An analysis on crack creep propagation problem of power-law nonlinear viscoelastic materials is presented. The creep incompressilility assumption is used. To simulate fracture behavior of craze region, it is assumed that in the fracture process zone near the crack tip, the cohesive stress sigma(f) acts upon the crack surfaces and resists crack opening. Through a perturbation method, i. e., by superposing the Mode-I applied force onto a referential uniform stress state, which has a trivial solution and gives no effect on the solution of the original problem, the nonlinear viscoelastic problem is reduced to linear problem. For weak nonlinear materials, for which the power-law index n similar or equal to 1, the expressions of stress and crack surface displacement are derived. Then, the fracture process zone local energy criterion is proposed and based on which the formulas of cracking incubation time t

A preliminary analysis on crack evolution in viscoelastic materials was presented. Based on the equivalent inclusion concept of micro-mechanics theory, the explicit expressions of crack opening displacement delta and energy release rate G were derived, indicating that both delta and G are increasing with time. The equivalent modulus of the viscoelastic solid comprising cracks was evaluated. It is proved that the decrease of the modulus comes from two mechanisms: one is the viscoelasticity of the material; the other is the crack opening which is getting larger with time.

In this paper, we examine the characteristics of elastic wave propagation in viscoelastic porous media, which contain simultaneously both the Biot-flow and the squirt-flow mechanisms (BISQ). The frequency-domain Green's functions for viscoelastic BISQ media are then derived based on the classic potential function methods. Our numerical results show that S-waves are only affected by viscoelasticity, but not by squirt-flows. However, the phase velocity and attenuation of fast P-waves are seriously influenced by both viscoelasticity and squirt-flows; and there exist two peaks in the attenuation-frequency variations of fast P-waves. In the low-frequency range, the squirt-flow characteristic length, not viscoelasticity, affects the phase velocity of slow P-waves, whereas it is opposite in the high-frequency range. As to the contribution of potential functions of two types of compressional waves to the Green's function, the squirt-flow length has a small effect, and the effects of viscoelastic parameter are mainly in the higher frequency range. Creep behavior of [±45°]s composite material is characterized by using uniaxial creep and recovery tests. The well-known Schapery nonlinear viscoelastic consti tutive relation was modified to make it suitable for characterizing the creep behavior of this material. Then, using this modified Schapery constitutive equation, by which the vis coplastic and creep damage can be taken into consideration, the creep behavior of [±45°]. glass fiber reinforced epoxy laminate was studied. The constitutive parameters of the material were determined experimentally, and the procedure and method of determination of the material parameters are proved to be valid.

Using high molecular weight (M-n=80,000) Poly(hexano-6-lactone) (PCL'), tough and high tenacity PCL monofilaments with various draw ratios (undrawn to 9 times drawn) were prepared by melt-spinning. The relationship between microstructure and properties of the PCL fibers is described in this current IUPAC Technical Report. Analysis of microstructure of the drawn PCL fibers by wide-angle X-ray diffraction revealed typical c-axis orientation with an increase in crystallinity. It was also supported by sonic velocity measurements. The thermal, mechanical, and dynamic mechanical properties of the PCL fibers were affected significantly by draw ratio. DSC thermograms showed that the melting temperature and the enthalpy of fusion increased with draw ratio. The temperature dependence curves of dynamic viscoelasticity showed that the temperature at tan delta peak of alpha dispersion corresponding to the glass transition temperature shifted toward higher temperature and the peak value of tan delta decreased with draw ratio. The dynamic storage modulus and the sonic modulus increased with draw ratio. These results are due to the increase in crystallinity and molecular orientation with drawing, and are responsible for an increase in tensile tenacity as well as knot tenacity of the PCL fibers.

A series of tensile and three-point bending studies was conducted at various temperatures and loading rates using phenolphthalein polyether ketone (PEK-C). Yield stress, Young's modulus, fracture toughness, and crack opening displacement data were obtained for various conditions. In general, both yield stress and Young's modulus increase with decreasing temperature. However, the relationships between fracture toughness, loading rate, and temperature are very complex. This behavior is due to the simultaneous intersection of viscoelasticity and localized plastic deformation. The increased yield stress is the main factor contributing to the reduction in fracture toughness and crack opening displacement. The relationship between fracture toughness and yield stress are discussed. (C) 1995 John Wiley and Sons, Inc.

An epoxy network-LiClO4 electrolyte system was prepared from diglycidyl ether of polyethylene glycol and triglycidyl ether of glycerol, cured in the presence of LiClO4 only. Various techniques were used to characterize the chemical structure of the precursors and the correlation between the viscoelasticity and conductivity of the cured films was examined.

To deal with the problems in multi-component converted seismic wave exploration in coal fields, the wave propagating features and imaging methods of multi-component converted waves in coal measure strata are researched in this thesis firstly. The relations between viscoelasticity and anisotropy in coal measure strata are analyzed to build KEL-TI model, and which seismic wave propagating and attenuating features are researched. The disadvantages of converted wave imaging methods based on common converted point gather are analyzed and constant velocity no NMO converted wave imaging method based on common scattering point gather is put forward, according to Huygens-Fresnel principle, which applicabilities in the elastic isotropic, elastic TI and KEL-TI situations are discussed. To different model simulation data, the common scattering point gathers’ and stacked profiles’ features are analyzed. The results show that the method can image compressional waves and converted waves with high precision. Secondly, the resolution enhancing theories and methods of converted wave are researched by Rayleigh wave suppressing, converted wave static correction and poststack inverse-Q filtering. 1) The polarization filter is designed by the instantaneous polarization information of seismic waves, and the Rayleigh wave suppressing method is researched. From the spectrum analysis before and after filtering, it can be derived that the amplitudes are kept relatively. 2) To constant velocity no NMO converted wave imaging method, the static correction method based on common equivalent offset point gather is put forward and tested to the actual converted waves. 3) The relation between equivalent quality factor of converted wave, compressional wave quality factor and the ratio of compressional to shear wave velocity is derived. The compressional wave quality inversion method by first arrivals of none-offset VSP is researched, and which is then transformed to the equivalent quality factor to perform inverse-Q filtering of actual converted waves. The result has shown that the method can recover the high frequency energy of converted waves. At last, the theories and methods researched in this thesis are practiced to the 3D3C seismic exploration in Guqiao coal mine in Huainan and achieve good results.
