Nano Y2O3 particles with a spherical shape and narrow size distribution have been prepared by a novel spray combustion method. The experimental procedure is briefly described and the thermodynamical process of the post-heat treatment is investigated in this paper. The precursor fully crystallized when treated at as low as 400 degrees C. Prepared particles showed spherical shape and well dispersibility under different treating conditions. Narrow size distribution of particles was achieved even when the precursor was treated at 1373 K. (C) 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

The extraction and separation of Ho, Y, and Er(III) with the mixtures of bis(2,4,4-trimetylpentyl)monothiophosphinic acid (Cyanex 302) and another organic extractant, such as acidic organic extractant (di-2-ethylhexyl phosphoric acid P204, 2-ethythexyl phosphoric acid mono-2-ethylhexyl ester P507, di-2-ethylhexyl phosphinic acid P229, and sec-nonylphenoxy acetic acid CA-100), neutral organic extractant (tri-n-butyl phosphate TBP, di-(1-metylheptyl)metyl phosphate P350, and branched trialkylphosphinic oxide Cyanex 925) or primary amine N1923, has been investigated in this paper. The extractability and separation ability for the Ho, Y, and Er with the mixtures of Cyanex 302 and organic extractants has been compared. The synergistic effect of the Ho, Y, and Er extraction with the mixtures of Cyanex 302 and P229, Cyanex 925, CA-100, or N1923 has been explored and the synergistic enhancement coefficients have been calculated. At last, the Y3+ synergistic extraction with the mixtures of Cyanex 302 and CA-100 has been determined and the extracted complex has been deduced.

The reduction of Y(III) ions in molten chloride is known to be a one-step three electron reaction [1, 2, 3], but a voltammogram of YCl3 in molten LiCl-KCl-NaCl at a nickel electrode shows at least two reduction peaks of Y(III) ions, indicating the possibility of formation of Ni-Y intermetallic compounds. Using a galvanostatic electrolysis method, samples were prepared at several current densities at 450, 500, 600 and 700-degrees-C, respectively, and were identified with X-ray diffraction (XRD) and electron probe microanalysis (EPMA) methods. The results show that Ni2Y, Ni2Y3 and NiY can be produced by electrolysis and Ni2Y is found to be the predominant Ni-Y intermetallic compound under the experimental conditions. Nickel appears to diffuse in Ni2Y faster than yttrium, and the diffusion process is the rate determining step during Ni2Y formation.

YBa2Cu3-xTaxO7-y (x = 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5 and 0.6) superconductors have been prepared, X-ray diffraction shows that the system remains orthorhombic for all compositions studied but. for x > 0.2, Ta2O5 was detected as an impurity phase. Substitution of Ta5+ for Cu2+ occurs in the Cu(2) sites on the Cu(2)O planes. The introduction of the high-valence element tantalum produces extra free electrons. These electrons recombine with the positive carrier of the system, which causes the mobility and the Hall number of YBa2Cu3-xTaxO7-y to decrease and also results in a depression in T(c).

In most studies regarding the improving or therapeutical effects induced by enriched environment (EE), EE was performed after the stress treatment or in patients with certain diseases. In the current study, the effects of chronic restraint stress (6 h/day) in mice living in an enriched environment or standard environment (SE) were tested. Mice were randomly divided into 4 groups: non-stressed or stressed mice housed in SE or EE conditions (SE, stress + SE, EE, stress + EE). Prepulse inhibition (PPI) of startle was tested after the 2 weeks or 4 weeks stress and/or EE treatment and 1 or 2 weeks withdrawal from the 4 weeks treatment. After the 4 weeks treatment, spatial recognition memory in Y-maze was also tested. The results showed that EE increased PPI in stressed and non-stressed mice after 2 weeks treatment. No effect of EE on PPI was found after the 4 weeks treatment. 4 weeks chronic restraint stress increased PPI in mice housed in standard but not EE conditions. Stressed mice showed deficits on the 1 h delay version of the Y-maze which could be prevented by living in an enriched environment. Our results indicated that living in an enriched environment reversed the impairing effects of chronic restraint stress on spatial recognition memory. Zeolite Y has been used as the host to generate CdS nanoclusters. The location of CdS nanoclusters inside zeolite hosts was confirmed by the blue-shifted reflection absorption spectra with respect to that of bulk CdS materials. But which kind of cage inside zeolite Y, sodalite cage or supercage, was preferred for the CdS clusters remained unclear. In this paper, we conducted positron annihilation spectroscopy (PAS) measurements for the first time on a series of CdS/Y zeolite samples and concluded that CdS clusters were not located in supercages but in smaller sodalite cages. The stability of CdS clusters inside the sodalite units was due to the coordination of Cd atoms with the framework oxygen atoms of the double six-ring windows. Moreover, PAS revealed some important information of surface states existing on the interfacial layers between CdS clusters and zeolite Y. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B,V, All rights reserved.

AgI clusters in zeolite-Y (AgI/Y) were prepared by Ag+ exchange followed by reaction with NaI in solution. The formation of the clusters was determined by transmission electron microscopy and Auger electron spectroscopy. The clusters were uniform and even in size, 1.0-2.0 nm. The fluorescence spectrum of the clusters consists of two emission bands, which are attributed to AgI and Ag clusters, respectively. Photostimulated luminescence (PSL) is observed by stimulation at 675 or at 840 nm. The PSL spectrum of AgI/Y is consistent with the emission spectrum of Ag clusters and thus the PSL is considered to be caused by the charge transfer or carrier migration from the zeolite framework or from the AgI clusters to the Ag clusters. The appearance of PSL indicates that these materials may find application as a medium for erasable optical memory. (C) 1998 American Institute of Physics. [S0021-8979(98)02407-4].

PbS clusters in zeolite-Y have been prepared with the reaction of Pb2+-ion-exchanged zeolite-Y with Na2S in solution at room temperature. Their absorption spectra show dramatic blue shifts from that of the bulk PbS. Obvious change of both the absorption edges and peak positions upon PbS concentrations have been observed. These phenomena provide evidences that PbS clusters have been formed within the zeolite. The absorption spectra show featureless structure and have no tails near the absorption edges. As the PbS loading density becomes higher, the absorption bands become stronger and sharpen. Order PbS clusters lattice with high quality might be formed in the supercages of zeolite-Y. The extraction kinetics of Sc, Y, La and Gd(III) from the hydrochloric acid medium using Cyanex 302 (hereafter HL) in heptane solution have been measured by the constant interfacial cell with laminar flow. Reaction regions are explored at liquid-liquid interface. Extraction regimes are deduced to be diffusion-controlled for Sc(Ill) and mixed controlled for Y, La and Gd(Ill). Extraction mechanisms are discussed according to the dimeric model of Cyanex 302 in non-polar solution. From the temperature dependence of rate measurement, the values of E-a, Delta H-+/-, Delta S-+/- and Delta G(300)(+/-) are calculated and it is found that the absolute values of these parameters keep crescent trend for Sc, Y, La and Gd(III). At the same time, it is found that it can easily achieve the mutual separation among the Sc, Y and La(III) with kinetics extraction methods.

A high toughness wear resistant coating is produced by laser clad Fe-Cr-W-Ni-C alloys. The microstructural and compositional features of the laser-solidified microstructures and phase evolutions occurring during high temperature tempering at 963 K were investigated by using analytical electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray analysis. The clad coating possesses the hypereutectic microstructure consisted of M7C3 + (Y + M7C3) Du ring high temperature aging, the precipitation of M23C6 and M2C in austenite and in situ transformation of dendritic M7C3 to M23C6 and eutectic M7C3 to M6C occurred. The laser clad coating reveals an evident secondary hardening and superior impact wear resistance.

Using dimensional analysis and finite-element calculations we determine the functional form of indentation loading curves for a rigid conical indenter indenting into elastic-perfectly plastic solids. The new results are compared with the existing theories of indentation using conical indenters, including the slip-line theory for rigid-plastic solids, Sneddon's result for elastic solids, and Johnson's model for elastic-perfectly plastic solids. In the limit of small ratio of yield strength (Y) to Young's modulus (E), both the new results and Johnson's model approach that predicted by slip-line theory for rigid-plastic solids. In the limit of large Y/E, the new results agree with that for elastic solids. For a wide range of Y/E, some difference is found between Johnson's model-and the present result. This study also demonstrates the possibilities and limitations of using indentation loading curves to extract fundamental mechanical properties of solids.

There are very strong interests in improving the high-temperature wear resistance of the y-TiAl intermetallic alloy, especially when applied as tribological moving components. In this paper, microstructure, high-temperature dry sliding wear at 600 degrees C and isothermal oxidation at 1000 degrees C on ambient air of laser clad gamma/W2C/TiC composite coatings with different constitution of Ni-Cr-W-C precursor mixed powders on TiAl alloy substrates have been investigated. The results show that microstructure of the laser fabricated composite coatings possess non-equilibrium microstructure consisting of the matrix of nickel-base solid solution gamma-NiCrAl and reinforcements of TiC, W2C and M23C6 carbides. Higher wear resistance than the original TiAl alloy is achieved in the composite coatings under high-temperature wear test conditions. However, the oxidation resistance of the laser clad gamma/W2C/TiC composite coatings is deceased. The corresponding mechanisms resulting in the above behaviors of the laser clad composite coatings are discussed. (c) 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

采用提拉法生长Y3Al5O12(YAG)晶体和Yb3+掺杂原子数分数分别为5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, 50%和100%的Yb∶Y3Al5O12(Yb∶YAG)晶体。系统表征和分析了Yb3+掺杂浓度对拉曼光谱的影响。随着Yb3+掺杂浓度的增加,晶体的振动模式没有明显的变化,晶体结构没有改变;在370 cm-1和785 cm-1附近,振动吸收峰的半峰全宽逐渐增大。分析得出,Yb3+掺杂浓度对晶体的晶格、对称性、荧光寿命均有影响,从而可能影响到晶体的光谱和激光性能。
