Mossbauer spectroscopic study of R3Fe29-xCrx and R3Fe29-xCrxH,(y)(R = Y, Ce, Nd, Sm, Gd, Tb, and Dy)
Resumo:
Fe-57 Mossbauer spectra for the series of R3Fe29-xCrx (R = Y,Ce, Nd, Sm, Gd, Tb, and Dy) compounds and their hydrides have been measured at 4.2 K. The weighted average hyperfine field at the Fe sites was separated into a 3d-electron contribution, proportional to the average Fe moment, and a transferred contribution due to rare earth moments. The latter was found to increase with the rare earth effective spin (g(J) - 1) J. Hyperfine fields in the hydrides were only slightly larger than in the corresponding alloys.
Fe-57 Mossbauer spectroscopic and magnetic studies of R3Fe29-xVx (R = Y, Ce, Nd, Sm, Gd, Tb, and Dy)

Mossbauer spectra for Fe atoms in the series of R3Fe29-xVx (R = Y, Ce, Nd, Sm, Gd, Tb, and Dy) compounds were collected at 4.2 K. The ratio of 14.5 T/mu(B) between the average hyperfine field B-hf and the average Fe magnetic moment mu(Fe)(MS), obtained from our data, in Y3Fe29-xVx is in agreement with that deduced from the RxTy alloys by Gubbens et al. The average Fe magnetic moments mu(Fe)(MS) in these compounds at 4.2 K, deduced from our Mossbauer spectroscopic studies, are in accord with the results of magnetization measurement. The average hyperfine field of the Fe sites for R3Fe29-xVx at 4.2 K increases with increasing values of the rare earth effective spin (g(J) - 1) J, which indicates that there exists a transferred spin polarization induced by the neighboring rare earth atom.

Fe-57 Mossbauer spectra for the Fe atoms in the R3Fe29-xTx (R=Y, Ce, Nd, Sm, Gd, Tb, Dy; T=V, Cr) compounds were collected at 4.2 K. The analysis of Mossbauer spectra was based on the results of magnetization and neutron powder diffraction measurements. The average Fe magnetic moments at 4.2 K, deduced from our data, are in accord with magnetization measurements. The average hyperfine field of Tb3Fe29-xCrx (x=1.0, 1.5, 2.0, and 3.0) decreases with increasing Cr concentration, which is also in accordance with the variation of the average Fe magnetic moment in the Tb3Fe29-xCrx compounds.

The selective catalytic reduction of NO by CH4 was compared over In-Fe2O3/HZSM-5 catalysts prepared by impregnation and co-impregnation methods. It was found that the catalyst preparation method greatly affected the catalyst activity. The impregnated catalyst was very active, but the co-impregnated one showed poor activity. The In Fe2O3/HZSM-5 catalysts were investigated by Mossbauer spectroscopy. The results showed that indium cations entered into the iron oxide lattice in the co-impregnated catalyst, while the impregnated catalyst exhibited a more stable structure, when both of the catalysts were treated severely in the reaction atmosphere. Characterization by means of combined in situ temperature programmed reduction (TPR)- Mossbauer spectroscopy further revealed that the performances of the two catalysts were different in the TPR processes.

Barium hexaferrite was synthesized by chemical co-precipitation. Its Mossbauer spectra were obtained. A semi-empirical model, based on the Phillips theory of bonding, has been developed for quantitative explanation of the Mossbauer isomer shifts of Fe ions in BaFe12O19 crystals. The results show that, using the relationship between isomer shifts and covalency, the site assignments in hexaferrites will be resolved easily. This paper provides a powerful tool for studying other members of the hexagonal ferrimagnetic oxides family.

By using the average band-gap model, the chemical bond properties of (La1-x, M-x)(2)CuO4(M=Ba, Sr) were calculated. The calculated covalencies for Cu-O and La-O bond in the compounds are 0.3 and 0.03 respectively. Mossbauer isomer shifts of Fe-57 doped in La2CuO4 and Sn-119 doped in La2CuO4 were calculated by using the chemical surrounding factor defined by covalency and electronic polarizability. Four valence state tin and three valence iron sites were identified in Fe-57 and Sn-119 doped La2CuO4.

By using the chemical bond theory of complex crystals, the chemical bond properties of REBa2Cu3O7 (RE = Eu, Y) were calculated. The calculated covalencies for Cu(1)-O and Cu(2)-O bond in REBa2Cu3O7 compounds are 0.41 and 0.28 respectively. Mossbauer isomer shifts of Fe-57 doped, and Sn-119 doped in REBa2Cu3O7-x were calculated by using the chemical environmental factor, h(e), defined by covalency and electronic polarizability. Four valence state tin ion and iron ion sites were identified in Fe-57 and Sn-119 doped REBa2Cu3O7-x superconductors.

By using the clinical bond theory of dielectric description, the chemical bond parameters of (Tl.Pb) - 1223 was calculated. The results show that the Sr-O, Tl-O, and Ca-O types of bond have higher ionic character and the Cu-O types of bond have more covalent, character. Mossbauer isomer shifts of Fe-57 and Sn-119 doped in (Tl, Pb) -1223 were calculated by using the chemical environmental factor, h, defined by covalency and electronic polarizability. Four valence state tin and three valence iron sites were identified ill Fe-57, and Sn-119 doped (Tl, Pb) -1223 superconductor. We conclude that all of' the Fe atoms substitute the Cu at square planar Cu (H site, whereas Sn prefers to Substitute the square pyramidal Cu (2) site.

Mossbauer spectra of Fe-57 in a thick film YBa2(Cu0.97Fe0.03)(3)O7-x irradiated by a large dose of gamma-rays from Co-60 have been measured. The variation of the relative intensities of some subspectra of Fe-57 in the. Mossbauer spectra of the thick film YBa2(Cu0.97Fe0.03)(3)O7-x after irradiation can be observed. This variation indicates that the change of the coordination environment around some Fe atoms in the lattice occurs due to irradiation. The relative intensity of subspectrum D1(Fe) at the Cu(1) site decreases and that of subspectrum D4(Fe) at the Cu(1) site increases. This may be because of the possible oxygen atom hopping between the coordination environments of D1(Fe) and D4(Fe) in the lattice caused by irradiation. The effect of irradiation on the coordination environment around the Fe atom at the Cu(2) site is not appreciable. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science B.V.

The Mossbauer spectrum of a new organoeuropium complex with a neutral pi-ligand, Eu(eta6-C6Me6) (AlCl4)2, is measured at 88 K. The Mossbauer parameters derived from the spectrum show the divalent nature of the europium ion in this organoeuropium complex. The calculations of the electric field gradient at the Eu nucleus in the crystal indicate that the Eu-Cl bond in the compound may possess a certain covalent character. The low Debye temperature of this complex may be attributed to weak and delocalized pi-bonding between the Eu atom and the benzene ring of hexamethylbenzene, and a slow paramagnetic relaxation is suggested by the Mossbauer effect.
