In 1-cyclo-hexyl-6,6,8a-trimethyl-3a,6,7,8a-tetra-hydro-1H-1-benzofuro2, 3-b]pyrrole-2,4(3H,5H)-dione, C19H27NO3, (I), and the isomorphous compounds 6,6,8a-trimethyl-1-phenyl-3a,6,7,8a-tetra-hydro-1H-1-benzofuro2,3-b]p yrrole-2,4(3H,5H)-dione, C19H21NO3, (II), and 6,6,8a-trimethyl-1-(3-pyridyl)-3a,6,7,8a-tetra-hydro-1H-1-benzofuro2, 3-b]pyrrole-2,4(3H,5H)-dione, C18H20N2O3, (III), the tetra-hydro-benzo-dihydro-furo-pyrrolidine ring systems are folded at the cis junction of the five-membered rings, giving rise to a non-planar shape of the tricyclic cores. The dihydro-furan and pyrrolidine rings in (I) are puckered and adopt an envelope conformation. The cyclo-hexene rings adopt a half-chair conformation in all the mol-ecules, while the substituent N-cyclo-hexyl ring in (I) assumes a chair form. Short intra-molecular C-HcO contacts form S(5) and S(6) motifs. The isomorphous compounds (II) and (III) are effectively isostructural, and aggregate into chains via inter-molecular C-HcO hydrogen bonds.

In the crystal structure of the title salt, C7H7Cl2N2O2+ center dot Cl-, the chloride anions participate in extensive hydrogen bonding with the aminium cations and indirectly link the molecules through multiple N+-H center dot center dot center dot Cl- salt bridges. There are two independent molecules in the asymmetric unit, related by a pseudo-inversion center. The direct intermolecular coupling is established by C-H center dot center dot center dot O, C-H center dot center dot center dot Cl and C-Cl center dot center dot center dot Cl- interactions. A rare three-center (donor bifurcated) C-H center dot center dot center dot (O,O) hydrogen bond is observed between the methylene and nitro groups, with a side-on intramolecular component of closed-ring type and a head-on intermolecular component.

We demonstrate the activity of Ce0.78Sn0.2Pt0.02O2-delta, a new catalyst, towards water-gas shift (WGS) reaction. Over 99.5% CO conversion to H-2 is observed at 300 +/- 25 degrees C. Based on different characterization techniques we found that the present catalyst is resistant to deactivation due to carbonate formation and sintering of Pt on the surface when subjected to longer duration of reaction conditions. The catalyst does not require any pre-treatment or activation between start-up/shut-down reaction operations. Formation of side products such as methane, methanol, formaldehyde, coke etc. was not observed under the WGS reaction conditions indicating the high selectivity of the catalyst for H-2. Temperature programmed reduction of the catalyst in hydrogen (H-2-TPR) shows reversible reduction of Ce4+ to Ce3+, Sn4+ to Sn2+ and Pt4+ to Pt-0 oxidation state with oxygen storage capacity (OSC) of 3500 mu mol g(-1) at 80 degrees C. Such high value of OSC indicates the presence of highly activated lattice oxygen. CO oxidation in presence of stoichiometric O-2 shows 100% conversion to CO2 at room temperature. The catalyst also exhibits 100% selectivity for CO2 at room temperature towards preferential oxidation (PROX) of residual CO in presence of excess hydrogen in the feed. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. The compound is derived from a novel form of the monopropellant oxalohydroxamic acid. The two exocyclic C-O bond lengths of 1.240 (3) and 1.228 (4)A indicate double bonds. The C-N bond lengths of 1.334 (4), 1.390 (4) and 1.359 (4) A are characteristic of the amide bond. The N atom covalently bonded to the two carbonyl C atoms acts as a proton donor in an intermolecular hydrogen bond to the ring O atom: N1...O3i = 2.854 ]k (i =x-- 1,y, z), H...O = 2.15 A, N-H...O = 159 °.

A theoretical analysis of the external heavy atom effect of a halogen atom on the radiative rate constant of phosphorescence is examined as a function of position of a bromine atom or atoms relative to a naphthalene or a benzene chromophore for a series of mono- and dibromo-, naphtho-, and benzonorbornenes. The theoretical results are then compared to experimentaldata and lead to the conclusion that the enhancement of the phosphorescence process takes place through the second-ordermixing of the triplet states of the chromophore with the singlet charge transfer states arising primarily from an electron transferfrom the orbitals of the heavy atom perturber to the unfilled x* orbitals of the chromophore.

The behavior of electrical resistivity in the critical region of three polar + nonpolar binary liquid systems CS2 +(CH3CO)2O, C6H12+(CH3CO)2O, and n‐C7H16+(CH3CO)2O is studied. For the mixtures with critical composition, the two phase region shows a conductivity behavior with σ1−σ2∼ (−ϵ)β with β?0.35. In the one phase region dR/dT has a singularity ϵ−b with b?0.35. A possible theory of the impurity conduction is given, which broadly explains these results. The possibility of dR/dT being positive or negative is also discussed.

A Green's function technique is used in the scattering matrix formalism to compute the mean square displacement of hydrogen and deuterium interstitials in the intermetallic compound Fe0.5Ti0.5 for low hydrogen/deuterium concentration. The mean square amplitudes of the metal atoms surrounding the interstitial are found to be smaller than those for the host crystal. This anomalous effect is due to the stiffening of the lattice by the dissolved hydrogen or deuterium at low concentration. This type of effect is experimentally observed in the case of NbHx at low hydrogen concentration.

The interface between two polar semiconductors can support three types of phonon-plasmon-polariton modes propagating in three well-defined frequency windows ??1?[min(?1,?3),?R1], ??2?[max(?2,?4),?R2], and ??3?[min(?2,?4),?R3]. The limiting frequencies ?1,2,3,4 are defined by ?1(?)=0, ?2(?)=0, and ?R1,2,3 by ?1(?)+?2(?)=0, where ?i(?) are dielectric functions of the two media with i=1,2. The dispersion, decay distances, and polarization of the three modes are discussed. The variation of the limiting frequencies with the interface plasma parameter ???p22/?p12 reveals an interesting feature in the dispersion characteristics of these modes. For the interfaces for which the bulk coupled phonon-plasmon frequencies of medium 1 are greater than the LO frequency or are less than the TO frequency of medium 2, there exist two values of ?=?1 and ?2(1) for which ??1 and ??3 are zero, respectively. Hence, for these values of ?, the two interface modes defined by ??1 and ??3 propagate with constant frequencies equal to the bulk coupled phonon-plasmon frequencies of medium 1, i.e., without showing any dispersion.

IH NMR studies at 270 MHz on the synthetic alamethicin fragments Z-Aib-Pro-Aib-Ala-Aib-Ala-OMe (1-6), Boc-Gln-Aib-Val-Aib-Gly-Leu-Aib-OMe (7-1 3), Boc-Leu-Aib-Pro-Val-Aib-OMe (1 2-16), and Boc-Gly-Leu- Aib-Pro-Val-Aib-OMe (1 1-16) have been carried out in CDC13 and (CD3)2S0. The intramolecularly hydrogen bonded amide hydrogens in these peptides have been delineated by using solvent titration experiments and temperature coefficientsof NH chemical shifts in (CD3)+30. All the peptides adopt highly folded structures, characterized by intramolecular 4 - 1 hydrogen bonds. The 1-6 fragment adopts a 310 helical conformation with four hydrogen bonds, in agreement with earlier studies (Rao, Ch. P., Nagaraj, R., Rao, C. N. R., & Balaram, P. The ir-spectra in the N-H stretching region of Piv-Pro-NHMe and Boc-Pro-NHMe have been studied in carbon tetrachloride and chloroform solutions over a wide range of concentrations. Based on the concentration dependence of the N-H stretching bands, it has been shown that the characteristic N-H stretching band due to the C7 intramolecular hydrogen bond is around 3335 cm-'. Intermolecular hydrogen bonding also occurs to a small extent in these peptides, giving rise to a slight concentration dependence of the N-H stretching bands. The band around 3335 cm-* need not necessarily be due to C7 hydrogen bonds alone as proposed by Tsuboi et al. or to intermolecular hydrogen bonding alone as proposed by Maxfield et al.; this conclusion is supported by studies on Boc-Leu-NHMe, which undergoes only intermolecular hydrogen bonding We have shown that 2-Aib-Aib-OMe and Z-Aib- Ala-OMe form C7 intramolecular hydrogen bonds in addition to C5 intramolecular hydrogen bonds. The present studies also show that all the peptides studied exist in more than one conformation in solution.

The migrating electrons in biological systems normally are extraneous and taking this into account the electron delocalisation across the hydrogen bonds in proteins is re-examined. It is seen that an extraneous electron can travel rapidly via the low-lying virtual orbitals of the hydrogen-bonded π-electronic structure of peptide units in proteins. The frequency of electron transfer decreases slowly with an increase in the path length. However, the coupling of electron and protonic motions enhances this frequency. Transfer of electrons across the hydrogen bonds in accordance with the double-exchange mechanism does not appear to be possible. This theory offers a possibility for an extraneous electron to transfer within protein structures.

Each of the fl-bends contains a proline residue at one of the corners. The torsion angles 4i range from -51? to -91? (average value -64o), and the torsion angles ai range from -1? to -46? Two H20 and two CH30H solvent molecules fill additional space with appropriate hydrogen bonding in the head-to-tail region, and two additional H20 molecules form hydrogen bonds with carbonyl oxygens near the curve in the helix at Pro-10. Since there is only one peptide molecule per cell in space group P1, the molecules repeat only by translation, and consequently the helices pack parallel to each other.
