Iron-substituted SBA-15 (Fe-SBA-15) materials have been synthesized via a simple direct hydrothermal method under weak acidic conditions. The powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), NZ sorption and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) characterizations show that the resultant materials have well-ordered hexagonal meso-structures. The diffused reflectance UV-vis and UV resonance Raman spectroscopy characterizations show that most of the iron ions exist as isolated framework species for calcined materials when the Fe/Si molar ratios are below 0.01 in the gel. The presence of iron species also has significant salt effects that can greatly improve the ordering of the mesoporous structure. Different iron species including isolated framework iron species, extraframework iron clusters and iron oxides are formed selectively by adjusting the pH values of the synthesis solutions and Fe/Si molar ratios. The evolutionary relationships of species of Danio and the monophyly and phylogenetic placement of the genus within the family Cyprinidae and subfamily Rasborinae provide fundamentally important phyloinformatics necessary for direct evaluations of an array of pertinent questions in modern comparative biology. Although the genus Danio is not one of the most diverse within the family, Danio rerio is one of the most important model species in biology. Many investigations have used this species or presumed close relatives to address specific questions that have lasting impact on the hypothesis and theory of development in vertebrates. Largely lacking from this approach has been a holistic picture of the exact phylogenetic or evolutionary relationships of this species and its close relatives. One thing that has been learned over the previous century is that many organismal attributes (e.g., developmental pathways, ecologies, behaviors, speciation) are historically constrained and their origins and functions are best explained via a phylogenetic approach. Herein, we provide a molecular evaluation of the phylogenetic placement of the model species Danio rerio within the genus Danio and among hypothesized closely related species and genera. Our analysis is derived from data using two nuclear genes (RAG1, rhodopsin) and five mitochondrial genes (ND4, ND4L, ND5, COI, cyt b) evaluated using parsimony, maximum likelihood, and Bayesian analyses. The family Cyprinidae is resolved as monophyletic but the subfamily Rasborinae (priority over Danioinae) is an unnatural assemblage. Danio is identified as a monophyletic group sister to a clade inclusive of the genera Chela, Microrasbora, Devario, and Inlecypris, not Devario nor Esomus as hypothesized in previous studies. Danio rerio is sister to D. kyathit among the species of Danio evaluated in this analysis. Microrasbora and Rasbora are non-monophyletic assemblages; however, Boraras is monophyletic.

Tylopharynx clariamphida sp. n. is described from muddy sand collected in Anhui Province, China. It can be distinguished from T foetida (Butschli, 1874), the type and only species of the genus, by numerous characters: having 24 to 26 prominent and clearly separated longitudinal ridges, a higher lip region with no hint of a cephalic framework, more prominent amphidial foveae in lateral view, wider and more posteriorly located amphidial apertures, smaller basal knobs of stoma, longer metacorpus, more enlarged phasmids, shorter spicules with shorter digitate terminus, shorter reflexed part of testis, and thicker gubernaculum with more angular shape. For comparison, an expanded description is given for T foetida from Belgium, and SEM photographs of both species are provided.

It was explored by density functional calculations that exchanged La or P species exert great influence on the local Al sites as well as on the adjacent exchanged species. In partially exchanged La- or P/H-ZSM-5 zeolite, some of the Al sites will fall off from the zeolite framework even more easily than in H-form ZSM-5, consistent with our XRF experiments. However, when exchanged by both La and P species, Al at either of the two exchanged sites shows better stability compared to H-from. zeolite. La and P species will interact strongly with each other, as evidenced by the charge donation process and the shortening of P-O-1 bond length. It was just the cooperation of La and P species that enabled RSCC catalysts worked normally under severe conditions. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

The titanium species existing in titanium silicalite TS-1, which is prepared by hydrothermal method, were investigated using chemical analysis, XRD, FT-IR, Si-29 MAS NMR, UV-VIS, ESR. It has been observed that several kinds of titanium species may exist in titanium silicalite. The form that titanium atoms incorporate into the framework of titanium silicalite synthesized using tetrapropylammonium bromide (TPABr) as template differs from that using the classical method. But, the symmetry of titanium silicalite, changes from monoclinic to orthorhombic with the increase of titanium content in both methods. The Ti-O-2(-) originated from framework titanium and H2O2 has the moderate stability and may be active site in oxidation reaction. TS-1 synthesized using TPABr as template does not contain anatase, but contains a kind of partly condensed titanium species with six-fold coordination. The titanium species may correspond to 270-280 mn band in UV-VIS spectra and also can form Ti-O-2(-). But, this kind of Ti-O-2(-) is very stable and cannot be catalytic active site. So, the six-fold coordination titanium species may be inactive in both the oxidation reaction and the decomposition of H2O2. The hypothesis has been further proved by the phenomena that the titanium species is easily washed off using acid, and acid treating will not influence the catalytic performance of TS-1. Framework titanium in Ti-silicalite-1 (TS-1) zeolite was selectively identified by its resonance Raman bands using ultraviolet (W) Raman spectroscopy. Raman spectra of the TS-1 and silicalite-1 zeolites were obtained and compared using continuous wave laser lines at 244, 325, and 488 nm as the excitation sources. It was only with the excitation at 244 nm that resonance enhanced Raman bands at 490, 530, and 1125 cm(-1) appeared exclusively for the TS-1 zeolite. Furthermore, these bands increased in intensity with the crystallization time of the TS-1 zeolite. The Raman bands at 490, 530, and 1125 cm(-1) are identified as the framework titanium species because they only appeared when the laser excites the charge-transfer transition of the framework titanium species in the TS-1. No resonance Raman enhancement was detected for the bands of silicalite-1 zeolite and for the band at 960 cm(-1) of TS-1 with any of the excitation sources ranging from the visible tb UV regions. This approach can be applicable for the identification of other transition metal ions substituted in the framework of a zeolite or any other molecular sieve.

The catalytic performances of methane dehydroaromatization (MDA) under non-oxidative conditions over 6 wt.% Mo/HZSM-5 catalysts calcined for different durations of time at 773 K have been investigated in combination with ex situ H-1 MAS NMR characterization. Prolongation of the calcination time at 773 K is in favor of the diffusion of the Mo species on the external surface and the migration of Mo species into the channels, resulting in a further decrease in the number of Bronsted acid sites, while causing only a slight change in the Mo contents of the bulk and in the framework structure of the HZSM-5 zeolite. The MoQ(x) species associated and non-associated with the Bronsted acid sites can be estimated quantitatively based on the 1H MAS NMR measurements as well as on the assumption of a stoichiometry ratio of 1: 1 between the Mo species and the Bronsted acid sites. Calcining the 6 wt.% Mo/HZSM-5 catalyst at 773 K for 18 h can cause the MoOx species to associate with the Bronsted acid sites, while a 6 Wt-% MO/SiO2 sample can be taken as a catalyst in which all MoOx species are non-associated with the Bronsted acid sites. The TOF data at different times on stream on the 6 wt.% Mo/HZSM-5 catalyst calcined at 773 K for 18 h and on the 6 Wt-% MO/SiO2 catalyst reveal that the MoCx species formed from MoOx associated with the Bronsted acid sites are more active and stable than those formed from MoOx non-associated with the Bronsted acid sites. An analysis of the TPO profiles recorded on the used 6 wt.% Mo/HZSM-5 catalysts calcined for different durations of time combined with the TGA measurements also reveals that the more of the MoCx species formed from MoOx species associated with the Br6nsted acid sites, the lower the amount of coke that will be deposited on it. The decrease of the coke amount is mainly due to a decrease in the coke burnt-off at high temperature. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
