The Ag5 proteins are the most abundant and immunogenic proteins in the venom secretory ducts of stinging insects. An antigen 5-like protein (named tabRTS) composed of 221 amino acid residues was purified and characterized from the salivary glands of the horsefly, Tabanus yao (Diptera, Tabanidae). Its cDNA was cloned from the cDNA library of the horsefly's salivary gland. TabRTS containing the SCP domain (Sc7 family of extracellular protein domain) was found in insect antigen 5 proteins. More interestingly, there is an Arg-Thr-Ser (RTS) disintegrin motif at the C-terminus of tabRTS. The RTS motif is positioned in a loop bracketed by cysteine residues as those found in RTS-disintegrins of Crotalidae and Viperidae snake venoms, which act as angiogenesis inhibitors. Endothelial Cell Tube formation assay in vitro and chicken chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) angiogenesis assay in vivo were performed as to investigate the effect of tabRTS on angiogenesis. It was found that tabRTS could significantly inhibit angiogenesis in vitro and in vivo. Anti-alpha(1)beta(1) monoclonal antibody could dose-dependently inhibit the anti-angiogenic activity of tabRTS. This result indicated that tabRTS possibly targets the alpha(1)beta(1) integrin to exert the anti-angiogenic activity as snake venom RTS-/KTS-disintegrins do. The current work revealed the first angiogenesis inhibitor protein containing RTS motif from invertebrates, a possible novel type of RTS-disintegrin. (C) 2009 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

A sediment core was collected from the centre of Wanghu Lake, in the Middle Reaches of the Yangtze River. The recent part of the core was dated using a combination of Pb-210 and spheroidal carbonaceous particle (SCP) techniques. Extrapolating this chronology dated the laminated section of the core, between 723 and 881 mm, to the first half of the 18th century and this section was selected for detailed study. The thicknesses of the laminae were measured using reflecting and polarizing microscopes whilst geochemistry was determined by an electron probe. The thickness of the dark layers was found to be positively correlated with titanium concentrations, and negatively correlated with aluminium and potassium concentrations. The thickness of the light layers was found to be negatively correlated with the concentrations of titanium. It is concluded that the dark layers were deposited from the Fushui River, a tributary of the Yangtze River, under periods of normal flow whilst the light Layers were mainly deposited from the Yangtze River itself during flood periods. Documentary evidence for floods occurring in the take catchment corresponded with thick laminations of high titanium concentration. Further, two of the three thickest, light laminations with low titanium concentrations were found to be synchronous with recorded flood dates of the main Yangtze River in its Middle Reaches, but one was synchronous with a local drought. These data suggest that the Lake sediment provides an archive of the relative water levels of the Yangtze and Wanghu including floods of both the main Yangtze River and the local hydrological regime. 监督式编译技术是提高程序运行效率的自动优化技术。虽被提出 40 多年,却不被多数人熟知。为了研究监督式编译,并扩展它的应用,对监督式编译技术做了详细的分析,并将监督式编译应用于函数式语言LFC. 目前最为成熟的监督式编译是基于 Refal 的监督式编译系统。为了将 Refal监督式编译应用于 LFC 语言,详细分析了 Refal 语言和 LFC 语言的语法,数据结构,模式匹配的求值规则等。并提出了将现有的监督式编译应用于 LFC 语言的方法。 监督式编译应用于 LFC的第一种方法是将 LFC程序转换为能够被监督式编译系统优化的程序,即 Refal 程序。为提高程序转换的效率,提出了介于LFC和Refal 之间的中间语言表达形式。根据优化技术中优化器自应用的研究,提出了监督式编译应用于LFC的第二种方法,即利用监督式编译器优化LFC中间语言的解释器和源程序。 由于实验中所使用的监督式编译系统是基于无类型语言 Refal 的 SCP, 而LFC 的类型由上下文无关文法定义。因此,程序转换过程中需对 LFC 程序进行类型检查。对函数定义中的模式使用静态类型检查,判断模式的类型是否为类型声明的子类型;对于程序运行中输入参数的类型检查,提出了新的方法,即将 LFC中的文法转换为 Refal 函数 Filter。程序运行时的输入首先被该函数使用。 实验表明, Filter 函数使得输入参数类型和文法所定义类型一致。同时,结果表明,利用解释器优化 LFC 程序的方法是可行的。针对两种方法的实验结果,分析了影响优化结果的因素。最后,总结并提出了下一步的工作。

Heterogeneous electron transfer rate constants (k(s)) and diffusion coefficients (D) of the ferrocene and its derivatives. in a new synthetic comb polymer solvent, poly(dimethylsiloxane-g-monomethylether polyethylene glycol) (SCP), and several other polymer solvents were estimated by using microelectrodes. Also, the influence of various supporting electrolytes on k(s) and D of ferrocene was studied. It was shown that k(s) and D of ferrocene decreased with increasing anionic size of the supporting electrolyte, but k(s) tended to increase with increasing radius of the solvated cation. Also, the cationic size of the supporting electrolytes had little effects on D. The values of k(s) and D for the ferrocene derivatives in the polymer solvents were in sharp contrast to those in monomeric solvents. Thus. the k(s) values were proportional to D in the polymer solvents. which indicates that solvent dynamics control of the electrode reaction. The values of k(s) and D of ferrocene in SCP were larger than those in other polymer solvents indicating that SCP is a good polymer solvent. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Nitrous oxide (N2O) emission was measured in a Kobresia humilis meadow and a Potentilla fruticosa meadow in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau from June 2003 to July 2006. Five treatments were setup in the two alpine meadows. Two bare soil treatments were setup in the K. humilis meadow (BSK) and in the P. fruticosa meadow (BSP) by removing the above- and belowground plant biomass. Three plant community treatments were setup with one in the K. humilis meadow (herbaceous community in the K. humilis meadow-HCK) and two in the P. fruticosa meadow (herbaceous community in the P. fruticosa meadow-HCP, and shrub community in the P. fruticosa meadow-SCP). Nitrous oxide emission from BSP was estimated to be 38.1 +/- 3.6 mu g m(-2) h(-1), significantly higher than from BSK (30.2 +/- 2.8 mu g m(-2) h(-1)) during the whole experiment period. Rates from the two herbaceous blocks (HCK and HCP) were close to 39.5 mu g m(-2) stop h(-1) during the whole experimental period whereas shrub community (SCP) showed significant high emission rates of N2O. Annual rate of N2O emission was estimated to be 356.7 +/- 8.3 and 295.0 +/- 11.6 mg m(-2) year(-1) from the alpine P. fruticosa meadow and from the alpine K. humilis meadow, respectively. These results suggest that alpine meadows in the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau are an important source of N2O, contributing an average of 0.3 Tg N2O year(-1). We concluded that N2O emission will decrease, due to a predicted vegetation shift from shrubs to grasses imposed by overgrazing.
