The influence of HCl on CO and NO emissions was experimentally investigated in an entrained flow reactor (EFR) and an internally circulating fluidized bed (ICFB). The results in EFR show the addition of HCl inhibits CO oxidation and NO formation at 1073 K and 1123 K. At the lower temperature (1073 K) the inhibition of HCl becomes more obvious. In ICFB, chlorine-containing plastic (PVC) was added to increase the concentration of HCl during the combustion of coal or coke. Results show that HCl is likely to enhance the reduction of NO and N2O. HCl greatly increases CO and CH4 emission in the flue gas. A detailed mechanism of CO/NO/HCl/SO2 system was used to model the effect of HCl in combustion. The results indicate that HCl not only promotes the recombination of radicals O, H, and OH, but also accelerates the chemical equilibration of radicals. The influence of HCl on the radicals mainly occurs at 800-1200 K. (C) 2009 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Fishes of the genus Barbodes in Yunnan have been reviewed and 2 new species are described on the basis of specimens deposited in Kunming institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Counts and measurements follow Chu and Chen (1989). Barbodes heterostomus is distinguished by its terminal mouth, with gape being horizontal in the male, and acclivitous in the female, last unbranched dorsal ray smooth with upper 1/3 articulated; dorsal fin origin anterior to pelvic fin origin; no dark lateral band on sides of body; gill rakers 13-19; lateral line scales 24-29; longest caudal ray length about 2 times that of shortest. It is distributed in Longchuanjiang and Dayingjiang (upper Irrawaddy). Barbodes baoshanensis is distinguished by its smooth last unbranched dorsal ray with upper 1/3-1/2 articulated; dorsal fin origin anterior to pelvic fin origin; sides of body with a dark longitudinal band; gill rakers 13-14; lateral line scales 23-28. It occurs in Nujiang (upper Salween) and Longchuanjiang. A key to the species of Barbodes in Yunnan is provided.

We numerically investigate the main constrains for high efficiency wavelength conversion of differential phase-shift keying (DPSK) signals based on four-wave mixing (FWM) in highly nonlinear fiber (HNLF). Using multi-tone pump phase modulation techniques, high efficiency wavelength conversion of DPSK signals is achieved with the stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) effects effectively suppressed. Our analysis shows that there is a compromise between conversion efficiency and converted idler degradation. By optimizing the pump phase modulation configuration, the converted DPSK idler's degradation can be dramatically decreased through balancing SBS suppression and pump phase modulation degradation. Our simulation results also show that these multi-tone pump phase modulation techniques are more appropriate for the future high bit rate systems.

A theoretical study of the (p) over barp -> (p) over barn pi(+) reaction for antiproton beam energy from 1 to 4 GeV is made by including contributions from various known N* and Delta* resonances. It is found that for the beam energy around 1.5 GeV, the contribution of the Roper resonance N-(1440)* produced by the t-channel sigma exchange dominates over all other contributions. Since such a reaction can be studied in the forthcoming PANDA experiment at the GSI Facility of Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR), the reaction will be realistically the cleanest place for studying the properties of the Roper resonance and the best place for looking for other "missing" N* resonances with large coupling to N sigma.
