Stability of ZrTiCuNiBe Bulk Metallic Glass Upon Isothermal Annealing Near the Glass Transition Temperature

The stability of Zr41Ti14Cu12.5Ni10Be22.5 bulk metallic glass (BMG) upon isothermal annealing near the glass transition temperature has been investigated by using x-ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry, and the pulse echo overlap method. The density, elastic constants, and thermodynamic parameters as well as their annealing time dependence have been determined. The microstructural and properties changes of the annealed BMG were checked by acoustic measurement. Obvious structural and property changes were observed with prolonged annealing of the BMG near the glass transition temperature.

Multiphoton-excited upconversion luminescence of Nd : YVO4

Fluorescence spectra of Nd: YVO4 under excitation of a continuous wave (CW) diode laser and a femtosecond laser at 800nm were investigated. It was found that Nd: YVO4 shows different upconversion and downconversion luminescencent behaviors when excited by the diode laser and the femtosecond laser. The dependence of the upconversion luminescence intensity on the pump power of the femtosecond laser was discussed. The populations of the upper energy levels for upconversion and downconversion luminescence were calculated based on the Bloch equations. The calculations agree well with the experimental results. Generation of a high-quality partially coherent dark hollow beam with a multimode fiber

We report the experimental generation of a high-quality partially coherent dark hollow beam (DHB) by coupling a partially coherent beam into a multimode fiber (MMF) with a suitable incidence angle. The interference experiment of the generated partially coherent DHB passing through double slits is demonstrated. It is found that the coupling efficiency of the MMF, the quality, and the coherence of the generated partially coherent DHB are closely controlled by the coherence of the input beam. Photoluminescence of erbium-doped hydrogenated amorphous SiOx(0 < x < 2)

Hydrogenated amorphous SiOx films are fabricated via plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition technique. After erbium implantation and rapid thermal annealing, photoluminescence (PL) are measured at 77 K and room temperature (RT), respectively. We observed the strong PL at 1.54 mu m at RT. The 1.54 mu m PL intensity changes with the variation of concentration of oxygen. The most intense PL at 77 K in a-SiOx:H (Er) corresponds to O/Si = 1.0 and at RT to O/Si = 1.76. Based on our results, we propose that Er ions contributed to PL come from O-rich region in the film. Er ions in Si-rich region have no relation with FL. Temperature dependence of the intensity of the 1.54 mu m line of the Er3+ transition displays a very weak temperature quenching in Er-doped hydrogenated amorphous Si. The PL intensity at 250 K is a little more one half of that at 15 K.

Study of nucleon resonances in a chiral quark model via eta productions

In this report we investigate eta-meson productions oil the proton via electromagnetic and hadron probes in a chiral quark model approach. The observables, such as, differential cross section and beam asymmetry for the two productions are calculated and compared with the experiment. The five known resonances S-11(1535) S-11(1650); P-13(1720) D-13(1520), and F-15(1680) are found to be dominant in the reaction mech-anisms in both channels. Significant, contribution from a new S-11 resonances are deduced. For the so-called "missing resonances", no evidence is found within the investigated reactions. The partial wave amplitudes for pi(-)p -> eta n are also presented.

Mixed ion transfer analysis in redox processes of electroactive thin films

Electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance (EQCM) technique was used to measure the ion transfer in redox processes in electroactive organic thin films, such as self-assembled monolayer (SAM) (4-pyridyl hydroquinone, abbr. 4PHQ), multilayer based on SAM and conducting polymer film (here poly-(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene), abbr. PEDOT). A mechanism of mixed ion transfer is developed and presented. Analysis of mixed ion transfer during redox processes successfully elucidates the deviation of oscillation frequency of the quartz crystal from theoretical expectation.

Isolation, characterization and crystal structure of natural eremophilenolide from Ligularia sagitta

A new eremophilenolide 1beta, 10beta-epoxy-6beta-acetoxy-3beta-angeloyloxy-8beta-hydrox y-eremophil-7(11)-en-8, 12alpha-olide (1), together with liguhodgsonal (2), esculetin (3) and beta-sitosterol (4), was isolated from the aerial parts of Ligularia sagitta. The structure of the new constituent (1) was elucidated by spectroscopic methods and confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction.
