Six species belonging to two families of Hemichordata have previously been recorded in Chinese waters. This paper records the discovery and description of a new species of the genus Glandiceps found in Jiaozhou Bay, Qingdao, Shandong Province, named Glandiceps qingdaoensis. The new species has a long proboscis with dorsal and ventral grooves, a stomochord with a long vermiform process, a proboscis cavity with a dorsal median, right and left glomeruli, right and left glomeruli very large and encircling the stomochord, a proboscis skeleton in the cavity extends into the median posterior of the collar, a well-developed dorsal ventral muscular septum in the proboscis cavity dividing the cavity completely into two separate parts. The collar cord is without giant nerve roots. The trunk with four distinct regions that can be recognized externally: branchial-genital region, genital region, hepatic region, and intestinal region. The dorsal pharynx is large and the gill pores are small. The tongue bars are encircled by vesicles, and the first gonad commences at the level of the second or third gill slit.

Human being built and updated the representations of spatial distances and spatial relations between protagonist and the around things in language comprehension. The representations of the spatial relations in egocentric spatial situational models were important in spatial cognition, narrative comprehension and psycholinguistic. Using imagery searching paradigm, Franklin and Tversky (1990) studied the representations of the spatial relations in egocentric spatial situational models and found the standard RT pattern of searching the objects in different directions around the observer (frontleft=right). But in his paradigm, there was focus bias that could brought out the standard RT pattern based on the findings in perceptual space(Hintzman, 1981). Eight experiments were conducted to distinguish the factors that affected the RT pattern in imagery searching. Rt. patterns in experiments 1, 2, 3, showed that there were two factors in identify which object was currently located beyond the observer's front, back, right, and left. The first factor (called direction effect) was for identifying the referred direction of probing noun, with a pattern of process time frontright=left. the second factor (called relative position effect) was for putting the attention to the goal direction to identify the goal object, with a pattern of process time focusand Object-Object relation. Without relation position effect, the standard RT pattern was found in reacting to direction nouns in Experiment 4, whereas another RT pattern (left=right=frontright or left is different(front=right=leftright-left directions represents near than other pairs. So from front to back, from back to front, from right to left or from left to right, is quick than other pairs. With the 45-degree count-clockwise rotation of the objects around the body, the geometric distance between them determined the psychological distance between two objects. As a conclusion, the structural natures of the spatial representation determined the nature of spatial relations.

Rationale: Discriminating right from left is an everyday cognitive ability. Repeated exposure to certain drugs, such as heroin, can produce poor performance on many cognitive tasks. However, it is yet unclear whether drug abuse impairs the ability of right-left discrimination. Objectives: The aim of the present study is to examine whether the spatial ability measured by the right-left discrimination task can be affected by heroin abuse and whether such drug effect, if it exists, is gender related. Methods: A paper-and-pen test was used. The test consists of line drawings of a person with no arm, one arm, or both arms crossing the vertical body axis of the figure. The line drawings are viewed from the back, from the front, or randomly alternating between the back and front drawings. The subjects task is to mark which is the right or left hand in the figure as fast as possible. Results: A main finding in this study was that the ability to discriminate between left and right in visual space was impaired in heroin-dependent patients. Especially, heroin-dependent females performed poorer than control females in all conditions but heroin-dependent males only performed poorly in part of conditions. Conclusions: Recent heroin abuse impairs the ability of right-left discrimination and such impairment is gender related: heroin-dependent females demonstrated greater performance deficits than males.

We theoretically investigate resonant tunneling through S- and U-shaped nanostructured graphene nanoribbons. A rich structure of resonant tunneling peaks is found emanating from different quasi-bound states in the middle region. The tunneling current can be turned on and off by varying the Fermi energy. Tunability of resonant tunneling is realized by changing the width of the left and/or right leads and without the use of any external gates.

Electrochemically induced three conformational transitions of calf thymus DNA from B-10.4 to Z(10.2)-DNA and from B-10.2 to B-10.4 and to C-DNA in 10 mM phosphate buffer solution (pH 7.21) at glassy carbon electrode are found and studied by in situ circular dichroism (CD) thin layer spectroelectrochemistry with singular value decomposition least square (SVDLS) analysis. It indicates that the so-called B-10.2 form and the C-form of DNA may be composed of B-10.4 and left-A DNA and of B-10.4 and right-A DNA, respectively. The irreversible electrochemical reduction of adenine and cytosine groups in the DNA molecule is studied by UV-Vis spectroelectrochemistry. Some electrochemical parameters alphan = 0.17, E-0' = -0.70 V (vs. Ag/AgCl), and the standard heterogeneous electron transfer rate constant, k(0) = 1.8 x 10(-5) cm s(-1) are obtained by double logarithmic analysis and non-linear regression.
