribonucleotides with GG, TG and CA interruptions in their alternating CG sequences can undergo B to Z transition in solution in the absence of any chemical modification or topological constraint. The sequences, d(CGCGCGGCGCGC) and d(CGTGCGCACG) have been synthesised and shown to adopt Z- conformation in presence of millimolar concentrations of Ni2+ under low water activity conditions. Significance of GG, TG and CA interruptions in the B to Z transition is discussed.

Sixteen million nucleotide sequence of genome of various organisms have been analysed to detect and study the extent of occurrence of simple repetitive sequences. Two sequence motifs (TG/CA)n and (CT/AG)n capable of adopting unusual DNA structures, left handed Z-conformation and triple-helical conformation respectively, are found to be abundant in rodent and human genomes, but almost completely absent in bacterial genome. (TG/CA)n and (CT/AG)n sequences are present mostly in the intron or 5'/3' flanking regions of the genes. The presence of such repeat motifs in genomic sequence of higher eukaryotes has been correlated with their possible functional significance in nucleosome organization, recombination and gene expression.

Conditions for the preparation of stoichiometric barium zirconyl oxalate heptahydrate (BZO) have been standardized. The thermal decomposition of BZO has been investigated employing TG, DTG and DTA techniques and chemical and gas analysis. The decomposition proceeds through four steps and is not affected much by the surrounding gas atmosphere. Both dehydration and oxalate decomposition take place in two steps. The formation of a transient intermediate containing both oxalate and carbonate groups is inferred. The decomposition of oxalate groups results in a carbonate of composition Ba2Zr2OsCO3, which decomposes between 600 and 800 ~ and yields barium zirconate. Chemical analysis, IR spectra and X-ray powder diffraction data support the identity of the intermediate as a separate entity.
