Rhesus macaques and stump-tailed macaques are sympatric in western Yunnan (China), coexisting or occupying habitats that show little difference. This paper tests hypotheses based on theoretical expectation from the differing biomechanical demands of terrestrial and arboreal quadrupedalism in stump-tailed macaques and rhesus macaques, respectively. Individuals of these two macaque taxa were markedly separated by the first two principal components and discriminant analyses based on 18 variables of the upper limb. The rhesus macaques appear to be more adapted for arboreal quadruped habits because of elongation of the clavicle and forearm, a larger humeral head and greater midshaft sagittal diameters of the radius and ulna.

P>Semen sample was collected from two captive adult Yangtze finless porpoises (Neophocaena phocaenoides asiaeorientalis) during physical examination. One individual was aged about 9 years with body length 143 cm (total length) and body weight 46.1 kg in 2003. The age of the other was unknown and its body length was 147 cm and body weight was 43 kg in 2004. Ultrastructure of their spermatozoa was examined using scanning and transmission electron microscope. The sperm concentration was 4.17 x 10(9) spermatozoa per ml by the cytometer. The approximate dimensions of the spermatozoa were as follows: head length, 3.366 +/- 0.140 mu m (mean +/- SE, n = 15); head width, 1.896 +/- 0.099 mu m (n = 15); and neck length, 1.004 +/- 0.074 mu m (n = 10). The tail included midpiece, principal piece and terminal piece. The length of the midpiece was 1.882 +/- 0.077 mu m (n = 9). There is no apparent boundary between the principal piece and the terminal piece, so the length of the principal piece and the terminal piece was 44.612 +/- 3.485 mu m (n = 5). Total length of the spermatozoa was 53.314 +/- 4.580 mu m (n = 10). The acrosome covered approximately 45.8% of the anterior portion of the head.

Except for the complement C1q, the immunological functions of other C1q family members have remained unclear. Here we describe zebrafish C1q-like, whose transcription and translation display a uniform distribution in early embryos, and are restricted to mid-hind brain and eye in later embryos. In vitro studies showed that C1q-like could inhibit the apoptosis induced by ActD and CHX in EPC cells, through repressing caspase 3/9 activities. Moreover, its physiological roles were studied by morpholino-mediated knockdown in zebrafish embryogenesis. In comparison with control embryos, the C1q-like knockdown embryos display obvious defects in the head and cramofacial development mediated through p53-induced apoptosis, which was confirmed by the in vitro transcribed C1q-like mRNA or p53 MO co-injection. TUNEL assays revealed extensive cell death, and caspase 3/9 activity measurement also revealed about two folds increase in C1q-like morphant embryos, which was inhibited by p53 MO co-injection. Real-time quantitative PCR showed the up-regulation expression of several apoptosis regulators such as p53, mdm2, p21, Box and caspase 3, and down-regulation expression of hbae1 in the C1q-like morphant embryos. Knockdown of C1q-like in zebrafish embryos decreased hemoglobin production and impaired the organization of mesencephalic vein and other brain blood vessels. Interestingly, exposure of zebrafish embryos to UV resulted in an increase in mRNA expression of C1q-like, whereas over-expression of C1q-like was not enough resist to the damage. Furthermore, C1q-like transcription was up-regulated in response to pathogen Aeromonas hydrophila, and embryo survival significantly decreased in the C1q-like morphants after exposure to the bacteria. The data suggested that C1q-like might play an antiapoptotic and protective role in inhibiting p53-dependent and caspase 3/9-mediated apoptosis during embryogenesis, especially in the brain development, and C1q-like should be a novel regulator of cell survival during zebrafish embryogenesis. A new genus of Cobitinae, Bibarba gen. n., and a new species, B. bibarba sp. n., were discovered and are described for the Chengjiang River, a tributary of the Hongshuihe River in Guangxi Province of southern China. This river region is characterized by a Karst landscape, and the river that is inhabited by the new genus is a slowly moving stream with arenaceous and cobblestone beds. The new genus resembles Cobitis Linnaeus, 1758 (subfamily Cobitinae) in the shape and pigmentation pattern of their body, the absence of scales on their head, and the presence of a suborbital spine, but differs from it by a single Lamina circularis on the third pectoral fin ray instead of on the base of the second pectoral fin ray; two pairs of barbels (one rostral pair and one maxillo-mandibular pair) instead of three pairs of barbels (one rostral pair, one maxillary pair, and one maxillo-mandibular pair); a relatively thick and short suborbital spine with a strong medio-lateral process instead of a suborbital spine without or with a weakly formed medio-lateral process as in Cobitis; and the lack of a black stripe extending from the occiput through the eye to the insertion of the rostral barbel. The first two characters have not been reported in any other genus of the subfamily Cobitinae. A morphometric character analysis based on PCA reveals differences between B. bibarba and C. sinensis in body size, barbel length, interorbital width, pectoral fin length in males, and the position of the dorsal and ventral fins. Type specimens of the new species are kept in the Freshwater Fishes Museum of the Institute of Hydrobiology at the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Wuhan, Hubei Province. (c) 2007 Elsevier GmbH. The immobilization of surface-derivatized gold nanoparticles onto methyl-terminated self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) on gold surface was achieved by the cooperation of hydrophobic and electrophoretic forces. Electrochemical and scanning probe microscopy techniques were utilized to explore the influence of the SAM's structure and properties of the nanoparticle/SAM/gold system. SAMs prepared from 1-decanethiol (DT) and 2-mercapto-3-n-octylthiophene (MOT) were used as hydrophobic substrates. The DT SAM is a closely packed and organized monolayer, which can effectively block the underlying gold and inhibit a variety of solution species including organic and inorganic molecules from penetrating, whereas the MOT monolayer is poorly packed or disorganized (because of a large difference in dimension between the thiophene head and the alkylchain tail) and permeable to many organic probes in aqueous solution but not to inorganic probes. Thus, the MOT monolayer provides a more energetically favorable hydrophobic surface for the penetration and adsorption of organic species than the DT monolayer.

A novel synthesis of asymmetric bis(chlorophthalimide)s (3,4-BCPIs) has been established. The polymerizations of them produced higher molecular weight (0.38-0.51 dL/g) polyimides containing biphenyl units than those of isomeric polymers derived from symmetric bis(chlorophthalimide)s (4,4'-BCPIs) and 3,3'-BCPIs. The distribution of the formed biphenyl units of head to tail, head to head, and tail to tail in the chain of the polymers was about 58.0:21.0:21.0, determined by C-13 NMR spectra of the polymers. The composition of model compounds, determined by HPLC, was well consistent with the 13C NMR spectrum result. Comparing with polymers derived from 4,4'-BCPIs and 3,3'-BCPIs, the polymers derived from 3,4-BCPIs showed better solubilities in N,N-dimethylacetamide (DMAc), N,N-dimethyl-formamide (DMF), and N-methylpyrrolinone (NMP). Flexible films could be cast from the polymer solution with the inherent viscosities of above 0.35 dL/g. The polymer derived from asymmetric bis(chlorophthimide)s gave the highest T-g among the isomeric polymers.

Siliceous mesostructured cellular foam with three-dimensional (3D) wormhole structure (MSU-type) is prepared by using triblock copolymer (poly(styrene-b-butadiene-b- styrene), SBS) with both hydrophobic head and tail group as template in strong acid condition via microemulsion method. The effects of SBS addition and temperature on the morphology and physicochemical properties, such as pore diameters, surface areas and pore volumes of the materials have been investigated by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM) and nitrogen adsorption-desorption analysis. The results show that the pore volumes, pore sizes and specific surface areas depend strongly on the SBS amount and forming micelles temperature. Moreover, the materials obtained with high wall thickness exhibit a relatively good thermal stability.

The loading reverberation is a multiple wave effect on the specimen in the split Hopkinson torsional bar (SHTB). Its existence intensively destroys the microstructure pattern in the tested material and therefore, interferes with the study correlating the deformed microstructure to the macroscopic stress-strain response. This paper discusses the problem of the loading reverberation and its effects on the post-mortem observations in the SHTB experiment. The cause of the loading reverberation is illustrated by a stress wave analysis. The modification of the standard SHTB is introduced, which involves attaching two unloading bars at the two ends of the original main bar system and adopting a new loading head and a couple of specially designed clutches. The clutches are placed between the main bar system and the unloading bars in order to lead the secondary loading wave out of the main bar system and to cut off the connection in a timely manner. The loading head of the standard torsional bar was redesigned by using a tube-type loading device associated with a ratchet system to ensure the exclusion of the reflected wave. Thus, the secondary loading waves were wholly trapped in the two unloading bars. The wave recording results and the contrasting experiments for examining the post-mortem microstructure during shear banding both before and after the modification highly support the effectiveness of the modified version. The modified SHTB realizes a single wave pulse loading process and will become a useful tool for investigating the relation between the deformed microstructure and the macroscopic stress-strain response. It will play an important role especially in the study of the evolution of the microstructure during the shear banding process. (C) 1995 American Institute of Physics.

The information preservation (IP) method and the direct simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) method are used to simulate the gas flows between the write/read head and the platter of the disk drive (the slider bearing problem). The results of both methods are in good agreement with numerical solution of the Reynolds equation in the cases studied. However, the DSMC method owing to the problem of large sample size demand and the difficulty in regulating boundary conditions at the inlet and outlet was able to simulate only short bearings, while IP simulates the bearing of authentic length ~1000 m ? and can provide more detailed flow information.

报道了一种基于荧光猝灭原理的光纤氧气传感器.采用塑料光纤作为传感和传光元件进行氧气传感,传感头制成U形.以邻菲咯啉钌作为荧光标记物,用溶胶-凝胶法制备敏感材料.采用相移法来实现对荧光寿命的测定.测量了不同弯曲半径传感头对氧气传感的灵敏度,发现当U形光纤的弯曲半径较小时系统的灵敏度较高.对荧光寿命和氧气浓度的关系进行了测量,发现二者呈亚线性关系,提出双荧光体模型解释这一实验现象.

A new species of the genus Glyptothorax, Glyptothorax obliquimaculatus sp. nov. is described from the Xiaohei River, a tributary of the Nanting River, Salween drainage, in southwestern Yunnan province, China. This new species can be distinguished from its congeners by the following combination of characteristics: unculiferous ridges of the thoracic adhesive apparatus extending anteriorly onto the gular region; body with irregular dark blotches scattered along lateral surface (blotches mostly oblique); skin smooth on head and body; dorsal spine smooth without serrations on its posterior margin; lips smooth; posterior margin of pectoral spine with 7-8 serrations; dorsal-fin base 11.0-13.2% SL; pectoral-fin length 15.6-19.6% SL; depth of caudal peduncle 8.6-9.8% SL; head width 19.1-24.0% SL; nasal barbel length 23.3-33.3% HL.

在试验过程中,通常采用一个土样进行连续试验来测定土壤的持水特征。此时,土样的有机质、黏粒矿物类型和阳离子交换量等性质基本保持不变,而土壤的容重在水力学和机械压力共同作用下会发生很大的变化。因此,我们认为实测的土壤持水特征不再是土壤吸力和含水量相对应的一条曲线,而是由土壤质量含水量、吸力和容重三变量共同确定的一个曲面。本文在Brooks-Corey土壤水分特征曲线模型的基础上,提出了两种描述土壤质量含水量、吸力和容重三变量关系的曲面模型,分析了模型的优缺点和适用条件,并采用离心机石蜡控容重法实测了四种质地填装土壤的三变量特征曲面。研究结果表明:土壤持水特征是由土壤质量含水量、吸力和容重三变量共同确定的一个曲面这一假设是合理的;类似于Brooks-Corey模型的两种幂函数经验曲面模型能够合理地描述填装土壤的实测数据,决定系数均大于0.94;模型Ⅰ的拟合效果略好于模型Ⅱ,但模型Ⅱ包含两个物理意义明确的参数,具有一定的优势。这一研究将为校正容重变化对土壤水力学参数的影响提供新的途径。

A mesostructured cellular foam (MCF) with three-dimensional (313) disordered strutlike structure is prepared by using triblock copolymer (poly(styrene-b-butadiene-b-styrene), SBS, M-W = 140K) as template under strong acid conditions. It is the first report to use triblock copolymer with both hydrophobic head and tail groups instead of hydrophilic head and hydrophobic tail copolymers to synthesize siliceous mesostructured cellular foams. The resulted materials have high pore volume (0.92 cm(3)/g) and relatively narrow pore size distributions with a large pore size of 7.9 nm, which will allow for the fixation of large active complexes, reduce diffusional restriction of reactants and enable reactions involving bulky molecules to take place, especially.

轮式移动宜人机器人项目研究的主要目的是开发自主式仿人机器人样机 ,探索先进的机器人理论和技术。轮式移动宜人机器人由正交轮式移动平台、腰部、躯干及头部和双臂组成 ,共 2 1个自由度。整体结构包括 :电源系统、机械系统、控制系统和传感系统。电源系统采用车载电池供电。机械系统包括变刚度结构 ,提高了机器人与人交互作业的安全性。控制系统分为中央协调层和执行层结构。传感系统主要实现关节位置检测、姿态检测、力检测和视觉。文章讨论了此机器人的研究进展。

Aiming at solving the seismic imaging difficulty in complex area, the static correction methods and the migration imaging techniques taking the anisotropy into account are studied in this dissertation. To solve the static correction problems, a new tomography inversion approach is presented which takes use of the apparent slowness and apparent velocity and inverts both head and diving waves over the complete offset ranges. This approach is also taken practice to the practical seismic data processing of south areas of China and gets ideal effects. There are obvious differences between the actual statics and the statics based on the surface consistency hypothesis. In this dissertation, the exact differences formula is derived. The wave-eqation datuming method based on a single shot gather and the hybrid zero-offset wave-equation datuming algorithm based on f-x domain and f-k domain are presented at the same time. Further more, some forward modelings are made and tested. These methods are also put into practical seismic data processing and good results are made. In this dissertation, the true amplitude Kirchhoff pre-stack time migration fomula in VTI media is presented. The high-dense bispectral scanning technique based on the anelliptical time-shifted hyperbola and the geostatistical filtering are adopted to extract the anellipticity parameter. Simultaneously, combined with the practical seismic data imaging, the anisotropic pre-stack time migration flow is proposed and good processing results are made.
