The out of equilibrium evolution for an Edwards‐Anderson spin glass is followed for a tenth of a second, a long enough time to let us make safe predictions about the behaviour at experimental scales. This work has been made possible by Janus, an FPGA based special purpose computer. We have thoroughly studied the spin glass correlation functions and the growth of the coherence length for L = 80 lattices in 3D. Our main conclusion is that these spin glasses follow noncoarsening dynamics, at least up to the experimentally relevant time scales.

We study numerically the nonequilibrium dynamics of the Ising spin glass, for a time spanning 11 orders of magnitude, thus approaching the experimentally relevant scale (i.e., seconds). We introduce novel analysis techniques to compute the coherence length in a model-independent way. We present strong evidence for a replicon correlator and for overlap equivalence. The emerging picture is compatible with noncoarsening behavior.

We present a mean field model for spin glasses with a natural notion of distance built in, namely, the Edwards-Anderson model on the diluted D-dimensional unit hypercube in the limit of large D. We show that finite D effects are strongly dependent on the connectivity, being much smaller for a fixed coordination number. We solve the nontrivial problem of generating these lattices. Afterward, we numerically study the nonequilibrium dynamics of the mean field spin glass. Our three main findings are the following: i the dynamics is ruled by an infinite number of time sectors, ii the aging dynamics consists of the growth of coherent domains with a nonvanishing surface-volume ratio, and iii the propagator in Fourier space follows the p4 law. We study as well the finite D effects in the nonequilibrium dynamics, finding that a naive finite size scaling ansatz works surprisingly well.

We study numerically the dynamics of a one-electron wavepacket in a two-dimensional random lattice with long-range correlated diagonal disorder in the presence of a uniform electric field. The time-dependent Schrodinger equation is used for this purpose. We find that the wavepacket displays Bloch-like oscillations associated with the appearance of a phase of delocalized states in the strong correlation regime. The amplitude of oscillations directly reflects the bandwidth of the phase and allows us to measure it. The oscillations reveal two main frequencies whose values are determined by the structure of the underlying potential in the vicinity of the wavepacket maximum.

The fact that fast oscillating homogeneous scalar fields behave as perfect fluids in average and their intrinsic isotropy have made these models very fruitful in cosmology. In this work we will analyse the perturbations dynamics in these theories assuming general power law potentials V(ϕ) = λ|ϕ|^n /n. At leading order in the wavenumber expansion, a simple expression for the effective sound speed of perturbations is obtained c_eff^ 2  = ω = (n − 2)/(n + 2) with ω the effective equation of state. We also obtain the first order correction in k^ 2/ω_eff^ 2 , when the wavenumber k of the perturbations is much smaller than the background oscillation frequency, ω_eff. For the standard massive case we have also analysed general anharmonic contributions to the effective sound speed. These results are reached through a perturbed version of the generalized virial theorem and also studying the exact system both in the super-Hubble limit, deriving the natural ansatz for δϕ; and for sub-Hubble modes, exploiting Floquet’s theorem.
