In this paper, wavelet, transform is introduced to study the Lipschitz local singular exponent for characterising the local singularity behavior of fluctuating velocity in wall turbulence. I, is found that the local singular exponent is negative when the ejections and sweeps of coherent structures occur in a turbulent boundary layer.

A hybrid finite difference method and vortex method (HDV), which is based on domain decomposition and proposed by the authors (1992), is improved by using a modified incomplete LU decomposition conjugate gradient method (MILU-CG), and a high order implicit difference algorithm. The flow around a rotating circular cylinder at Reynolds number R-e = 1000, 200 and the angular to rectilinear speed ratio alpha is an element of (0.5, 3.25) is studied numerically. The long-time full developed features about the variations of the vortex patterns in the wake, and drag, lift forces on the cylinder are given. The calculated streamline contours agreed well with the experimental visualized flow pictures. The existence of critical states and the vortex patterns at the states are given for the first time. The maximum lift to drag force ratio can be obtained nearby the critical states.

The steady bifurcation flows in a spherical gap (gap ratio sigma=0.18) with rotating inner and stationary outer spheres are simulated numerically for Re(c1)less than or equal to Re less than or equal to 1 500 by solving steady axisymmetric incompressible Navier-Stokes equations using a finite difference method. The simulation shows that there exist two steady stable flows with 1 or 2 vortices per hemisphere for 775 less than or equal to Re less than or equal to 1 220 and three steady stable flows with 0, 1, or 2 vortices for 1 220<Re less than or equal to 1 500. The formation of different flows at the same Reynolds number is related with different initial conditions which on be generated by different accelerations of the inner sphere. Generation of zero-or two-vortex flow depends mainly on the acceleratio n, but that of one-vortex flow also depends on the perturbation breaking the equatorial symmetry. The mechanism of development of a saddle point in the meridional plane at higher Re number and its role in the formation of two-vortex flow are analyzed.

In order to obtain an overall and systematic understanding of the performance of a two-stage light gas gun (TLGG), a numerical code to simulate the process occurring in a gun shot is advanced based on the quasi-one-dimensional unsteady equations of motion with the real gas effect,;friction and heat transfer taken into account in a characteristic formulation for both driver and propellant gas. Comparisons of projectile velocities and projectile pressures along the barrel with experimental results from JET (Joint European Tons) and with computational data got by the Lagrangian method indicate that this code can provide results with good accuracy over a wide range of gun geometry and loading conditions.

The transition processes from steady flow into oscillatory flow in a liquid bridge of the half floating zone are studied experimentally. Two methods of noncontacted diagnoses are developed to measure the distribution of critical Marangoni numbers described by the onset of the oscillation st the free surface of the liquid bridge. The experimental results obtained for both cases of the upper rod heated and the lower rod heated agree with the prediction by Rayleigh's instability theory. The sensitive relations between the relatively fat or slender liquid bridge and the onset of oscillatory convection are also discussed to reveal the insight of the pressure distribution near the free surface. The experiments have been performed in a small liquid bridge, where the Bond number is much smaller than 1, and the results can be used to simulate the experiment in the microgravity environment.

A series of GaAs/InAs/GaAs samples were studied by double crystal X-ray diffraction and the X-ray dynamic theory was used to analyze the X-ray diffraction results. As the thickness of InAs layer exceeds 1.7 monolayer, 3-dimensional InAs islands appear. Pendellosung fringes shifted. A multilayer structure model is proposed to describe the strain status in the InAs islands of the sample and a good agreement is obtained between the experimental and theoretical curves.

The proton radioactivity half-lives of spherical proton emitters are investigated within a generalized liquid drop model (GLDM), including the proximity effects between nuclei in a neck and the mass and charge asymmetry. The penetrability is calculated in the WKB approximation and the assault frequency is estimated by the quantum mechanism method considering the structure of the parent nucleus. The spectroscopic factor is taken into account in half-life calculation, which is obtained by employing the relativistic mean field (RMF) theory. The half-lives within the GLDM are compared with the experimental data and other theoretical values. The results show that the GLDM works quite well for spherical proton emitters when the assault frequency is estimated by the quantum mechanical method and the spectroscopic factor is considered.
