The crystal belongs to the monoclinic space group p2(1)/c with the following unit cell dimensions for the C40H40N4O16ClRu2.1.75CH(2)Cl(2).H2O (M = 1237.0) : a = 12.347(3)Angstrom, b = 17.615(5)Angstrom, c = 26.148(2)Angstrom,beta = 92.88(1)degrees. v = 5679(2)Angstrom(3). Z=4, D-c = 1.45 g cm(-3). lambda(Mo-K-alpha) = 0.7107 Angstrom, mu(Mo-K-alpha) = 8.1 cm(-1), T = 293 K, R = 0.0815 (wR(2) = 0.2118) for 5834 reflections with 1 > 2 sigma(I). The complex has a tetracarboxylatodiruthenium (II, III) core and two axially bound 2-methylimidazole ligands. The Ru-Ru bond length is 2.290(1)Angstrom. The Ru-Ru bond order is 2.5 and the complex is three-electron paramagnetic. The complex shows an irreversible Ru-2(II,III)-->Ru-2(Il,II) reduction near -0.2 V vs SCE in CH2Cl2-0. 1 MTBAP. There are no unusual bond distances or angles. The triazole and two phenyl rings are planar. On the basis of packing considerations the possibility of intermolecular interactions playing a role in the reactivity of the starting material is ruled out.

The present work deals with the anticancer effect of benzimidazole derivatives associated with the pyridine framework. By varying the functional group at N-terminal of the benzimidazole by different L-amino acids, several 2-(4-(2,2,2-trifluoroethoxy)-3-methylpyridin-2-ylthio)-1H-benzo[d]imid azole derivatives 9(a-j) were synthesized. Their chemical structures were confirmed by H-1 NMR, IR and mass spectroscopic techniques. The synthesized compounds were examined for their antiproliferative effects against human leukemia cell lines, K562 and CEM. The preliminary results showed most of the derivatives had moderate antitumor activity. Compound 9j containing cysteine residue exhibited good inhibition compared to other amino acid resides. In addition DNA fragmentation results suggest that 9j is more cytotoxic and able to induce apoptosis.

In the title compound, C18H21NO3, the 1,4-dihydropyridine ring exhibits a flattened boat conformation. The methoxyphenyl ring is nearly planar [r.m.s. deviation = 0.0723 (1) angstrom] and is perpendicular to the base of the boat [dihedral angle = 88.98 (4)degrees]. Intermolecular N-H center dot center dot center dot O and C-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonds exist in the crystal structure.

In the title compound, C19H21Cl2NO4, the dihydropyridine ring adopts a flattened boat conformation. The dichlorophenyl ring is oriented almost perpendicular to the planar part of the dihydropyridine ring [dihedral angle = 89.1 (1)degrees]. An intramolecular C-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bond is observed. In the crystal structure, molecules are linked into chains along the b axis by N-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonds.

The crystal structure of copper ammonium oxalate dihydrate (space group P1̃) has been derived from a refinement of the two-dimensional (hk0) and (0kl) x-ray data using the atomic coordinateis of the isomorphous salt CuK 2(C2O4)2.2H2O as the starting point of the analysis. In contrast to the chromium complexes of oxalic acid the C-C bonds in both the two nonequivalent oxalate ions in the unit cell are single bonds (1.58 and 1.61 Å) consistent with the conclusion of Jeffrey and Parry that the carboxyl groups of the oxalate ion are separated by a pure a bond with little or no π conjugation across the molecule. Both the oxalate ions are slightly nonplanar. The copper ions occupy the special positions (0, 0, 0) and 0, 1/2, 0) and their coordination is of the distorted octahedral type with four nearest oxygen neighbors ( ≃ 2 Å) at the corners of a square and two more distant atoms along the octahedral bond direction. The environment of the NH4+ ions consists of eight nearest oxygen atoms at a mean distance of 3 Å.

Further purification of indoleacetaldoxime (IAOX) hydro-lyase from Gibberella fujikuroi by DEAE-cellulose chromatography is described. The purified enzyme was activated by dehydroascorbic acid (DHA), ascorbic acid (AA), and pyridoxal phosphate (PALP) and was inhibited by thiol compounds and thiol reagents including phenylthiocyanate. Ferrous ions but not ferric ions activated the purified enzyme. The enzyme was activated by dihydrofolic acid but inhibited by tetrahydrofolic acid. Phenylacetaldoxime, a competitive inhibitor, afforded partial protection of the enzyme from the action of N-ethylmaleimide suggesting the involvement of a thiol function at the active site or substrate-binding site. The inhibition of the enzyme by 2,3-dimercaptopropanol was reversed by DHA, PALP, or frozen storage. KCN inhibition of the enzyme was reversed by PALP. NaBH4 reduction of the purified enzyme in the presence of PALP gave an active enzyme which was further activated by PALP or DHA but not by ferrous ions. These results suggested a "structural" role for PALP in the activity of IAOX hydro-lyase. Dilute solutions of the purified enzyme, obtained during DEAE-cellulose chromatography and concentrated using sucrose, showed enhanced activity upon frozen storage and thawing. The increase in activity of the enzyme during certain culture conditions, the activation and inhibition of the enzyme by several unrelated compounds, and the effect of freezing indicate that IAOX hydro-lyase is probably a metabolically regulated enzyme with a structure composed of subunits.

The temperature ranges of thermal and athermal deformation behaviour of nickel are identified by employing the temperature-dependence of flow-stress and strain-rate cycling data. The results are used to present a unified view of dislocation mechanisms of glide encompassing the two thermally activated and the intermediate athermal regimes of plastic flow.In the low-temperature thermally activated region (<250 K) the strain rate is found to be controlled by the repulsive intersection of glide and forest dislocations, in accordance with current ideas. The athermal stress in this region can be attributed mainly to the presence of strong attractive junctions which are overcome by means of Orowan bowing, a small contribution also coming from the elastic interactions between dislocations. The values of activation area and activation energy obtained in the high-temperature region (> 750 K) negate the operation of a diffusion-controlled mechanism. Instead, the data support a thermal activation model involving unzipping of the attractive junctions. The internal (long-range) stress contribution here results solely from the elastic interactions between dislocations. This view concerning the high-temperature plastic flow is further supported by the observation that the Cottrell–Stokes law is obeyed over large strains in the range 750–1200 K.

We describe a blue/green inorganic material, Ba(3)(P(1-x)-Mn(x)O(4))(2) (I) based on tetrahedral MnO(4)(3-):3d(2) chromophore. The solid solutions (I) which are sky-blue and turquoise-blue for x <= 0.25 and dark green for x >= 0-50, are readily synthesized in air from commonly available starting materials, stabilizing the MnO(4)(3-) chromophore in an isostructural phosphate host. We suggest that the covalency/ionicity of P-O/Mn-O bonds in the solid solutions tunes the crystal field strength around Mn(V) such that a blue colour results for materials with small values of x. The material could serve as a nontoxic blue/green inorganic pigment.
