Polarization multiplexing holographic optical recording of a new photochromic diarylethene

A new unsymmetrical photochromic diarylethene 1a is synthesized, and the photochromic properties of it are also investigated. The compound exhibits good photochromism with UV/ visible light irradiation. Compound 1a in polymethyl methacrylate ( PMMA ) film changes color upon 313- nm light irradiation from colorless to blue, in which the absorption maximum is observed at 587 nm. Photon- mode polarization multiplexing holographic optical recording is performed successfully using this compound as a recording medium. In the diarylethene 1b/ PMMA film, polarization multiplexing hologram recording and retrieval, and a combination with the angular multiplexing scheme, are demonstrated systematically. The results indicate that recording capacity can be significantly improved with the combined method of polarization and angular multiplexing holographic recording. Synthesis, electrical properties and crystal structure of a new radical-ion salt based on pi-extended bis(TTF) and a Keggin heteropolymolybdate

By electrocrystallization of 2,6-[4,5-bis(n-butylsulfanyl)-1,3-dithiol-2-ylidene]-4,8-bis(6-iodo-n-hexyloxy)-1,3,5,7-tetrathia-s-indacene (BHBDTI) and [NBu4](4)[SiMo12O40] in the mixed solvent CHCl2CH2Cl and CH3CN, the new radical-ion salt [C42H60Cl2O2S12](2)[SiMo12O40] was prepared. It was characterized by means of IR and ESR spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. In the crystal structure, organic radical dications and silicomolybdate anions are alternatively arranged along the a axis to form a 1-D conducting layer. The organic layer consists of two isolated groups of BHBDTI divided by the (011) plane without short interatomic contacts. However, in each group, BHBDTI molecules associate with each other in a head to tail manner running along the [011] direction and face-to-face overlapping with a relative shift by approximately one TTF subunit along the long axis of the molecule and a slight shift along the short axis of the molecule with significantly short S ... S contacts. The room-temperature d.c. conductivity determined by the two-probe method is 10(-4) S cm(-1), suggesting that the compound is a semiconductor.

SYNTHESIS AND CRYSTAL-STRUCTURE OF A NEW LANTHANIDE CYCLOOCTATETRAENE COMPLEX (ETA-8-C8H8)ER(MU-ETA-8-C8H8)K(MU-ETA-8-C8H8)ER(MU-ETA-8-C8H8)K(THF)4

The tetranuclear nearly-linear complex (eta-8-C8H8)Er(mu-eta-8-C8H8)K(mu-eta-8-C8H8)Er(mu-eta-8-C8H8)K(THF)4 (THF = tetrahydrofuran) is first synthesised by the reaction of benzylcyclopentadienyl erbium dichloride (PhCH2C5H4)ErCl2.3THF with cyclooctatetraenyl potassium K2C8H8 in 1:1 molar ratio in THF; a single crystal X-ray study has shown that the complex has the tetralayer-sandwich structure and that the adjacent Er3+ and K+ ions are bridged by eta-8-cyclooctatetraenyl group.

New records of Paraprionospio (Annelida: Spionidae) from Chinese waters, with the description of a new species

Paraprionospio pinnata (Ehlers, 1901), a poorly known and potentially cosmopolitan polychaete, was examined from museum specimens and from collections in Jiaozhou Bay, the Yellow Sea. New observations indicate that previous Chinese records of P. pinnata are doubtful, and that Chinese waters contain at least three valid species of Paraprionospio, two are known and one is new. Paraprionospio inaequibranchia (Caullery, 1914) and Paraprionospio coora Wilson, 1990, previously misidentified as P. pinnata, are reported from Chinese waters for the first time. Paraprionospio crist'ata. new species, is characterized by having brown pigment patches on the prostomium, ventral crests on chaetigers 9 and 10, dorsal crests on the middle part of the body (from chaetigers 21-23, not beyond chaetiger 29). thin filaments on chaetiger 3, and bifoliate branchial lamellae.

On two species of euxanthine crabs from the South China Sea, including a description of a new species of Crosnierius (Crustacea : Decapoda : Brachyura : Xanthidae)

A new species of the previously monotypic xanthid genus Crosnierius Serene & Vadon, 1981 is described from the South China Sea. The species differs from Crosnierius carinatus Serene & Vadon, 1981 in the structure of the anterolateral teeth, ambulatory leg proportions and form of the male first pleopod. Paramedaeus planifrons (Sakai, 1965) is also reported from the South China Sea, the first record of the species outside its type locality of Japan.
