A formalism based on a chiral quark model (chi QM) approach complemented with a one-gluon-exchange model, to take into account the breakdown of the SU(6)circle times O(3) symmetry, is presented. The configuration mixing of wave functions for nucleon and resonances are derived. With few adjustable parameters, differential cross-section and polarized-beam asymmetry for the gamma p -> eta p process are calculated and successfully compared with the data in the center-of-mass energy range from threshold to 2 GeV. The known resonances S-11(1535), S-11(1650), P-13(1720), D-13(1520), and F-15(1680), as well as two new S-11 and D-15 resonances, are found to be dominant in the reaction mechanism. Moreover, connections among the scattering amplitudes of the chi QM approach and the helicity amplitudes, as well as decay widths of resonances, are established. Possible contributions from the so-called missing resonances are investigated and found to be negligible.

We construct microscopic three-nucleon forces consistent with the Bonn and Nijmegen two-nucleon potentials, and including , Roper, and nucleon-antinucleon excitations. Recent results for the choice of the meson parameters are discussed. The forces are used in Brueckner calculations and the saturation properties of nuclear matter are determined.

The N ∗(1535) resonance contributions to the pn → dφ reaction are evaluated in an effective Lagrangian model. The π-, η-, and ρ-meson exchange are considered. It is shown that the contributions from π- and ρ-meson exchange are dominant, while the contribution from η-meson exchange is negligibly small. Our theoretical results reproduce the experimental data of both total cross section and angular distribution well. This is more evidence that the N ∗(1535) resonance has a large s ¯s component leading to a large coupling to Nφ, which may be the real origin of the Okubo-Zweig-Iizuka rule violation in the πN and pN reactions.

By including the scalar isovector meson delta, we extend the relativistic mean field model and the one-boson exchange model of changing K-meson in the framework of Schaffner's relativistic mean field model. We re-consider the coupling constants for the interactions between the meson and the baryon and the interactions of the K meson with different mesons as well in various parameter sets. Using our model, we discuss the effective masses of K mesons in the hyperon-rich nuclear matter. We find that the density modification of the K meson mass in the strange nuclear matter is smaller than that in the pure nuclear matter. The influence of the scalar isovector meson 6 on the effective mass of kaon is rather evident. But the extent of the influence is different in different parameter sets.

With an effective Lagrangian approach, we analyze several NN -> NN pi pi channels by including various resonances with mass up to 1.72 GeV. For the channels with the pion pair of isospin zero, we confirm the dominance of N*(1440) -> N sigma in the near-threshold region. At higher energies and for channels with the final pion pair of isospin one, we find large contributions from N*(1440) -> Delta pi, double-Delta, Delta(1600) -> N*(1440)pi, Delta(1600) -> Delta pi and Delta(1620) -> Delta pi. There are also sizable contributions from Delta -> Delta pi, Delta -> N pi, N -> Delta pi, and nucleon pole at energies close to the threshold. We give a good reproduction to the total cross sections up to beam energies of 2.2 GeV except for the pp -> pp pi(0)pi(0) channel at energies around 1.1 GeV and our results agree with the existing data of differential cross sections of pp -> pp pi(+)p pi(-), pp -> nn pi(+)pi(+), and pp -> pp pi(0)pi(0) which are measured at CELSIUS and COSY.

New measurement by CELSIUS-WASA Collaboration on the pp →pnπ+ reaction reveals clear evidence for the presence of the Roper resonance N∗(1440) which has been ignored in previous theoretical calculations. In this article, based on an effective Lagrangian approach and available knowledge on the Roper resonance, we investigate the role of the Roper resonance for the pp→pnπ+ reaction. It is found that the contribution from the Roper resonance N∗(1440) becomes significant for kinetic energy above 1.1 GeV, consistent with the new experimental observation. The t -channel σ-meson exchange is dominant for the production of the Roper resonance.

The properties of baryons in nuclear matter are analysed in the relativistic mean-field theory(RMF). It is found that the scalar field sigma meson affects the properties of baryon at high density. A density dependent scalar coupling g(sigma)(N) is determined according to the idea of quark-meson coupling model and extended to RMF. It is shown that g(sigma)(N), affects the property of nuclear matter weakly at low density, but strongly at high density. The relation between the scalar density rho(S) and the nuclear density rho and the effective mass of the pentaquark circle minus(+) are studied with the density dependent coupling constant. The density dependent scalar coupling obviously affects the effective masses of baryons in nuclear matter, especially at high density.

Correlations between the behavior of the nuclear symmetry energy, the neutron skins, and the percentage of energy-weighted sum rule (EWSR) exhausted by the pygmy dipole resonance (PDR) in Ni-68 and Sn-132 are investigated by using different random phase approximation (RPA) models for the dipole response, based on a representative set of Skyrme effective forces plus meson-exchange effective Lagrangians. A comparison with the experimental data has allowed us to constrain the value of the derivative of the symmetry energy at saturation. The neutron skin radius is deduced under this constraint.

The ion-exchange equilibrium of bovine serum albumin (BSA) to an anion exchanger, DEAE Spherodex M, has been studied by batch adsorption experiments at pH values ranging from 5.26 to 7.6 and ionic strengths from 10 to 117.1 mmol/l. Using the unadjustable adsorption equilibrium parameters obtained from batch experiments, the applicability of the steric mass-action (SMA) model was analyzed for describing protein ion-exchange equilibrium in different buffer systems. The parametric sensitivity analysis was performed by perturbing each of the model parameters, while holding the rest constant. The simulation results showed that, at high salt concentrations or low pHs close to the isoelectric point of the protein, the precision of the model prediction decreased. Parametric sensitivity analysis showed that the characteristic charge and protein steric factor had the largest effects on ion-exchange equilibrium, while the effect of equilibrium constant was about 70%-95% smaller than those of characteristic charge and steric factor under all conditions investigated. The SMA model with the relationship between the adjusted characteristic charge and the salt concentration can well predict the protein adsorption isotherms in a wide pH range from 5.84 to 7.6. It is considered that the SMA model could be further improved by taking into account the effect of salt concentration on the intermolecular interactions of proteins. (c) 2006 Elsevier Ltd. We explore production mechanism and final state interaction in the pp -> nK(+)Sigma(+) channel based on the inconsistent experimental data published respectively by COSY-11 and COSY-ANKE. The scattering parameter a > 0 for n Sigma(+) interaction is favoured by large near-threshold cross section within a nonrelativistic parametrization investigation, and a strong n Sigma(+) interaction comparable to pp interaction is also indicated. Based on this analysis we calculate the contribution from resonance Delta*(1920) through pi(+) exchange within resonance model, and the numerical result suggests a rather small near-threshold total cross section, which is consistent with the COSY-ANKE data. With an additional sub-threshold resonance Delta*(1620), the model gives a much better description to the rather large near-threshold total cross section published by COSY-11

A simple and feasible model feet the calculation of the gas transfer by bubble clouds is proposed in this article. N-2, O-2, and CO2 transferred by bubble clouds are obtained. At wind speed of 10 m/s, the calculated supersaturation of dissolved oxygen is 1.93-3.89% in agreement with the measurement.

A new two-sided model rather than the one-sided model in previous works is put forward. The linear instability analysis is performed on the Marangoni-Benard convection in the two-layer system with an evaporation interface. We define a new evaporation Biot number which is different from that in the one-sided model, and obtain the curves of critical Marangoni number versus wavenumber. The influence of evaporation velocity and Biot number on the system is discussed and a new phenomenon uninterpreted before is now explained from our numerical results.

In this paper, the importance of investigation on terrestrical processes in arid areas for mankind's living environment protection and local economy development as well as its present state of the art are elucidated. A coupling model, which evaluates heat, mass, momentum and radiative fluxes in the SPAC system, is developed for simulating microclimate over plant and bare soil. Especially, it is focussed on the details of turbulence transfer. For illustration, numerical simulation of the water-heat exchange processes at Shapotou Observatory, GAS, Ninxia Province are conducted, and the computational results show that the laws of land-surface processes are rather typical in the arid areas.

Based on a single ion model, Hamiltonian of the simplest form about magnetocrystalline anisotropy for Tb3+ ion was solved by using the numerical method. The relation between the stabilization energy, crystal field coefficient B-2(0) and the magnetic exchange interaction was studied as temperature approaches to 0 K. The results show that the stabilization energy contributed by Tb3+ is linear with crystal field coefficient B-2(0) approximately, but it is insensitive to the change of magnetic exchange interaction for the strong magnetic substances such as TbCo5, Tb2Co17 and Tb2Fe14B compounds.
